The Rogue has ambiance, selection and great food while maintaining a casual, approachable style with a Pacific North West vibe. We go to the Rogue semi-regularly with the Lobster Mac & Cheese and the Poke Bowl becoming favorites. For our last visit we tried the trio of dips for the first time. The bread with the dipping trio has a garlic finish and the sun dried tomato was smooth and lightly spicing without being overly oily. Great combination.
I've been here before and enjoyed the experience. Went on a Friday night it was incredibly noisy. Very dark inside. Tables were mashed too close together and food and service were just ok. Found the prices quite high for the portion size and what it was. Very disappointing drink specials. Expensive, small, no beer list, no blended drinks available.
Unfortunately, we had horrendous service while there celebrating a friends 40th birthday. Our server did not come to our table unless I called her over. Drinks were painfully slow, and after being at the table for an hour, we still were waiting to order a second drink. I called her over to order appies and after talking over empty plates for 45 minutes, I had to call her over again for more drinks and to ask if we could now order dinner. It was frustrating. Although the restaurant wasn't overly busy, she seemed to be struggling to keep up and only once someone in our group asked for a manager did things improve. Our friend spoke to a manager and expressed how poor our service had been in the past 1.5 hours and asked the manager to give our server some support and help her out. Our service was then drastically improved but we had also already ordered by this point. We made it clear we were celebrating a birthday and with all our waiting on drinks and food, we all know a "free" drink or comping some appies or something! help to smooth things over, but nothing was given or offered. We enjoyed our night, the ambiance is lovely but doubt we will be back.
This was my third visit to Rogue, mostly due to convenience. Although the locations are often handy every experience to date has resulted in very poor service, mediocre "bar" food and really crappy wine. In downtown Vancouver there are so many choices for quality meals, spend an extra 5 minutes when planning your next OpenTable booking and take a pass on Rogue. I suspect that tourists are keeping these folks afloat because they simple don't know that there's much better.
This location is close to work. It's a bustling place being located within Waterfront station. Once inside noise level was fine. Tables and chars are a snug fit. Overall the food was good, ambience is much nicer compared to others within proximity, and service was good. We typically go here for business meals.
Food was excellent, and well seasoned. Had the taco combo with seafood chowder and caesar salad. The caesar salad was delicious, and the croutons were sweet. Seafood chowder had a hefty portion of seafood and was very creamy.
However, service was a bit rushed and lacking. My reservation was for 4 people at 1:30, and upon arriving at 1:34pm, the hostess saw me and greeted two people and brought them to the seats first , but then never came back to the front. In fact, we waited an additional 10 minutes before a manager saw us, and brought us in. The manager while frazzled was quite gracious and her service was commendable given the situation.
I'm chalking it up to an off day for service as I have been to Rogue before and know that it's not usually like this.
I requested a table by the window but I got no window and the table was by the wall. The restaurant was not cozy. The food was not good and my Mojito cocktail was not good at all. I had similar salad and cocktails at other restaurants and it was way better. The sun kept coming into our eyes so we had to ask waitress to put the curtains on. This restaurant just did not do it for me and I expected way more.
Stairway to washrooms VERY dark also the ladies washroom stall also VERY DARK!!
Needs more/better lighting. The person I was with has macular degeneration (eyes)and I had to help her down the stairs so she did not fall......... very bad for elderly and there were some in the restaurant at lunch when were were there.
This place is garbage. Every single time I come here I'm reminded of how terrible the service is. The location is great, which is the only thing that keeps me coming back as my North Van friends can just hop on the seabus and I live nearby.
The service is so alarmingly poor. Every single time I've been here I've waited for 30+ minutes for my bill, actively looking around for my server, only to find the server behind the bar either on their phone or chatting with other staff. The fact that Rogue created an app to help you pay via mobile is a joke. I was here earlier this week and my group had empty drinks for a solid 45 minutes, when we wanted refills, but no server to be found.
The service standards are the worst out of any corporate restaurant like this. Not only are the servers not attentive, they're clearly untrained (not their fault) and each time I've been here, they've been unable to answer basic questions about the menu.
The food is overpriced for the quality. A small salad with no protein is $16.99? You can't have Cactus Club pricing if your service resembles that of a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant in Richmond.
I worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade and usually keep to myself these kinds of reviews as I know they may have a huge impact on the business, but since this place is corporate, I felt the need to share my experience.
Been to Rogue Gastown several times. Always great...except this time, apparently the menu had changed (either 'yesterday' or 'two weeks ago' depending on who was telling the story) but we still had the 'old' menu. If a menu is being changed, the actual menu that one orders from should be change on the same day/date to avoid disappointment. Who knows what was on the 'new' menu that we did not have the opportunity to order? Unfortunately, it was our servers first day, so she was equally disadvantaged. We will return because the food is always well prepared & the atmosphere is always good, but they definitely could manage change much better.
Restaurant was great, food was ok. We had eaten before at Broadway location. Food had been much better. Husband ate a short rib sandwich. Fries were ice cold. We sent fries back to be replaced only by then it's and pieces at bottom of fryer. Bottom sandwich bun was soaked through and mushy. Probably stood too long waiting for my sandwich to follow.
Mine was good (beer can chicken), much better then expected. Would order it again.
We'll go back to the Broadway location for sure. Undecided about downtown location for now as there is a lot of competition out there is no real desire to go through that kind of food again.
I eat here often with clients. It's usually great in all fronts. We always book for 11:45 so we can order early. Today, Server brought water and then seemed to forget about us; we didn't order till about 12:15 by which time other people who arrived after us were already receiving their meals. I felt like we were on the other end of the ball being dropped.
Didn't think too much of this restaurant as it is situated at a skytrain station but give it a try on Valentines Day and oh my, phenomenal selection of GOOD food. I'm a massive foodie from Melbourne and I haven't had such a good produce and taste in Vancouver for a while!
Came here for the first time for Valentine's Day dinner with my boyfriend. First impression, hostess was friendly and perfect. She Gave us a booth beside the window. The decor and ambiance in the restaurant gave quite a romantic feeling for the night. Started off with the sangria fishbowl to drink, thought it was unique and tasty. For appetizers, my boyfriend had the chowder which was quite small. And we also ordered yam fries which were delicious and calamari that had too much pepper on it. For entrees, he had the lobster Mac and cheese. It was alright but didn't scream flavour. And I had the Bang Bang Chicken and Prawns, which was good but still bland on the flavour side. Afterwards, we got complementary dessert for Valentine's Day which were 2 cookies and 2 strawberry dipped with chocolate, both were delicious. Our server was good and attentive when we needed him, but never really made conversation or checked up on us in between meals. Also to add, one girl not quite sure if she was another hostess or busser, but every time she would bus a table, her skirt was so short to a point where her butt checks are hanging out. Not professional one bit. This is a place where I feel would be great for drinks and appetizers, but not for a romantic date night.
We love that this Rogue location is open on Sunday's. Perfect to take the kids on the way to Movie Theatre. Would be great if had more kids menu options. Only offer chicken fingers and pizza. My daughter has ordered the chicken fingers twice and too spicy for her both times. Would be great to add a smaller cheeseburger at an affordable price and seed-free bun. We would eat there way more often. My older son loves the bacon cheeseburger. Expensive but great size. Rest of us have enjoyed our food and drinks each time. The restaurant was slow since New Years Day but great service.
My co-workers and I were there to celebrate their birthdays. Before we sat down, I already informed our waitress secretly that we brought our own birthday cake and the hostess has already put it in the kitchen. Our waitress said she understood and will prepare the cake near the end of our meal. Throughout our meal, everything went well. I didn't feel like an entree in the beginning so I didn't order one. However, after I had my appetizer, I changed my mind and ordered an entree from my waitress. She confirmed she got the order, but my food never came. After my co-workers finished their meal, our waitress showed up and told me, "Oops! Sorry, I forgot to put in your order." Since all the other people at the table had finished their meal, I told her to forget it. Then she asked us, "Do you guys want some desserts?" The moment I heard that sentence I was surprised because I told her in the beginning that we brought a cake, and it's at the back kitchen. I had to tell her very loudly that, "WE HAVE A CAKE!!!" Then she finally got it. I still ended up giving her 18% tips but I can see that she's not really into her job. If you are a caring waitress, you would never have done this. Too busy is not the reason since we are all busy. I would not go to this location again as I specifically informed them it's a birthday event and they treated our event like it's nothing special. It ruined my original reputation with Rogue.
