Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille Ratings and Reviews
Went here with my husband, brother, and sister-in-law for my brother's birthday. What a disappointment! The service was a complete disaster. Our waiter managed to be intrusive and ineffectual at the same time. He forgot dishes with every course and/or brought the wrong thing. He repeatedly spilled wine all over my sister-in-law. My brother actually thought the guy might be drunk or high. The food was fine, but nothing special. Not worth the price at all. Am shocked this is considered a top place in that area. Avoid.
Kitchen has a problem over cooking food last two visits. Baked potato was cold. Management very responsive to problems and gracious. Manager offered a complimentary glass of wine while waiting. The people are so nice at rods. Waiter duo system doesn’t seem to be working last two visits either. They each think the other guy is taking care of the table. But I love rods and will be back soon. Btw second go around on filet was perfection. Music was sweet as usual.
Our waitress and her associates were excellent. she knew just when to bring in my husband's birthday cake without me asking. She was also VERY patient with one of the guests special food needs which we all appreciated. It was a great venue for my husband's 70th birthday. Thank you
My wife and I each ordered a steak and side. Steaks were good, though they had much more fat than similar steaks that we have eaten in NYC. Sides we good. Service was wanting. Water glasses were left empty for extended periods of time. Had to ask for the check, then wait for a while to get it.
At NYC steakhouse prices, I expect the same qualite food and service.
Great steaks, and good selection of spirits and wines. The big disappointment, and rather appalling, was the dessert.
Our group asked whether chocolate cake was available. Waiter replied yes, and even stated they could warm our slices. The three slices of ‘cake’ we received was not what we expected. Instead of a warm chocolate cake, we were served three chilled cream filled Tastykakes. Very similar to the hostess hohos but only bigger. And certainly much more pricier! No integrity.
I think Rod’s is way better than Roots (I’ve been to both multiple times). This was the first time that I brought the entire family to Rod’s.
The food and service were excellent! The waitstaff were very attentive and courteous. The calamari appetizer was huge and delicious as was the crab cake. My wife and son enjoyed the poached peach salad and beet salad. The Berlinger’s cabernet wine, while being the least expensive bet the glass was very enjoyable. My wife and I each had the Filet mignon which were perfectly done as was the Prime Rib that one of my son’s had (Rod’s cut was also huge). My other son enjoyed the braised short ribs special.
Our only disappointment food wise was with the desserts. The selections were uninteresting. My wife and I shared the pumpkin cheesecake which was dry and lacked flavor. The noise level was a little high, but we understand that’s hard to control especially with live music.
We will definitely be going back again.
It has been a few years since dining at Rods restaurant versus the Red Dog pub. we dined in the elegant upstairs area overlooking the bar, there was a high degree of noise from below. Conversation among our party of 4 was difficult. Service was very spotty, felt abandoned at times. Prime rib and scallop menu items were ordered but found to be sold out ... at 7pm. Entree's we ended up ordering were very good. The pub is a better value for the money.
The ambiance and energy of this place keep us coming back. The steaks (and pork chop) are excellent, the service friendly and selection accommodating to different palates. We celebrated a birthday here and the cake they delivered was delightful. Only issue we had is they featured a 2014 vintage wine (with a very high published Wine Spectator rating on the menu) and served us the 2015 bottle instead. When we asked for the one featured on the menu, we were told they didn't have any more, but different offer it for an adjusted price. Keep an eye on the drink menu to make sure you get what you ask for. This place also has two great bar areas with live music - truly enjoyed the experience overall and will definitely return.
Great experience! We are getting married at The Madison in 6 weeks and went to dinner at Rod’s for our dating anniversary. The food was so good I’m confident it’s going to be outstanding at the wedding too. They accommodated us in the train car and it was nice and quiet. It can get a bit chilly back there. We had calamari and ceasar salad to start. A Delmonico steak, lobster Mac and cheese with huge lobster chunks and the scallops. Everything was excellent and huge portions! They even surprised us with a small anniversary cake! It was very sweet and I can’t wait to keep coming back each year to celebrate here!
We are new to the area and we have been looking for a new restaurant for my husband and I on date nights. The place is very nice so we assumed the food would be top notch. The filet my husband had was ok. I had the lobster penne dish and the lobster was overcooked and very tough. I expected more for the price. We also found a hair in our lobster bisque and they were very sorry and took it off the tab. We most likely wouldn't go back. Still on the search for good steak and seafood. This one didn't quite measure up.
Me and my wife usually don't have much time during our busy work days, so we pre planned this date and got all dressed up for our night out. They have valet, great great seafood (Order the Atlantic Salmon) it's to die for. I requested the second level it's a little more quit and romantic than the first level where the bar is depending on what your looking for. For a 30 minute drive it was definitely worth while.
We have visited Rod's in the past for lunch, brunch, and our son celebrated his Bar Mitzvah there. But this was our first (yes, 1st) dinner there. It was as expected: excellent! And it topped off a birthday celebration in a relaxed and un-rushed way. Thanks!
Steak was amazing, crab bisque and caeser salad were pretty delicious too. The sides that came with the fancy steak were basic, boring and undercooked. The service was extremely slow and that atmosphere was a little stuffy. I would go back for the steak though.
The highly vaunted buffet was a vast aggregate of platters of sliced salami and cold food, tasteless and contained in ceremonial and battered covered "warming" dishes. Slicing stations were lackluster omelettes or roasts. Desserts were the strongest attraction consisting of cakes, pies and a cobbler. The majority of diners wore unattractive tee shirts and worn shorts. Perhaps befitting the cuisine.
