Rod’s is my favorite steakhouse! The food is so delicious and the atmosphere is really nice.
Enjoyed the evening with friends. Meal was tasty. Didn't cook my filet to how I had ordered it, luckily my husband had the same and we could switch. Ambiance and bar were good.
First time experience was outstanding . Our server David was outstanding and very professional. Shaun the manager came over and checked on us , which was nice as well. The food was excellent. Overall great experience
The steak was outstanding...best in NJ. Unfortunately, the appetizers (shrimp cocktail and salad) were not up to par. Nice wine selection...good atmosphere for a business dinner.
Wait staff was slow and inattentive. No bread, only butter. Bar request was at the beginning of the meal and at the end only. Water was plentiful! Food was so-so. For the price, one would expect excellent service and great food. Disappointed.
Overall the Brunch Buffet is very inviting. The only problem I encountered was the hot entrées were empty when I went to sample i.e. chicken, beef, salmon and eggplant rotini. It was only 1:00 so the chafes should have been filled. I ordered S. Pelligreno which was an overpriced mistake. All in all we enjoyed ourselves celebrating a Birthday. PS there was a small problem with the maitre d unfamiliar with Open Table Reservations system. It was embarrassing as he was looking all over for our reservation. Therefore Open Table didn't think we fulfill our reservation and let us know it too.
The food was excellent and our waitress was very helpful.
The Chateaubriand was divinely tender and prepared tableside. The wine selection was superb. Thank you for an excellent dining experience.
Had not been here for a few years but the return was excellent. Fireplace in lobby was welcoming and room was excellent. Steak dinner was worth the drive and Sean at the bar was great
My friend and I celebrate our birthdays, visiting Rod’s twice a year. We’ve been doing it for over 30 years and it never disappoints!
Service was terrible the wait staff were all over worked.
Rods is an old school classic steak house. Food is great, bar is well tended. Expensive and a nice treat. Band in the bar is a nice treat
We always have a great . Never a bad experience. Love this place.
Noise in bar area impacts dining above.
We have been going to Rod's for (gulp) 40 years. It never disappoints. Not every day but for special occasions- so we feel it's the "go-to" place when you want great atmosphere, being treated to very good service and outstanding food.
Outstanding! We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and were greeted upon arrival. The food was perfect and then we were surprised with an anniversary cake. Sean the manager also gave us a personal tour of the train cars. Great experience! Will definitely go back.
Great dinner. Still thinking about that cheesecake. Outstanding!
We always enjoy Rod’s great service, lovely ambiance and delicious food.
Had a great Sunday brunch with a friend celebrating her birthday. The 1 problem was getting the waiter to bring coffee. He seemed to spend his time catering to a party of 8 seated right next to us and would then walk away.
I have been there before and this place is one of my favorite restaurant to go to. The ambience is beautiful. I had the escargot for the appetizer and my oh my-delectable. then for my entree I had ordered their aged petite filet mignon and the portion is just perfect for me... it was tender and moist. I would go back there again but this time, I want to try the train dining area. I would recommend this place to my friend.
Love to celebrate birthdays at Rod's! Food never disappoints.
Great romantic place for a date. Best steaks I have had in along time . Friendly staff and manager. Decor is really unique .We will be back .
Great brunch - great food and great service. Everything was fresh and the buffet was beautiful.
We were taking friends out for a birthday dinner, and our service and 2 of our dishes were not good. We ordered a cocktail at the beginning of our meal, and wanted to order wine with dinner. We were still finishing our appetizers and our meals were coming out without being offered the wine list and were still working on our salads. Our meals went back to the kitchen, while we ordered our wine, 25 minutes later, after obviously sitting under a heat lamp our meals were brought back. My swordfish was dry and just warm in the middle and my husbands steak over cooked. Not what you would expect for a $360 meal.
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Rod’s and had a great time.
The place is amazing, my wife and I took a quick little tour to look at the antiques. Food was very good and our waitress Maria was very kind and helpful.
We’ll definitely be back!
Our son’s birthday, and the arrival of our Grandson. It was wonderful, it always is.
Service was excellent and staff was friendly and accommodating
The price fix menu was a real deal so we took advantage of this.
Celebrated an anniversary in the train cars! Such a wonderful intimate setting and highly recommend it. Food and service are always wonderful.
Rod's is a great place to eat. I found it by accident a few years ago, and make it a point to visit each time that I am in the area.
I have never had a bad or even a "that was OK" meal there. Every time the feeling was OH MY, that was AWESOME!! The steaks, the appetizers, the sides, etc.... all are fantastic.
I took a group of six people here for a special occasion last weekend. I live in NC now and was in NJ visiting old friends. I grew up going to Rod's and it was my father's favorite restaurant. We were seated in the train car and overall our experience was good. I was very excited to take one friend from NC to Rod's who was in our group... to show her my hometown. Her meal could not have been worse. She ordered a steak medium and it was absolutely raw in the middle. We had to send it back twice to get it right and we were all finished with dinner by the time she got hers. The management made no adjustment to my $400 bill and overall we went away disappointed. There is no excuse for a steak house like Rod's to mess up on how a steak is cooked. Otherwise, we had a nice evening but we were so disappointed that it was not the perfect evening we anticipated.
I made reservations for 3 for my aunt's birthday. We were seated right away at a cozy banquette style booth. We were given a bread basket with walnut bread, baguette, and crackers while we looked at the menu. This is a steak house so all steaks are served without side dishes and those are a la carte in portions for more than 1 person. Despite several large groups (two tables that each had 16 people), our food was delivered in a timely manner, and the service was good. I had mentioned that it was my aunt's birthday. The server brought us a little cake with candles for dessert (I'm not sure if I was charged for this because I forgot to check the bill at the time). Everything was lovely. It was a special dinner for a special occasion. The check for 3 was just over $160 before tip, so this is definitely more of a special occasion place in my opinion. There is a pub there that I haven't tried yet, but I would probably try that next time.
Service was really kind and friendly. The food was delicious - our steaks were prepared as requested and portions were quite large for all the entrees and the sides.
Rod's is, and has been a family favorite for generations. It's dependable for great steak and the service is always good too. Our last visit was no exception, many in the party had their favorite crab bisque. I went with some oysters and clams. Everything was delicious and I also got a bonus clam. ;-) Dinners were three petit filet and I had the lamb rack. Once again, everything was cooked to perfection. Some mushrooms, crispy shallot mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus completed the entree. Again, all delicious. Louis did a great job of making sure all of our needs were met. Desserts were varied from pear spice cake, creme brulee, cheesecake and berries with zabaglione. Again, everyone loved their choice, and Rod's once again proved while it's worth the drive from Summit to get a great meal that's a better value than Roots'.
My filet, ordered medium rare, was overcooked. My dining companion’s filet was cooked unevenly - one end was medium, the other side rare. if there is one thing a steakhouse should do properly, it’s cook its meats correctly
We celebrated our son's birthday with a family brunch. Besides being delicious, the vast variety of dishes offered catered to all our family members. My son is vegetarian and my grandson is only 18 months old and we all enjoyed the meals and desserts. My grandson joyfully listen to the pianist play. Great place.
Fabulous attentive service and great food. Peter Keller s a wonderful host.
We went for New Years Eve. Food was excellent. Service was on point. Table was awesome. We were a party of 6 and everyone was 100% satisfied. Well done !! Thanks for a great night
Still the employees favorite for our Christmas party (I let then pick the venue). The service was a bit slower than normal this time, but everyone understands during holiday season. A great experience yet again. Highly recommended...again!
