Serving a combination of Mexican-Mediterranean styled breakfast, lunch and dinner—Romesco is a culinary inspiration of Chef Javier Plasencia. Baja spices and ingredients dominate the menu at Romesco with the restaurant ladling a food concoction of hummus, tuna tapas, beef filet, beef cheek tacos, quesadillas, paella, pasta, chicken lemon and other primary native staples. The restaurant also primes an extensive selection of beverages which include beer, wine and champagne.
Comfortable chairs and tables center the dining area, while accommodating booths line the opposite extremities. The walls are heavily decorated with artwork and portraits, while inverted pendants and recessed lighting provides the right blend of illumination to add intimacy to the dining experience without hindering visibility. Romesco also features an outside seating area.
I felt that the food was very fresh and delicious. I would recommend trying the appetizers and then getting one entree. We shared three things and had the paella and honestly we were stuffed. We did save room for dessert but who doesn't.
Extensive menu of delightfully unique dishes (e.g., quail). Large wine list with great selection. Service is very attentive.
Been to the restaurant many times. But this last time the table we sat no air was vent ailing very hot. The waiter was bad , Gustavo was his name. We returned a table salad to much dressing and he still charged us for it. Our dinner was old and dry. Never again.
Food delicious! Great service! Really one if the best!
The meats are excellent.
Unique tapas dishes. Love the 1/2 price wine on Wednesdays.
Our group shared a number of tapas for our dinner. . All were delicious especially the Shrimp Tacos and the mushroom and cheese "Fonduta". I also had the Tamarindo Martini which I loved!!
Once again an exceptional meal at Romescos'. Service is always well done, with an attentive (but not hovering) staff, and a very dependable quality of meal. For me, there is no better rib eye dinner in south county. Well done, team!
Our dinner and dining experience was over-the-top amazing. What a little Jewel in the South Bay👑!
Excellent menu, attentive waiters, inviting décor. Good place to dine with friends and family who appreciate all of the above.
I took my mother here for her birthday with a small group of 4. It was the perfect setting and magnificent food. Had a great time and can't wait to return.
Pleasant outdoor seating. Nice environment. Interesting menu. Would return again if in the area.
Food is always delicious, impeccable service, perfect location since I live 6 mins away.
Delicious! Grandma's tacos were amazing, perfect short ribs, linguini, lemon chicken and alfredo...GREAT SERVICE! !! :) A+++
Waited long time for our food, one dish was sent back (too salty), it took forever to get a replacement dish, by the time the replacement dish arrived everybody was done. Bad service in general.
All around Great experience! I would recommend to friends & family!
Bon Appetit !!!!
I would have NEVER expected for this cozy restaurant to be inside of a strip mall. I met up with an old friend for dinner and we both loved the ambiance of the place. I would definitely recommend Romesco for a romantic dinner or a date night. The hostess greeted me right away and helped me to my table, as my friend was already there. The waiter also came by as soon as I sat down and took our drink order. We started off with the bubbly on the wine menu, and whatever they had for the night was very good. I usually like Prosecco, but was glad that I tried something new. (I wish that I could remember the name of what we had so that I could recommend it) The tapas were delicious! We had the gambas (shrimp) and the octopus. I highly recommend both. The sauce on the shrimp was SO good, I couldn't stop eating it. I eventually started dipping my octopus in it and my friend was doing the same with her bread. After that, we were brought our Cesar Salads, which I thought were very small. My friend and I split the paella. It is a good size for 2 people, especially if you are having appetizers. I thought it was tasty, but it was a little dry. My friend was not impressed with it and wished we would have ordered more of the shrimp tapas. We didn't have any room for dessert, but I would like to come back to try that, as well as one of their pasta dishes, as I've heard that they are very good.
We went for the paella and were definitely NOT disappointed! We told our waiter we also would like to sample some of the tapas, and he guided us well, including ahi tuna tacos, octopus tacos and other delicacies. The paella was a generous portion, so coupled with the tapas, we only ordered one entree and it was enough for two. Outdoor dining is "early parking lot ambience" but since we were from Phoenix area, we chose that to take advantage of the great weather.
One of my fave, if not, my fave restaurant in San Diego by faaaaaar! Cazuelita de gambas and greek salad are my go to plates!
I been there several times and the food flavor are not always the same. The tapas are great, but the main dishes are a guest, sometimes great, some other no so great (same dish).
Thank you, Romescos, for holding our table 45 minutes past our scheduled time!! The graduation ceremony plus traffic delayed our arrival. Quick service for ordering was appreciated. The variety of sauces and tastes in the appetizers and dinners were impressive. Only downside was when our server became busy with another large table, delaying our bill a LONG time.
It has been years since we last dined at Romesco's due to the slow service. This will probably be our last. The food was decent and the portions was good. Our waiter was very pleasant and nice but not very attentive. We had to ask for refills and wait a while for our bill when we had told hi
We were done. There were workers constantly moving through out but we had to wait for our waiter to ask for anything. The dish I ordered the Paella lacked flavor and the chicken was tough. My husband enjoyed his flanked steak and I would recommend this neighborhood restaurant for others to try but if they don't mind hanging around for awhile.
Service was friendly but very slow. We waited over 1 hour for our dinner, food was good, but overpriced for the quality. Ribbs were burned an hard on tips, lemon chicken was scarce compared to the meat. Crocketas were amazing though. No bread service, had to ask. Bar deals don't apply to table, which is sad because I feel we spent more money at the table.
We always enjoy our experience at Romesco's. Great food and service. Our 6 year old daughter loves their seafood pasta, my wife the Paella, and me the rib eye stake...and we all share the lava cake. Great place for a special occasion or just for a good night out.
Decided to go here again for Mother's Day...a mistake. I guess they wanted to serve as many people as possible, so they opened their Tapas bar for seating, where we were stuck. Much louder, like in a sports bar, with music videos blaring. No ambience whatsoever. Our request to lower the volume went unheeded. They were fast with the wine and order - taking, but then it take over an hour to get served. I realized it was a special day, but I believe they over taxed their kitchen out of greed by opening the extended seating area. The food tasted very good, which was the only bright spot. Wanted to talk to the manager, but none on premises. I suppose the manager knew what was coming and was smart not to be there. We will also be smart not to be there in the future.
Host/reception area is tiny. Reservation recommended. Great service. Great food. Ask for Miguel.
All around Romseco is the best! My favorite restaurant and we go often & have never been disappointed! We usually only order off he tapas menu so we can have lots of little things but the regular dinner menu is awesome as well! You can't go wrong at Romesco!
The food was amazing, and our server and all the workers were very nice and helpful. Definitely get the beef cheek tacos and the octopus.
I was really disappointed with the service. Not only were we seated next to a loud table of ten but the waiter never came back to check up on us until the bill was due. I have visited this restaurant before expecting a good experience. They were out of the margarita ingredients that I requested and the paella was dry.
Great dinner, main coarse was Ribeye Steak, extraordinary taste.
Tapas were good. Service was not good. Had to ask several times for refills on water. Waited several minutes before waiter returned to our table to check in. The "award winning" Paella was extremely dry and tastelesswhich is unfortunate because we really looked forward to it. The restaurant was extremely cold in the corner we sat in. They definitely did a better job with Bracero.
The food and service were excellent! Our server, Miguel was courteous, helpful and very attentive. Great find and we plan to go again!

Romesco's is in a strip mall in Bonita. The interior is reminiscent of a Barcelona tapas bar, and indeed it serves tapas among its various Mexican, Spanish, and Italian offerings. The Sangria was excellent. The paella was good. The short rib tacos were also good, but overpriced; same for the fried potato tacos. The service was good, and fun. A full up main dining room on a Tuesday at lunchtime. I would go again, but for the half-price-all-day tapas on Tuesdays.
Great food , however is the 2nd time on a row we experienced bad service.
As a lot of restaurants the food can be great but the service can make you think twice to return and take friend or recommended.
A competent restaurant, good menu, excellent service. Feels like being transported to a real city, or even to Europe. The grilled octopus starter is my favorite item on the menu. All the tapas are fun and tasty.
Excellent variety of notable Mexican dishes, attentive service, excellent cooking.
Food and service was great. Our server Gustavo, gave great recommendations and service.
We went with my family for my birthday and arrived early. We were very excited to try Chef Javier Plascencia's first SD restaurant Bracero. The server seemed to spend all his time with another table. We had to ask for water serveral times, walk over to the kitchen to ask for anything, and in general the service staff avoided eye contact. It was overall disappointing service wise. I tried to call the next day to speak to a manager and no one ever answered the phone. I left a message and no one called back. It looks like the Chef is of to the Little Italy location and the service at this site has gone bad.
