We had an anniversary dinner. They recognized the occasion which was very nice. Service was excellent. The menu is an odd combo of the tavern and the steakhouse. But the food was excellent. Hope the original Rods menu is restored soon.
Great food and great service! Best food in the area!
Father In Law’s Birthday
This is our third trip to Rod’s & it didn’t disappoint. Everything was perfect & a nice added touch was the piano being played in the bar
Rod's never disappoints. The service and food are always on point. We had 4 dinners - crabcakes, scallops, and tenderloin medallions. They were all fabulous as were the apps and desserts. The wine and liquor selections are plentiful!
The service was outstanding and frankly, the Cowboy Steak I had was delicious and was perfection on my tastebuds! Cannot get any better than these guys!
Everyone was fantastic. The food and service amazing. Loved our dinner and looking forward to another visit soon.
Very nice! Great staff and wonderful food- highly attentive
Phenomenal cuts, beautiful space. Will definitely be returning when business brings me to Morristown.
I've never complimented a dessert in an OpenTable review before, but you must try the cheesecake!
The food was excellent, as always. Service was not as good as previous visits to Rod's.
Waiter was not very interactive. Otherwise, celebrating my wife's birthday went very well. Great restaurant.
Beautiful restaurant- - wonderful service - - deliciousness in almost every bite - - my date had ordered a petite filet mignon and what she bit into was closer to medium-well (for a steakhouse that’s like an unforgivable sin) - - but not only did the waiter insist on making it right (which he did & that steak was delivered just right & not was thoroughly consumed, but the restaurant ‘comped us’ a dessert !
Bottom line, that gesture (& how the problem was handled after I brought the issue to their attention) is the sign of a classy restaurant- - and I intend to go back again many times to enjoy the ambiance and great food.
The staff are awesome and the food is getting back to normal. We had lobster rolls which were very good.
I came to Rod’s for my birthday dinner. The restaurant had a great quiet and rustic environment. All the food delicious! My order consisted of lobster Mac and cheese, asparagus, calamari, veal chop, NY strip steak, crab cakes and a cheeseburger. Not one complaint or empty stomach!
Both my husband & I enjoyed our dinner out @ Rod’s. Everything was perfect-attentive waiter & staff, and of course the delicious food. This was our second time there & won’t be our last!
Great food and beautiful interior!
Just awesome. They have returned to form after Covid. Food was nothing short of spectacular. Service is also at the high level I expect of a restaurant of this caliber. Tremendous dining experience.
Good experience; the food was excellent. It is hybrid menu for now and know that it will expand post-pandemic. The only request from the family was a few more options for dessert. Look forward to future dinners at Rod’s.
Wish they had a separate menu for gluten free options or marked their menu of what could be prepared gf. Please bring back the fish and chips!
1. Open Table did not have the correct availability information and we we able to walk in and get a table and not have to wait until 730. Which is good on one hand but bad that could have been discouraged and went elsewhere.
2. The should not serve unfiltered tap water. It was very bad tasting.
3. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was not cold enough and didn't snap.
4. The steak cooled off to much before being served.
Haven't been to Rods in 10 years. Still the same consistent amazing experience. Unchanged other than some menu items that I was sad to see missing because of, well, yknow, covid protocols etc. escargot, creamed spinach and mushrooms were still excellent. Cowboy steak was awesome. Drinks at the bar a good pour.
Rod's is always a go to for good ambiance and dining. The setting is one of a kind and we've been going there for years. I was disappointed in the baby back ribs as they were a little overcooked but the beef tenderloin was spot on. Great service....
Food was good. We loved the room and the ambiance of the restaurant.
The entire staff, waiters, waitresses, hostesses, and servers are so friendly whether you dine At Rods Steakhse or the casual Red Dog Tabern.
We had a wonderful family celebration.
Outstanding service and good excellent food. Our server Sara is one of the best we have ever encountered. Friendly, attentive, anticipating any needs. A wonderful evening.
Standard of excellence that continues year after year. It is a special place for a special occasion. Just go and enjoy!
Excellent food and service Great ambience. Went with the prime rib. Delicious. Huge piece. I couldn’t finish it. Lobster Mac was very good with lots of lobster
Super disappointed with our dinners. Fried calamari was overdone and chewy, petite filet had large band of hard fat running through it, cowboy steak was just ok. A steak that is $54 should not just be “ok”. Best part of the meal was the roasted mushrooms. Sad. Service was excellent but definitely not a reason to return.
Thank you for your feedback, PinkMama I'm sorry to learn that the food your recent visit wasn't what it should have been, I'll discuss these issues with our chef in order to avoid a recurrence. Please feel free to contact me directly if you'd like to discuss this further. I can be reached at the restaurant or by email at email@example.com om thank you again for taking the time to reach out. Sincerely, Jerry Keller
Good food well prepared more overpriced than needed limited cuts of meat was disappointing
Hadn't eaten at Rod's in at least 7 years having been disappointed years ago, but gave it another try and was pleasantly surprised!
Service was slow, but staff was very nice. Everyone is having staffing problems with servers. Cocktails were excellent. Wedge salad, caesar salad, and house salad were all outstanding! The bacon on the wedge was thick and cooked to perfection. A great bite.
Chicken pot pie was a mammoth portion, and pretty tasty. Chunks of chicken could have been smaller, and everything inside could have been a bit thicker, but overall pretty good.
The beef tenderloin was really good, seasoned properly, cooked to perfection, over excellent mashed potatoes, and those shoestring onion rings were crazy good. Weakest entree were the crabcakes, which were dry and a bit fishy, but the guest eating it loved it.
Overall, would definitely go back!
Everything was excellent. The Delmonico Steak with the bone in was exceptional as was the Salmon. No need to order more than one Cream Spinach there was plenty for four people to have an acceptable porton. We ate in the train car which was a first. My guests love the atmossphere but I would not reccommed it for healthy sized people. I did not find the bill unreasonable and we were quite comfortable for three hours of private conversation. If you prefer a more robust and less private setting, eat in the main dinning room.
Atmosphere and ambiance was very warm and unique. We loved the “old fashioned” feel. Service was good & the food was very good. However it was a very expensive dinner, and at this price point I’m not sure it was worth it. If you have money to splurge, you will enjoy it!!
Met for a business dinner and I was very happy with the location, food and service.
Fourth time I have had dinner with my family at Rod's. Once again, they did not disappoint. Their pandemic menu, while smaller that their normal menu historically, still had plenty of options. We had salmon, lobster roll, filet mignon, with creamed spinach and salad on the side. Appetizers were fried calamari and crab cakes. Dessert was creme brulee. Cocktails were prosecco and manhattans. Everything was 5 star.
The service was once again excellent: Jose our waiter was amiable, efficient, and had a sense of humor. The support staff was all over us for our every need.
Rod's is really my favorite restaurant in North Jersey. We will be back again and again I am sure. The reason I did not give Rod's 5 stars for value is that it is comparatively expensive. But well worth it. You get what you pay for. And well worth what we paid.
Wonderful to be back to normal after the months of pandemic -- and everyone there felt the same way. Great food, atmosphere and staff!
Great location, nice, professional staff, very good food
We came to celebrate a birthday and found everything to be perfect: service, food, ambiance. Our waitress was extremely helpful especially on choosing a cocktail in the afternoon. Her manner throughout the service was welcoming, friendly and considerate. (She deserves a bonus!)
The food was excellent. We both wanted an old favorite: open turkey sandwich with cranberry. The turkey was well cooked with tasty mashed potatoes and ample cranberry. I would have liked a green vegetable with it, but it was all so hearty, we certainly do not want this to appear as a complaint, more as a suggestion. Not so incidentally was the lovely gesture of a complimentary dessert with a candle! How considerate! Thank you for making this special for the "birthday baby" (89 years old) and me (the host).
What can be said about the ambiance? Walking into Rod's was like passing into another world, free of the challenges of this difficult year, into a place of solace and delight. We both were so happy you have continued to thrive with the expertise and charm that are clearly part of your legacy and reputation. Thank you.
The service and quality of the food was excellent.
Excellent food, service, ambiance, as always!!
