Rod n Reel is always good for a Sunday morning short drive from the crowded city restaurants no place to park, over priced menus. If you could improve on anything it would be the omolette station need to enlarge with more cooks to much time in line I could be enjoying the other treats.
The two best aspects of this restaurant are the view and the staff. Everyone was friendly and very accommodating. I'm vegan and though there were no vegan options, there were two vegetarian options that could be made vegan. Unfortunately, the option I wanted was not available, so I was stuck with a very simple pasta (definitely not worth $19.99 in my opinion). Despite this, our waiter was extremely understanding and did everything possible to make sure I had options. It definitely would have been more enjoyable if I was able to ordered what I wanted, though. The restaurant itself is right on the water, which lends a great view. However, the state of the actual restaurant needs some work-- the windows were not clean (made it difficult to fully enjoy the bay view), there were flies all around, and the floors and chairs are not updated. Overall, it was a good experience. The best part honestly was being able to walk right near the water after dinner. I wouldn't recommend this place to any fellow vegans, but there was an extensive seafood/meat menu.
Mother's Day pre made menu was amazing, the hostess was so nice, all in all we had a great experience
Arrived on time for our reservation. We were seated by the hostess, and waited 30 minutes for a waitress to assist us. After waiting patiently, I decided to ask the hostess for our waitress. Our waitress apologized for the long wait. However, it was very warm and muggy in the restaurant. Apparently there was an issue with the AC. I wasn't pleased with the buffet and food. Service and food could've been better than what we experienced.
Everything about the meal was just bad. The service was slow and insufficient. Never once even asked if we would like another drink. My meal (Portobello Mushroom Stuffed with Crab and Shrimp) came out so burned and dry, the mushroom ends were black and hard, the crab meat under the cheese was so dry it was inedible. The mashed potatoes were cold and completely flavorless. I could go on but I think you get the picture. Most definitely won't go back, and it's a shame because the view and location is fantastic.
The service was the worst service I had in a very long. It wasn't busy at all and we had two tables with separate servers. Both gave awful service.
Very disappointed with our service. I never was asked what I wanted to drink. I was brought the wrong soup. It took forever to get dessert. When we asked for separate checks, first told we did not ask for it, then did not remember who ordered what, after we had waited several minutes for checks, then waited several minutes to receive checks, and waited several more minutes for waitress to pay bill. They were having a special event however, they were not busy in the restraunt.
I love the oyster po'boy. It never misses the mark! Good eats!
The food was surprisingly good and reasonably price. We had a table with a view of the waterfront. The service was good and not overbearing. Excellent fish and great bread pudding. Tasty vegetable sides. String beans were not overcooked.
The problem was a wedding party next door with drums beating unpleasantly, even though you could not hear the music. So check if there is a wedding party if you want a quiet evening.
We had a very enjoyable afternoon brunch with family.
Very limited wait staff. 45 minutes to place our orders
Always seem to have a good time here. Food is consistently good. Friendly service.
The food was very good and didn’t break the bank. The Half and Half soup is a must try!!
My parents and I absolutely love the Rod n Reel. We make an effort to take the 45 minute drive from our home at least 2-3 times a year and always for special occasions. Our server Jamie was amazing and probably the best that we can remember which means a lot; as they are amazing servers.
My reservation placed my party at a table shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers. In the banquet room the seating was awful. Rows of endless tables with no privacy for your group, high noise levels, and cramped seating. A table meant for 6 had 4 chairs on one side and 3 on the other. You could not even pull out a chair without hitting the person next to you. I understand this seating is for the Sunday buffet. We requested another seat in the main dining room. We were directed to a round table in a quieter atmosphere which was much more comfortable. Our waitress was terrific and we were all happier. So the Rod and Reed made good.
We had just started eating our meal when a poor lad dropped an entire full tray of glassware on the floor. He appeared hurt and glass went everywhere including our table. Glass hit my son's hand, my sister's foot and landed on our table. The manager came to see us and once again made good on the unfortunate situation. We cleared the table and started over with fresh food and drink. What a bizarre situation but the Rod and Reel corrected it well.
As usual the food was great as was the service. This is one of my favorite restaurants.
Thanks for making my birthday very special.
As always, the place out performs. Service is fast and the food is good.
Arrived for our 7:15 reservation and was immediately seated at a waterfront table and was introduced to our server Samantha (Sam). Ordered drinks and an appetizer. Both were brought out quickly. Delicious real Maryland Blue crab dip. Sam also brought us a complementary selection of spreads and crackers. We tried both the Maryland Crab soup and the cream of crab. Both were simply loaded with lump crab and delicious. We both ordered the Stuffed Portobellos for our entree with side salads and mac-cheese. Every bite was on point. The salad was a great mix of fresh veggies. The mac- cheese was creamy, thick and homemade. The Portobellos were stuffed with lumps of blue crab and shrimp. I'm not sure why the other reviewers thought the portions were small, all of ours were very generous and we are both normal diners. We both had to take home some of the portobello. Sam was personable, helpful and a joy to be around. All in all, I'm so glad I paid little attention to the reviews and dined here. We will be back!
Made the reservation for 6 and 2 of us arrived and checked in 15 minutes early. We were told our table was ready but we couldn't be seated until everyone arrived so we waited in the crowded area up front. 3 more arrived from the Eastern shore and our son was stuck in traffic coming from Germantown. We were told we couldn't be seated AND if he didn't show, we would have to be put on a waitlist, a party of 15 had come in while we were waiting plus the front was already congested. She finally did seat the 5 of us explaining they didn't make reservations for 5 people. Our server never showed up but a super nice server took us under his wing. The place was half empty, but I guess there weren't enough servers. We probably won't be going back and will choose to meet up elsewhere next time.
Went for the Wednesday night "Sinatra Night". The duo was very enjoyable, the food was excellent and the service was top notch. The bar was nice except for slot machines on one side. They weren't particularly noisy, nor were the players, but they definitely detracted from the ambiance. That said, they are well away from the dining room so they did not detract from the dining experience.
Wait for order was long and restaurant was not particulerly busy, but seafood entrees were very fresh and well prepared, so wait was worth it!
Server was great. Had a soloist playing music which was good. Food was good for price.
Our waitress was horrible once our food was delivered I ask for bread/butter and ketchup she never returned until we were done eating when asked about ketchup and bread she apologized stating she was busy gave our check did not even ask us if we wanted dessert
Outrageously priced for the small amount of food. Very disappointed.
We had a great time at brunch celebrating a birthday. Making reservations was a breeze, we walked in were seated in under 2 minutes. Well worth the drive and effort to get there in the rain. We will continue to come back! The food is amazing, the price is a good value as well.
We went yesterday for my husband's birthday. This is not our first time here -- it is our favorite breakfast place. I always book Rod and Reel for meetings and social gatherings with my friends. So many selections and great food.
Very quiet, peaceful with a great view. Great service and food.
Wonderful place I always enjoy coming to this establishment.
Our brunch was outstanding from beginning, making our reservation on Open Table, to end the great service we received throughout the meal.
Great NYE dinner and dancing!
We went for dinner New Year's eve. Reservation was made and we were promptly seated upon arrival. Beautiful atmosphere and view. The food was absolutely amazing. The appetizers were delicious. Clams with chorizo and the oysters Rockefeller were perfectly cooked. The chateaubriand was fork tender and melted in your mouth! The lobster and seafood Norfolk were incredible! Even the sides were delicious. Hands down one of the best meals i have ever had. Fine dining at its best. Will definitely go back.
Christmas night dinner, ran out of many entrees. Food was lukewarm when it was served. I hope the waitress was undertrained, she was not attentive at all.
Reservation was for 12:30 PM. Three members of the party arrived early. When the remaining party arrived at 12:35 our table was not ready. Eventually we were seated in the area where the buffet was being served even though we were not orderering the buffet. After half an hour a waitress arrived and told us this wasn’t her section. Finally someone appeared & took our drink orders. It was an hour before our lunch order was taken. Food was delayed & when it finally arrived it was cold. For a birthday celebration it was disappointing
We celebrated my husband's 78th birthday at the Rod N Reel on Dec 6. We had such a good time and the restaurant looked wonderful! I loved the poinsettia tree and all the holiday decorations!! The food was good and the service was excellent by Kelsey. I have celebrated my 50th and 61st birthdays here. Just a very good restaurant and always a good time!!!
The food was plentiful and the quality was good. Lots of options to meet everyone’s taste. The Santa was great and the picture was a nice touch. However, our service was awful. We sat for more than 20 minutes before we were ever greeted by our server and then it was a quick one at that. No description of the buffet or drink specials. We asked about the drink specials for the brunch and she was annoyed to have to tell us. We ordered a mimosa and a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary tasted like watered down cocktail sauce. She did not clear our plates, but once.
The tables were crammed in the room with hardly room to move between them. When we were ready to pay we had to wait another 10 min. for our waitress to come back.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner at Rod and Reel. There were many food options for a family with so many tastes. Everyone was pleased with the meal. The old folks had traditional Thanksgiving meal of carved turkey, mashed potatoes (white and sweet), green veggies, stuffing, cranberry sauce, dessert and coffee. The young people explored all of the offerings. I think all six of us had a different dessert and wow, what a value. We had fun and everyone left happy!
Dinning experience was great.
However the on line reservation systems was not very good. We made reservation and then were called and informed the time was not available.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! My family and I dined for Thanksgiving. The buffet looked very appealing and the smells that were being let off by the food attracted us even more. Once we got our food, that was another story. The corn pudding basically ran off of my plate and was not cooked thoroughly. The green bean casserole was mushy, the cod wasn't even identifiable as it was chopped into pieces and we constantly had to wait for food to be cooked since none of the staff was watching the pans that needed to be refilled. Our server Dave was nice but had way too many tables as he kept forgetting our drinks and scratching his head to remember. We waited twenty minutes for our check so that we could pay and be on our way. I thank God that I am a good citizen because the way that I was feeling, I should have just left without paying. $238.00 for what???? I voiced my concerns to the manager on duty and he gave us coupons for free bowls of soup on our next visit. I left them on the table because we will not be returning.
Excellent Thanksgiving dinner for the family and friends
