Rod N Reel
Great all around!
We went there for our anniversary dinner. Some of the food cans cold and they had reheat the food. The service is average and the food is ok. I probably would not go back. Overpriced for what you are getting for
Fantastic tasting well proportioned seafood dinners. Will return soon!
The service was good, but the food was great. From the appetizer to the dessert. There’s nothing like a quick getaway, with fantastic food to complete it. Rod & Reel was actually referred to me. I’ll make sure to pass it along 💯.
Very Nice place for a special lunch. Really beautiful rear exterior.
The service and food was great. The server was attentive and personable. Our overall experience was outstanding. We look forward to visiting with you again very soon.
Everything was great except the flies. Really hard to enjoy your food and family when we’re constantly swatting flies.
We had a very enjoyable day. But, our lunch was warm, crab cakes were order, as well shrimp, the greens and mac n chesse. Food could have been hot...
The breakfast buffet on Sunday was great. Tons of options. Service was good and friendly. No one seemed bothered with my family with 4 kids 6 and under.
Food was tough liked it was nuked, greens were salty, mashed potatoes was too dry, had to ask for gravy for the potatoes. Creme brûlée wasn’t lit on fire in front of customer. Service was ok but had to ask for lemons for my iced tea several times. For the price of the food, the food could be better or cooked fresh.
We had reservations but when we arrived our table was not yet ready for us even though the restaurant was less than 1/2 full. Our server was friendly and got our order correct (6 of us) with the exception of putting our entire order (appetizers and meals) in at the same time. As we all know once your food comes you are no longer interested in an appetizer. I felt they should have offered to take them off checks. She admitted she rang them in all together. Didn't do a great job checking back for drink refills or other needs. Food was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal, but next time will try the outdoor restaurant.
Loved it last year but when the kids are complaining about so many flies that was too much. Scrub the place down and it will be nice again.
Rod N Reel is very over priced. The food was average at best and definitely not worth the price.
Avoid the cream of crab soup. It was the consistency of mayonnaise. The waitress returned it to the kitchen and the cook agreed it shouldn’t have been served. The issue should have been realized when spooning it out.
Also, the buffalo wings were served with the buffalo sauce on the side. I’ve never ate at a restaurant which serves their buffalo wings dry.
Is only recommend this restaurant if staying at the resort. The food is decent, we ate there about 4 times and there were 4 of us so tried a lot of meals. Everyone is very nice and accommodating. They seemed a little disorganized almost like it was a new restaurant. But they try hard. Soups were awesome and homemade- these were the yesterday’s soup specials (because they taste better the next day!). Crab cakes and steak were great. Salads weren’t presented well but fresh and often were missing ingredients listed. Side dishes were hit or miss (mac n cheese a no, coleslaw very good). So if you are staying there I’d say give it a try!
We had a reservation for 4 p.m. We were seated at 3:55 our table was ready with a beautiful view. There was a dissatisfied customer who made a scene. However, our waitress, Brittany, appeared to adapt and we proceeded with placing our dinner order.
The food was good but out of the four carrots on the plate only two were eatable. The other two were not fully cooked and could not be cut with a knife. The price does not match the portion of food received. The seafood Norfolk was tasty but it was a small portion compared to the price. The stuffed shrimp were three medium-sized shrimp. My husband was hungry by the time we arrived home.
We enjoyed being together for our birthdays and probably will visit again in the future.
Went for dinner and it was pretty good, but very pricey. Went for breakfast the next morning and was totally displeased! We had omelettes that had no seasoning and the home fries were soggy and no seasoning. We were the only ones there, so it was not busy, and I had to get up and get our waitress in order to get our bill and pay.
We had our Anniversary dinner here and it was great. Service was fantastic and friendly staff. Thank you!
The entree I had was horrible (fish and chips). Lacked any flavor and the fish had a slight green cast to it. I didn’t eat it after seeing that. My husband enjoyed his meal. I enjoyed my Caesar salad and creme brûlée. The server (Natalie) was wonderful. I expected better quality food considering the first rate profile at the bottom of the menu of the executive chef.
The view was nice. Food was fine. Service lacking. Requested surprise Anniversary dessert on open table and called ahead for it. Did not happen. Waited over 10 minutes to be greeted by our waitress. Water not refilled, No bread. No return for dessert or coffee. Left before dessert. No manager walking around to see how things were.
parking area is under construction which severely limits and congests parking; we used the valet service which was fine. The lunch service was extremly slow, the lunch food was ok and nothing special, the price is a little high for lunch time albeit a seafood restaurant.
My wife and I had our worst dining in your Chesapeake Beach restaurant on Sunday July 28, 2019. I made the reservation one week ahead of time and specifically indicated it was our anniversary. We got there and it took the Front Desk person 15 minutes to find us table. When she did, it was in the middle, not even a booth or something intimate. Another couple that overhead my wife complaining switch table with us. No recognition of the anniversary and the sentiment of the dining was completely destroyed. It was our first and last dining at OpenTable, ridiculous!!
I was extremely disappointed. My daughter and I had breakfast that morning and it was excellent, so we expected the same level for dinner. The food was not good. It had very little favor and was over priced.
Food and service was great. Portions were small. Location is wonderful.
Great experience. Please, however, consider purchasing a state of the art pest system to control the flies.
Sarah was a great server, loved the buffet!
Rod N Reel was great but the only reason I didn’t give it a Five Star was the following things:
1) When we ate for Brunch we were seated by the window and our food was attacked by bugs. Sweeping at bugs all morning took away from the meal.
2) We came back for dinner but this time we requested not to seat by a window. After seating down to eat we waited w awhile for our food to come out. As we were waiting the whole side of the table that was seated against the wall started sweeping at bugs again and this time we asked to move our table. It took awhile for the manager to approve the move so the waitress just moved us over to another table. My wife asked for the manager but she never showed up until we were leaving. The manager just apologized and we left as unsatisfied.
3) The parking was bad we had to wait for the shuttle that showed up within an hour to get to the parking lot. We just walked with my mother n law who just had two knees surgery. SMH
4) The food was outstanding and the customer service was okay.
I love Rod n Reel! The crowd is always pleasant and the service is always friendly. My family and I go for the ambiance but the food and mixed drinks are usually disappointing. The food is often bland or has a taste of just coming from the freezer to the grease, the calamari more specifically this trip. I assumed maybe bc we usually go during busy times the food was less than mediocre but this night wasn’t really packed and the food still didn’t match my expectations for such an enjoyable restaurant.
The service and ambiance was nice, however the rockfish with crabmeat was was bland, mash potatoes was lukewarm and bland.
I love this restaurant! I have been here at least a half-dozen times and had outstanding food and service. However, I had no idea that they were building a garage that eliminated their parking lot. I had to drop off my party and ask someone I saw on the parking lot where I could park. She directed me to follow the shuttle, which I did. I did not see signage until I was on my way to the alternate lot. Although the shuttles were provided non-stop, just the hassle of having to park off-site colored this experience for me. If it had not been for the parking issue, I would have rated this visit a 5.
Service was very slow. Extremely over-priced for mediocre food
There is a very nice buffet line here with a multiple options of many different kinds of food as well as an omelette station. All of the food was of high quality and everything was hot. The waitress could have been a little more attentive and the restaurant could use some facelifts. Overall a very good experience except for the fiasco that passed for valet parking.
This was my second visit and it was not as great as the first visit. Our waitress was at all attentive to our needs as while we were there. We had to look for her often during our meal. She bought my brother’s meal out to the table without his second choice of side dish and didn’t say a word about why it was missing until we all acknowledged it. He had to wait while his other food got a little cold to bring his side out to the table.
To sum things up we were disappointed in the service. However, the restaurant is very charming and relaxing with beautiful window views although it rained and thunderstorm.
Made a reservation so was very pleased with the table at the window allowing us to view the water. Fabulous view. The food was good but the service was very, very slow. Doubt we’ll be back anytime soon, if at all.
This was my first time dining at the restaurant which I had heard good things about and I am planning to return before the end of summer. I found the food and atmosphere to be just what we were looking for with the exception of the storm later that evening.
Extensive menu, friendly, attentive staff, no wait to be seated, average waiting time for food, parking situation was not good at all but overall a good experience.
Dinner didn’t match past good experiences. The usually excellent Cream of crab soup was lacking in taste. Cole slaw was bland. Dinner overall didn’t meet Rod & Reel’s good reputation. Felt like I overpaid for what I got. Not the Birthday dinner I had envisioned.
They don’t use open table for reservations less than 6 people but I made a reservation for 4 online and once we arrived there was a lot of confusion. Not sure where the mixup is. We did get seated within 15 mins of our arrival but the staff we clearly confused and disorganized but were accommodating when we arrived. Very long line for the omelette station and there was a wait for for the pancakes/waffles. They should definitely have 2 people working the omelette and pancake station. The tables and silverware were dirty but overall was a decent experience. We sat by the water which was the reason I gave it a 3 and not a 2. I would recommend it but with the understanding the service and food are mediocre but being on the water is awesome.
What beautiful views! The free valet parking is awesome with just a few minutes wait. Just as long as if we would have had to walk to our car on our own. Our waitress was sweet and attentive! Definitely will be back.
Our reservations at Rod & Reel was good. The food has fell off since the last time we were here, but it wasn't bad. My husband & I both got the Mariner's Platter, and the flounder fish was really soft and mushy. At the end of the day, the service was excellent, and the view is always wonderful. We just know what not to get next time.
We were seated at a table by a window. The windowsill was covered with dead bugs. It was unsightly and disgusting.
