Rojo Mexican Bistro - Novi is an unconventional Mexican Bistro serving you a dining experience in an upbeat, casual atmosphere. The most popular order at Rojo is its table side guacamole, custom-made to your preference. Of course you can order all your favorites like fajitas, quesadilla, tacos and burritos. However, it is highly recommended that you order the much sought after Chile Relleno, which is a roasted poblano pepper filled with melted cheese and topped with tomato sauce and even more cheese. You can add ground beef or BBQ pork for a nominal fee to kick it up a notch. Or try the Seafood Cazuela complete with calamari, shrimp, mussels, scallops and Mahi Mahi, all sautéed in a chile-infused lobster stock.
This is our 2nd time eating at this establishment. The food is delicious and the waitstaff is attentive. Only thing I would change is by them having a kids menu, separate from the adult menu. This would make kids feel welcome there.
Enjoyed great food, drink and service, while having a great time with my lovely wife.
Tried this place for the first time, will definitely be back. Excellent service, very attentive, and the food was very delicious.
The food was expensive and not as good as much cheaper Mexican restaurants. The refried beans felt like they came right out of the fridge without being heated, the rice was hard, and the frozen margarita was not blended enough to drink. We had no silverware or plates when we received our appetizer, and the waiter never waited around after delivering to see if we needed anything else. We were constantly having to call him back to the table.
We went to Rojo because my son likes it. It was okay, just okay. Food was good but not great. The service was good but not great. I'd go back but it wouldn't be my first choice.
My husband and I took my mom here for Valentine's Day . . . good food, good company and good price. We'll be back!
The service was perfect, the food was great, and so were the drinks. Good place to go if you need to get in and out in a hurry. The food came quickly and it was pretty busy for a Saturday night.
If tables are not available for same day then opentable/ Rojo should not accept reservations. We liked food and service was ok but had to wait 35 min even after we made reservations. Had a little one and she was cranky as it had passed her dinner time.
I tend to forget to review places I eat at often. This is a great place with very good food and service. Very consistent.
Old location was much better. Tables are smaller, closer together, restaurant is louder. Red pillars inside seem left over from Chinese restaurant. Food is good but atmosphere is lacking.
My wife and I have been to this restaurant several times, and always found it to be unique and enjoyable. This experience made us really sad the way the restaurant has gone downhill so quickly. The food, the service and the atmosphere have all deteriorated to the point that is was just a bad mexican chain place - no better than all the others. Too bad.
Great place for a Night out with friends!!
Service was bad, food mediocre, waiter finally brought our chips and salsa after our meals were served. Nachos were not good at all, hardly any cheese and my husband's burrito tasted like it was from yesterday. We will not be going back.
The menu choices were somewhat limited for a Mexican restaurant. The server was not very attentive.
Service was surprisingly slow as there were not a lot of people in the restaurant. But, the food was very good!!!
It had been a while since I had eaten at Rojo and I was not disappointed. The food was awesome and the service was great. We went at 7pm on a Friday and were there less than an hour. The enchilada and chimichanga were perfect. Will be back for sure.
Our second visit to Rojo and we were not disappointed. Our first venture here was on date night so this time we brought the kids and grandparents. The tableside guacamole was not as good as the first time we tried it - there was something missing, but it was still enjoyable. I was impressed that they were willing to substitute shredded beef for no extra charge on my Two Story tacos (would have been worth the upcharge). If you are bringing fussy teenagers be sure to have them review ingredients carefully. My son ordered the California Burrito without onions or pico de galo but forgot to subtract the black beans too. It's a good thing they were generous with the nachos otherwise he would have been a hungry boy. No criticism towards Rojo - the ingredients were clearly listed and I thought it looked pretty good.
Well-prepared Mexican-American dishes and appetizers, nicely presented, along with a wide range of cocktails, sangria and beers. Most popular are the special nights, such as Taco Tuesdays (which are busy) and Thursdays when appetizers and jumbo margaritas are $5. Service is generally friendly and prompt. Noise level is above average which can make it difficult to converse but adds to the fun and liveliness.
Our hotel staff recommended ROJO to us. Food was great! The tableside guacamole presentation was a favorite. Too bad the restaurant is 160 miles from our home.
We have been looking for food Mexican food since moving back to Michigan 5-years ago. Mexican Town is great but going downtown is a pain. Rojo was a very pleasant find ,- far surpassed the local offerings in Canton (definitely worth the drive to Novi).
the chicken and steak had little flavor did not care for there salsa either.
Apple Bee's taste a lot better,
The food was disappointing - very bland. Portions were good. Even the Table-side Guac was bland. They did not have any beer on draft. Apparently the restaurant is moving soon - maybe a new start.
Rojo in Novi remains one of my favorite restaurants in Metro Detroit. With reservations, I am always seated the moment I come in. The food and drinks are fantastic. We ordered Carne Asada and Chicken Fajitas this last time and they were not only perfectly done, but we had enough to bring home and eat it for lunch the next day. Table side guacamole is also a must. Service is wonderful. Highly recommended.
A step up from the typical neighborhood mexican restaurant. Got our food within 10 minutes of ordering despite it being a busy Friday night. The Cerveza Margarita was a nice drink. Wait staff was very attentive. If you're a Tequila drinker this is the place to go. Half of the drink menu is made up of different types of Tequila! Will definitely come back :)
A fun date night
There taco special can't be beat round up the friends and have a feast
The only major compliant is there was a horrible draft at our table. We had to keep our coats on the entire time. We mentioned it to our waiter but nothing was done to resolve it nor did he follow up as to what could have been the problem.
I think the experience of this restaurant depends on the dish you order. I read reviews before going , and after our group's experience I can guess that it depends on the entree ordered. I agree with other reviewers who say the mixed drinks are weak. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON MIXED DRINKS/MARGARITAS HERE! The chips were good, the salsa was fresh and the appetizer of table side guacamole was excellent. I was looking forward to my entree until it came. The re-fried beans were average, the rice was horrible, and my wet burrito was bland and disappointing. I would have rated this restaurant with 1 star had I not tasted my husbands dish.. I would have never guessed both came from the same restaurant, it was great. It's all in what you order.
Great selection on taco night will keep coming back beer specials too
My husband and I dined here the other night and loved it! The service was excellent! I enjoyed a unique cocktail called Agave Spice. Gold tequila, lime and chili infused agave in a martini glass. Spicy yum! The tableside guacamole was fabulous! My husband had some great fajitas and I had mussels that were in a delicious sauce. Will dine there again for sure.
Food was awesome! It was a great place to go for a Friday night dinner date.
I would recommend this as a date place, great tequila selection.
I had a wonderful and memorable evening dining at Rojo. The decor inside is beautiful and spacious, and yet still intimate enough to be relaxing and private. Our food came in large portions and tasted fabulous, and they made some of the best Margaritas I've ever had. They also have a very extensive Tequila selection, if that's your thing. The service was good and friendly, with a few touches of flare that made it feel even more fancy. I had a great time at Rojo, and I would recommend it.
Rojo just catapulted to the very top of my list of Mexian restaurants to go to. We arrived early afternoon and were immediately seated. We ordered the tableside Guac. as an appetizer and I must say, it was the best one I've had. Eveyone really liked their food, I had the Chimichanga and the outer wrap was light and flaky, not greasy at all. It was packed with meat, melted cheese, and all sorts of other flavors inside every bite. The Margaritas were great, and the price was even better. My friend ordered a shrimp dish in a red sauce. the flavor was exceptional and it was packed with so many large shrimp. Service was also great. Will definitely be making this my go-to place for Mexican food.
Not your usual mexican fare where everything tastes the same. 3 in our party ordered tableside guac, shrimp diablp tacos, scallop tacos, and enchilades verdes. All was good -- could have been hotter temperature-wise. The beans were almost cold. Food came out really fast after the guac made at the table. Margaritas were good too.
Food tasted great though and would go again.
Went to Rojo on a Saturday night. Our table was ready for us on time.
We enjoyed the table side guacamole very much . The salsa wasn't bad and they had hot sauces in two flavors to add to it which helped. The chips were somewhat fresh.
We live across the street from a popular Mexican restaurant and we drove 20 minutes to go to Rojo. It was worth it , we will return .
We went to Rojo's on a recommendation from a friend. We do not live close to the Novi location, but we decided to try anyway. I was kind of disappointed that the restaurant was kind of dirty and the booth that we were sat in, was ripped and taped up. I found the pricing a little high for Mexican, but figured if it was great food, well worth it. My husband asked the waiter about the fish (Mahi Mahi) tacos and they were recommended. When he brought them, you could smell the fishy smell right away. My husband could not eat them and sent them back. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which the chicken was in chunks, not shredded. And I thought a small portion for the price. I do not think we will be going back. Sticking to Mexican Village.
When we booked this restaurant, we were unaware that it is a franchise -- with a mission to sell their customers a membership. The waiters are trained to present the buy-in option to diners. We weren't interested so found it kind of annoying. Food was ok, and service was just ok too. I ordered a drink to be served with the meal. The beverage never appeared despite a reminder to our waiter and a request to other personnel. While we like the ambiance of this mall location, we are unlikely to return to Rojo.
Rojo has terrific food----great guacamole made table side. Service was very good.
Rojo is our go to Mexican food place. We've never had a bad meal and the prices are reasonable. Great margaritas as well!
