I have never been asked so many times if everything was OK… It was really annoying… The wait staff kept trying to clear our plates before we were done eating… They seemed to be in such a rush!… We were barely done and they were pushing dessert menus on us… We were trying to have a relaxing dinner but it was continually interrupted obnoxiously… And they just wouldn’t take the hint
Environment is nice - could use a bit of updating. Steak prices are a little high for its environment. Service was good. Choice of food was good.
Everything was as expected for a high caliber place such as this, with one exception: We ordered the filets, which were stringy and chewy. I left half of mine on the plate.
The only disappointing thing was the length of the lines for Sunday Brunch. But for that ,it would have been a very good experience. Standing on line for an inordinately long period of time put a damper on things.
We ate in the Oceanic Railroad car at Rod’s. The ambiance is wonderful! I felt like I’d been thrown back in time to the early 1900’s. The car was beautifully restored with attention to detail, and it is well maintained. The food was delicious! I had the salmon. It was moist; not dry at all. I have celiac and the chef accommodated my needs well.
I highly recommend Rod’s and requesting that you eat in one of the two railroad cars.
We went for dinner with old friends. The restaurant was nice but a little dated. The service was excellent and the food was delicious so we were off to a great start. Then at 10 pm, the live music from below was so loud that we couldn't hear each other and chose to leave. Not what I'm used to at a nice steakhouse. I'll try other places before going back.
First time but won't be my last. The NY Strip (my go to steak) is one of the best.
Rod's consistently delivers excellent food. Great steaks and appetizers are the rule. However, I have two concerns. 1) The service: The service is usually quite good, but this was not the case at our most recent visit. We were at an early seating; it was not crowded and yet the service was incredibly slow. We had difficulty getting our waiter's attention. We stacked our own dishes to finally get someone to clear the table. 2) Special requests: In the past, Rod's has provided a small cake for special occasions. However, the last two times I booked a reservation through Open Table for a special occasion this did not happen. I completed the "special requests box" on the Open Table website and asked for the small cake. Both times, no cake was provided and no mention of the request was made. Why bother to have a "special requests box" if it is being routinely ignored? If you have a special request, call the restaurant directly.
Graduation lunch. I waited 3 years to have a great meal at Rod’s and it was just OK. The services as very slow, even though most tables were empty. The food was overpriced and OK, but not fantastic. I was not delighted.
We had a great anniversary celebration. The staff did a great job making the day special. Great food, interesting place, and super service. A different keeper.
Rods: Thank you very much; will see you again soon.
Our drinks sat empty all night while the other tables around us with larger parties were taken care of. The service was terrible and for the price you pay for the food I expected better.
It was a good evening but we felt rushed through our meal. The crab bisque was delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly.
The brunch is always fabulous
It was amazing, as always. Never had a bad experience. Highly recommend.
My wife and I really enjoyed our anniversary. It made for a special and very memorable evening. Thank you.
Second time eating there. Excellent food, cocktails, service, ambience. Classic dark wood and English gentry décor. Our waiter Carlos was great, as were his assistants.
The steaks (cooked perfectly), the oysters, the calamari, the salmon, the tuna sushi appetizer, the banana flambe dessert, even the coffee were just great. Could not be happier. Expensive but well worth it.
My biggest complaint is that I overate, because everything was just soooo good. And I have no one to blame for overeating but myself!
Wonderful ambiance, good food and exceptional service. We'll be back for sure.
Wonderful! Everyone should visit this restaurant.
checking off a bucket list item.
Felt rushed, it would have been nice to have time between courses.
Excellent service, but expensive restaurant. Excellent meat, poor risoto
Its the first time I was there and the experience was wonderful -- I was just a little displeased with the table we had it was a very small cramped booth but other than the food was delicious and our server left a little to be desired but all in all it was a great experience.
Solid old school steak house. Great steak grilled perfectly. Great service and cool setting and fun train car to dine in.
Rod’s never disappoints. Love Sunday Brunch. Wonderful assortment of food in a pleasant atmosphere. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive.
Great restaurant. The live band was awesome. Drinks were good. Prices are typical of a steakhouse.
The filets mignon were very tender and tasty although slightly over done for our taste ( asked for medium-rare but got more medium). Friday night was packed with folk enjoying the end of the week so a little loud.
We frequent Rod's quite often. In fact, my 'man' and I met at the bar at Rod's in January of 2013 and now live together and are going stronger than ever. Great place for food, fun, music, and ambiance. It's great for the bar scene as well as a very important date or event. I think I was at Rod's 3 times so far this month for meals. Love it.
Service was terrible. It was a large party so 20% gratuity was included. The server obviously knew that going in and barely was present throughout our 3.5 hour evening. Place is beautiful and special looking. The food is perfectly ok. The service was terrible especially for a $1k meal.
It was my boyfriends birthday. We always have a great time dining at Rod’s. Food is alway great service is exceptional. Our waitress Stephanie was amazing.
Excellent food, service, ambience!!!
We have been to Rod’s 3 times in the past 6 months. We have enjoyed each visit. The staff is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is lovely, we enjoy the music. The food is delicious, we have enjoyed everything we ordered. We expect to come back again even though we are moving out of the area.
Best steakhouse in the tri-state area!
Great place for a celebration!
I grew up nearby and remember dining in the authentic antique railway dining cars on special family occasions.
I wondered if all these years later it would be as special- the great news is that it is as special- if it not more so!
The food was delicious, the service perfect and the atmosphere was amazing.
Great to know that some things never change - although in this case, it changed for the better!
Thank you for a great dinner!
Traveling alone is no fun. Searching out great local fare makes it almost worth the drudgery. This place is wonderful. The decor is fabulously old school. Stained glass from Pittsburgh and a one ton chandelier make the main dining room a destination. The food was just as good. Had the NY Strip and it was cooked perfectly. Might go medium rare next time because most undercook, not here. The staff was great. From Rachel who seated me to David, Ceasar and Juan Carlos who teamed up at the table, the service was great. Sean the manager stopped by as he moved table to table and had a nice long conversation about the history of the place. This is the kind of place that I look for and you should as well.
I'm very disappointed. Another steakhouse that can't actually cook steak. Meat was bland & All of our meats were seriously under or dry & over cooked. Other parties that were seated after us were served bread & their service staff was on point with everything. We received none of that. Received sides @ different times than meals served. The manager came over to our table a few times before our food came in our long wait (about 45 minutes wait from apps to entrees) & saw how bad our meals were cooked after they arrived. He comped our food & offered his card for the next time we visit. However, for me, if you can't cook our meal correct on our first time visiting, the service was just short of horrible & the food that WAS edible was bland & had no love added to it. I'll pass on the revisit. Pretty place though.
The experience was nothing but top-notch. They even read the reservation and brought a cake for my boyfriend’s birthday.
I thought for a lunch with my brother and sister in law, it was pricey, especially given we had sandwiches
Overall it was a sub-par experience. My boyfriend ordered the Porterhouse, and I ordered the 9 oz filet. Both were bad cuts, mine was clearly an end cut as there were 3 sections connected by fat instead of one piece and his was so fatty it was hard to cut around. Both of us have ordered these cuts before and knew what we were supposed to getting. The appetizer should have been called an amuse-bouche it was so small. Our waiter was attentive, however we had to ask for water 3 times (we were one of only 2 tables in the restaurant). There was a gentleman planning the piano in the bar which was very nice however a couple of women decided they wanted to join in and sing karaoke at the top of their lungs. While this is not necessarily the restaurants fault they also did nothing to stop it. We know that Rod's is reputable steak house and were excited for our dinner. However we ended up leaving very disappointed and unfortunately will not be returning.
Food was so-so.
Lobster mac and cheese had lobster that was too chewy.
My burger was rather thin, dry and non substantial. Calamari was good.
It was nice from a social perspective, but the meals , 9 of them, were a disappointment.
Came here with my friend to celebrate her bday. What a great choice. From food to service everything was amazing. They knew it was a birthday celebration and the manager Sean came out and personally wished her a happy bday. What a special way to treat your guest. Defiantly coming back soon.
