Rokerij Ratings and Reviews
The food is amazing. We've been coming here for over a decade. I first called and left a message and nobody returned my call so I booked our reservation online. This is the second time I have tried to book a table in the basement for an event. Both times when I arrived with my group they told me I was going to be sitting upstairs. I'm guessing this is a common issue that people believe when making the reservation they are going to be down stairs because the manager could have cared less that we were upset. I also received a text with the wrong time so I had to call and I verified again where we would be sitting with a live person. If only customer service were as good as the food this would be a 5 star review.
Food was fantastic...Service was terrible. They were slow and unresponsive, often leaving us with empty drinks for 20-30 minutes. Asked for sour cream when ordered, again when food was delivered, and again when the Manager came to our table to apologize for the long wait. Never did see that sour cream.
Food was good tho.
We’ve dined at The Rokerji numerous times over several years and have enjoyed our meals and experience. But something has gone off the rails. Our party of 4 would all endorse the New Mexico sausages as a starter, but then things started to go wrong. Both the trout entree and the swordfish were grilled to blackenedness, which was not as they should be. The cauliflower sides also were blackened. The Mahi got a pass, as did the pork adovada. Wine was good, although our first choice was unavailable. Service was spotty, to say the least. The noise level was way too high for such a small space. None of us was in a mood to return. Too many other choices where the fundamentals are more faithfully observed.
I took my significant other and his family to celebrate his birthday and we had a wonderful experience. Our waitress was exceptional and the food was delicious. I gave 4 stars on the food because we did have to send the chicken dish back (it was rubbery and impossible to chew), however, all of the other dishes were done to perfection and our waitress took care of the issue right away. So, I would still highly recommend the restaurant for a great dining experience!
Rokerji (Dutch for Steakhouse) has the largest and best selection of meat and fish dishes we have experienced in a very long time and we eat out several times a week. This time we introduced two couples to Rokerji and 1 is very picky. Each ordered something different and was very pleased with the portion, preparation and taste. The noise level was high. If you want a conversation eat in the Celler where the menu is the same but the space is pub like and quieter. One thing for sure, you will leave full and feeling good.
Rokerij has one of, if not the most, creative menu I've ever seen. This is primarily because there are three different restaurants in the same building, each with its own cuisine, and you can order from any of them from Rokerij. The basement seating is really cool...we loved it. Not a very large place, just cozy and something you wouldn't expect to find in Phoenix. The garlic appetizer is a "must-have" if you have at least 4 people...it's huge, but it's out of this world good. Truly outstanding. And the entrees are really cool -- wish I could have ordered a half dozen different ones. Those of us who had the duck were very happy with our meals; those who ordered the trout were disappointed that it was overdone (three in our group). Service was ridiculously good, too; our waiter had been there since the 70s and was very helpful when it came time to order. Great spot and highly recommended.
Great place to take family and friends that has never had New Mexican still foods..The enchiladas
are out of this world with the Christmas sauce with beans and rice and the Home of the Mexican Green chili potatoes stuffed in a Green Chili pepper is there trademark. Also the the Duck, chicken tostadas and the Carne Adovada a pork dish is right there with the Enchiladas.
The restaurant is as entertaining as the food is good. The decor is over the top, like you walked into an exotic inn somewhere in Asia maybe. The menu is huge and varied. You have to find something you want and the portions are more than generous. Two people could easily share most entrees. Rokerij is one of three names that share one building. Any of the three restaurants work. Same decor. Pretty much same menu
