We come here fairly often. Steaks are consistently good. This time I had the crab and shrimp cocktail. A little disappointing as the shrimp was over cooked and cut in half and one shrimp I had to spit out as it tasted bad. Martinis could have been colder but all in all my husband enjoyed it for fathers day which was great.
Warn welcome, seated immediately, and attentive service - we really enjoyed our Father’s Day brunch which had a very nice selection of entrees and desserts.
Been to Rod's for the Sunday brunch a few times over the last couple of years usually on holidays. Went for Father's day this time which was the standard buffet. On other holidays like Mother's day it is the same buffet but the price jumps from about $29 pp to $59 pp. We had a 10:15am seating and were seated upstairs which was very pretty but really inconvenient when food service is a buffet. The food is generally good and there is a large selection of lunch dishes, salads, cheeses, meats, desserts...etc but very limited on breakfast items which at 10:15 in the morning is what we are there for. Only egg item available for self service was eggs benedict which was empty when we arrived. Once the tray was refilled we found that the english muffins were not toasted. The kitchen must have rushed to get the refill out to the dining room. Any other egg dish like scrambled eggs you had to wait in line at the omelette station. Most buffets will have scrambled eggs as a self serve item along with some kind of quiche or egg souffle. They had the standard bacon and sausage tray and some breakfast potatoes. No pancakes or waffles but I did find some mini waffles in a dish between the 2 man omelette station. Not the best location. The downstairs was mostly empty when we arrived and never filled up the whole time we were there so not sure why we were placed upstairs. Only a handful of tables were in use up there and there were plenty of servers standing around but none were attentive. We had to constantly waved them over to refill water, coffee, OJ...etc and to remove empty dishes. The coffee was terrible. Took forever to get the check. The last time we ate at Rod's we decided we were done with them but we gave them one more try. Sorry to say we won't be going back.
Steak and salmon were not the best we’ve ever had, given the prices we expected more. Service was attentive and kind. They also brought a small cake for my mother’s birthday. She was thrilled with that.
Seven of us for a lunch to break up the day and get our minds off work. Very comfortable and an excellent menu. Service was very good - attentive without hovering.
We were seated immediately. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. The food was great, service was as expected. The pace was perfect for a Tuesday night. It's a great place when you want to do something special.
We had a friend get together. The staff worked with our group for a nice table and the food was excellent
Went for prefixed early dinner. Very disappointed salmon with mustard sauce. We were looking forward to carmalized onions on salmon which we had in the past.
It was a great dinner appreciated by my client. Will be back again.
Was great. Would be a nice addition to have clams, oysters and mussels.
All great. The Keller family are great hosts The service and steaks are the best in Morris county
One of my favorite restaurant. Had escargot as an appetizer and it was delicious. My friend and I had each 2 lbs lobster and was just done right, moist and sweet. For dessert- for a change I had sorbet and wow-the most delicious, creamy sorbet i’ve ever had and as a matter of fact the best I’ve ever tasted. Babette was our waitress and was very attentive. Thank you.
I have never been asked so many times if everything was OK… It was really annoying… The wait staff kept trying to clear our plates before we were done eating… They seemed to be in such a rush!… We were barely done and they were pushing dessert menus on us… We were trying to have a relaxing dinner but it was continually interrupted obnoxiously… And they just wouldn’t take the hint
Environment is nice - could use a bit of updating. Steak prices are a little high for its environment. Service was good. Choice of food was good.
The staff was perfect and the food was fantastic!
Everything was as expected for a high caliber place such as this, with one exception: We ordered the filets, which were stringy and chewy. I left half of mine on the plate.
The only disappointing thing was the length of the lines for Sunday Brunch. But for that ,it would have been a very good experience. Standing on line for an inordinately long period of time put a damper on things.
We ate in the Oceanic Railroad car at Rod’s. The ambiance is wonderful! I felt like I’d been thrown back in time to the early 1900’s. The car was beautifully restored with attention to detail, and it is well maintained. The food was delicious! I had the salmon. It was moist; not dry at all. I have celiac and the chef accommodated my needs well.
I highly recommend Rod’s and requesting that you eat in one of the two railroad cars.
We went for dinner with old friends. The restaurant was nice but a little dated. The service was excellent and the food was delicious so we were off to a great start. Then at 10 pm, the live music from below was so loud that we couldn't hear each other and chose to leave. Not what I'm used to at a nice steakhouse. I'll try other places before going back.
First time but won't be my last. The NY Strip (my go to steak) is one of the best.
Rod's consistently delivers excellent food. Great steaks and appetizers are the rule. However, I have two concerns. 1) The service: The service is usually quite good, but this was not the case at our most recent visit. We were at an early seating; it was not crowded and yet the service was incredibly slow. We had difficulty getting our waiter's attention. We stacked our own dishes to finally get someone to clear the table. 2) Special requests: In the past, Rod's has provided a small cake for special occasions. However, the last two times I booked a reservation through Open Table for a special occasion this did not happen. I completed the "special requests box" on the Open Table website and asked for the small cake. Both times, no cake was provided and no mention of the request was made. Why bother to have a "special requests box" if it is being routinely ignored? If you have a special request, call the restaurant directly.
Graduation lunch. I waited 3 years to have a great meal at Rod’s and it was just OK. The services as very slow, even though most tables were empty. The food was overpriced and OK, but not fantastic. I was not delighted.
We had a great anniversary celebration. The staff did a great job making the day special. Great food, interesting place, and super service. A different keeper.
Rods: Thank you very much; will see you again soon.
It was a good evening but we felt rushed through our meal. The crab bisque was delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly.
Our drinks sat empty all night while the other tables around us with larger parties were taken care of. The service was terrible and for the price you pay for the food I expected better.
The brunch is always fabulous
It was amazing, as always. Never had a bad experience. Highly recommend.
My wife and I really enjoyed our anniversary. It made for a special and very memorable evening. Thank you.
Second time eating there. Excellent food, cocktails, service, ambience. Classic dark wood and English gentry décor. Our waiter Carlos was great, as were his assistants.
The steaks (cooked perfectly), the oysters, the calamari, the salmon, the tuna sushi appetizer, the banana flambe dessert, even the coffee were just great. Could not be happier. Expensive but well worth it.
My biggest complaint is that I overate, because everything was just soooo good. And I have no one to blame for overeating but myself!
Wonderful ambiance, good food and exceptional service. We'll be back for sure.
Wonderful! Everyone should visit this restaurant.
Felt rushed, it would have been nice to have time between courses.
checking off a bucket list item.
Excellent service, but expensive restaurant. Excellent meat, poor risoto
Its the first time I was there and the experience was wonderful -- I was just a little displeased with the table we had it was a very small cramped booth but other than the food was delicious and our server left a little to be desired but all in all it was a great experience.
Solid old school steak house. Great steak grilled perfectly. Great service and cool setting and fun train car to dine in.
Rod’s never disappoints. Love Sunday Brunch. Wonderful assortment of food in a pleasant atmosphere. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive.
Great restaurant. The live band was awesome. Drinks were good. Prices are typical of a steakhouse.
The filets mignon were very tender and tasty although slightly over done for our taste ( asked for medium-rare but got more medium). Friday night was packed with folk enjoying the end of the week so a little loud.
