My husband and I were in town for a funeral and wanted to relax and eat while remembering our friend. We haven't been to the area since our marriage 21 years ago! Wow things have changed. I started coming to the rod and reel back in 1975 with my parents. Lol. The staff is so friendly! Parking was easy! The view and food worth a memory! I will remember this special experience and won't wait another 21 years to come back. Thank your staff for us please, they made our dinner very memorable.

Never will we ever return there to eat at this place again! Flies in abundance, swatting away the flies to keep them off our dinner plates! Spoiled salad dressing that was suppose to be ranch but tasted like something that was room temp and rancid. Food that was prepared by an amateur chef left so much to be desired for the cost of the meal. Disgusting never again!

The food is consistently excellent and the service very good! The hosts always do their best to accommodate requests for window booths which we appreciate since we drive from Alexandria to see the Bay.

The setting is beautiful but the food was a disappointment. The calamari was tasteless and less than crispy with the exception of the full baby pieces. My seared cod was watery and tasted as though it had been frozen. My aunt had fried shrimp which she thoroughly enjoyed. The side salads were a nice size and were made with a good mix of greens and veggies. However, we ordered the balsamic dressing which neither of us cared for. It had an off taste. We both ordered alternate dressings which we enjoyed. The restaurant itself is pretty and pleasant inside and you have a great view of the beautiful waterfront walkways, bands and, and landscaping.

Went here for lunch. Not crowded on a weekday. Crab dip was good, but as is typical needed more bread. Po boy was Ok, tasted good but needed more sauce. Fish tacos were not to my taste, fish had a very strange seasoning. Overall the food was average and nothing special. However, as others have stated the place was full of flies. Which really takes away from the eating experience and makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen.

We had a great birthday dinner at the Rod n Reel. The birthday guy was very happy with his steak, cooked just right, with sides he enjoyed. I found the Crab Imperial to be absolutely Bay authentic and plentiful. The collards were also traditionally prepared. The restaurant obliged our special request for berries and cream as dessert, arranged in advance. Wait staff was pleasant and got everything right. The food was not rushed out, but for us, as a leisurely celebration, we always had something in front of us to eat or drink, as drinks and "starter" fine assorted crackers and port wine cheese and butter were immediately served up.

The restaurant is on a marina behind a breakwater, with views of the Bay a bit further out. We were told it will soon be moved to be more directly on the water after renovations / expansion of the resort take place.

Always an enjoyable experience at the resort, be it at the restaurant, or outside listening to live music with a more limited menu and drinks. Laid back. Mixed crowd. Good vibe. No snobs.

We drove from Baltimore for a nice dinner by the water. We selected Rod and Reel based on the menu on their website but when we arrived we found out that they had a limited menu for the 4th of July. A limited menu without substitutions for the sides. That is fine but it would have been great to have that on the website to let people know. The food was just o.k. and the prices were high. I moved to Maryland last year and used to say I've never had a bad crab cake. Well now I have.

4th of July - limited menu but wasn't crowded and took 45 minutes to get just 2 entrees. Side salad I ordered never showed up but was on the bill of course. Place has a fly problem. I've had good meals here so I'm not going to say it was awful but definitely disappointing. Giving it a slight break since it was a holiday but it could have been considerably better.

Compared to my 2 fish tacos for $9.99 my husband’s Oyster Po Boy for $15 was quite lacking. 4 small fried oyster on a sub roll! When speaking to the manager he said this was standard, he did bring 3 more oysters, but definitely was not worth the money.

Riding home from southern Maryland we stopped for dinner Sunday evening. Host was very friendly and seated us by a window-lovely views of the Bay. Drinks were generous and perfect and our dinners were all a hit! My father, who usually picks at his food, cleaned his plate! We had flounder, swordfish, crab cakes and stuffed rockfish and they were all delicious. Too full for dessert but selection looked good. It was too hot for us to enjoy the outside, but live music and bar out there looked like a lot of fun-maybe next time it will be a little cooler. Can’t wait!

The food was excellent at the restaurant; however for the price I expected a nicer atmosphere. We had a great table overlooking the pier and the area where concerts are held and even fireworks marking the early July 4th holiday. The prices were a bit upscale for the way the restaurant looked. The carpet was outdated and dirty in some areas. The restaurant was hot in the back near the banquet room, and there were plenty of nets flying around the restaurant due to the extreme heat and proximity to the beach. We went as husband and wife for a romantic dinner, but we were sitting next to a family. The decor is outdated and the window likely haven't been washed for a while. I was a bit over-dressed for the occasion but my husband felt comfortable in his relaxed attire. The waitress was attentive and helpful and had great suggestions. The appetizers were a bit overpriced, but the meals were great. They offer a great cracker and cheese tray ahead of dinner which would have been nice for them to inform us before we purchased several appetizers. We were bummed that they were out of the apple crisp dessert, but the Smith Island cake more than made up for it.

Was not informed that there would be a super condensed "4th of July" menu for that night. There was no option for substitution and there was no options other than seafood and the only sides were mashed potatoes and stewed tomatoes ... absolutely ridiculous. The portions were ridiculously small and did not include what was even said on the menu. Example: my dish was supposed to come with pasta but received white rice. The restaurant was not busy at all so I am not sure what the reasoning behind a condensed menu was needed. Not one person was happy with their food in our party and we all left extremely unsatisfied and hungry.

Service was a bit slow especially considering the place was not full when we arrived; our order took 30 minutes to arrive for lunch and we were not offered any bread to tide us over. Two of us ordered crab cake sandwich, which were over-browned almost burned on the outside. I had the crab flatbread which had fresh crab on it but the flatbread was soggy.

The service was great. Our food came very quickly and we loved the cheese and crackers before the meal. Cream of crab soup was delicious. But our prime rib was so salty that we could not even finish it. It was very disappointing because we don't' treat ourselves often. It's a shame because it was a great value that included soup and desert. This restaurant gets really good reviews overall so maybe we should have just stuck to the seafood

In the past I have had nothing but rave reviews for this restaurant. The cream of crab soup was the best of any I have eaten and the drinks were flavorful and potent. Always great service but today the service was slow and extremely poor. The food and drinks were all sub-par. The cream of crab soup that I loved in the past was salty and lacking in lump crab meat. When our group complained to the manager on duty he took the soup back to the kitchen and simply added crab meat and water to dilute the saltiness. It was a cold, disgusting, watery mess. The entire group sent the soup back to have it taken off our bill. When the food arrived it was over cooked, cold and the orders were incorrect. The drinks were weak and flavorless. One member of our party complained and complained to no avail. I wanted to send everything back but the group was hungry and tired and just dealt with the situation. I will not return to this restaurant again.

Empty water glass for most of meal. Extremely loud patron seated three tables away. Disturbing to entire dining area. Dressing was dry & tasted like cardboard.

Cream of crab soup and Rockfish were the best! Service was horrible! They had two wedding parties there that day and they were severely understaffed. Waitress was so busy trying to handle her guests that one of us received the wrong vegetable, requested the right vegetable Twice! Finally, received the correct vegetable, but by this time the rest of her meal was cold. End up taking the meal to go.

My family and I went for Father’s Day and we had a reservation at 2:45. We stood in a line where there was no one to help any of us with reservation. We finally got to our table at 3:30! The food, there weren’t many options to chose from. The limited the menu. There was also a buffet that was plain and simple. Just fried chicken, Mac and cheese, mash potatoes, etc. You know just foods that are not meant for a special occasion. We kept waiting around for our waitress, she didn’t really help at all. We ended up leaving, cause the food and service were terrible.

We chose to eat at Rod N Reel on Father's Day (6/17/17), because the first time (two years ago) we went there the food was great, the view of the bay was awesome, and the service was excellent. It was not so on Father's Day.

Although we were seated upon our arrival, we waited 15 minutes for our Server to attend to us, and that was only after I had asked another Server if she was assigned to our table. She wasn't but did go to get our Server. When that Server did come to take our drink and appetizer order, it took another 15 minutes for her to return with the drinks and additional 10 minutes to bring the appetizer.

Later, we ordered our entrées hoping that it wouldn't take too long. Not! We had to ask one of the Owners if she could check on our orders as we had been waiting 45 minutes since the entrées had been ordered. She apologized for the delay and did check on our order, but we still had to wait an additional 20 minutes for the entire party (7 persons) to get the entrées. Thank goodness, the food was good and hot! Also, two in our party ordered the same desert only to be told later by the Server that they had run out of that desert so only one of them got it; and she stated that it wasn't even good.

We didn't blame the Server for all of the delays, etc. because she was only to place the orders. Evidently, the cooks and kitchen help weren't prepared to serve on Father's Day.

Although the food is great and the view is awesome, one thing is for sure, we'll never go to Rod N Reel on a holiday again.

We made a reservation for Father's Day at Rod n Reel. It was busy, as was to be expected, but it seemed like the restaurant was completely unprepared. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, and were finally seated right behind the host station. Throughout the meal, because the hosts and the restaurant was so busy, there were basically people standing and talking all around us and bumping into us. We then waited another 10-15 minutes for someone to come over. We figured the food would take a long time, so we put all of our order in at the time we ordered drinks. It took fifteen minutes for us to get drinks--one member of our party was informed the drink choice he made was not available, so it took another 15 for him to get a different drink. About 45-50 minutes after we sat down our appetizers arrived. The bread for the crab dip was two microwaved pretzel rolls, and the risotto was cold. We waited yet another 45 minutes or so for our entrees to arrive. Only three of them ever did; my father's meal did not come out. The waitress was very apologetic and went back to check a couple of times, but after 20 minutes of waiting (btw, he got pasta, so it shouldn't have been a difficult meal to come up with quickly) we just asked for the check. Thus, my father left his father's day meal without getting the meal he ordered. Including tip, this experience cost me nearly $170.00. I will never go to the Rod n Reel again, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

A very disappointing Fathers' Day. They fumbled our reservation; took forever to serve us (20 minutes for first visit by waitress, 35 minutes to iced tea and coffee and nearly an hour to get most of our food) and failed to bring all items we ordered, and even slopped some of it. Poorly prepared the Seafood Norfolk. However, the crab balls and stuffed rockfish were tasty even if over priced. I'll not recommend or return.

I can not stress enough how unhappy we were with our experience at Rod N Reel. Our server Haley was incredibly rude. She threw crackers for my moms' soup on the table. Refused to provide the entree I requested until another server said that it could be done. Never checked on us or offered bread. When removing dirty dishes, she pointed to a plate on the table for my mother to hand it to her. When bringing the check, my fiance held out his hand she put it on the table. I eat out often and I have never experienced such service. Oh, we were celebrating a 75th birthday and Haley was aware. She ruined what should have been a great celebration. Yes, we spoke with management and they acknowledged that they were aware that she was having a bad day.
