Rocky Point Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The crab sliders and hamburger were great. The chicken sandwich , the chicken was thin and very dry. The person in my party should have sent it back, but she did not want to make an issue so only ate half. The staff is very nice, sure it could have been resolved. Beautiful location.
Great ocean view on a beautiful sunny day, sat outside soaking up the sun and watching the whale spouts, worth the 20 min drive from Carmel. Food was average for a local oceanfront restaurant (had Crab Salad Sliders, prime rib sandwich). Waiter couldn't get the kids plain burger right, kept coming out with other stuff on it which the kid won't it after it's "tainted" (a pickle is touching it, I can't eat it!). There was a sign in the lobby saying they weren't serving cocktails until after 5:00pm, which seemed odd for a place that does drinks with a view much better than their food.
This restaurant is ALL ABOUT THE VIEW! Go for an amazing view of the sunset. The food is fine/good. There is something for everyone here. The restaurant has a charming feel to it. But the main draw is that gorgeous view. There is not a restaurant for miles that has such a unique spot - and rocks by the water you can climb around. Great for photos!
The host took us to a dirty table, she got a towel n sweep the crumbs from the table to the table placemat n put back on the table...so we left that table n went to sit on the bench table outside where it was much cleaner. It's Christmas but wasn't even busy. Service is very slow, they forget to bring us hot sauce when we asked for it. Food was delicious. View was beautiful.
A belated birthday lunch/brunch for a friend was the occasion. It was a gorgeous day and we sat outside enjoying the spectacular and breathtaking views of the ocean. The brunch was delicious and our server, Austin, was friendly, fun and attentive. I love this special place and I would highly recommend it for any and all occasions.
Food was insanely overpriced. 12$ to have your fries switched out for onion rings(on top of the original price for your entree)Redeeming qualities were the view and our service. Austin was truly a gem. Funnny thoughtful and attentive. Food wasn’t great but the view is worth the drive for at least a glass of wine.
Amazing. I arrived about 30 min before sunset, got my table with a view, ordered a drink and then enjoyed the drink while walking around enjoying the waves and the sunset. WHAT A VIEW!!! I then went in to enjoy dinner and the remained of the sunset, and as twilight ended the lights lit up the rocks so I could still enjoy the crashing waves!!!
Have been here many times to take visiting friends and family on our way down the coast to share our spectacular CA coastal views. I like that they have security guard who will not let you in driveway unless you have reservations. Also, they do not answer their phone, so make reservations online. All staff are very nice, and super efficient, and you can sit on patio with your dogs. Just need to say do not order the bloody mary unless you want it virgin. They didn't put vodka in any of ours. We should have ordered a bottle of wine instead.
We had one night out in the Monterey area as we were visiting family. After scouring the advisor boards, we settled on Rocky Point for the sunset view. It was a quiet Wednesday night and a gorgeous drive on Hwy 1. We arrived in time for drinks and sunset viewing (5:00) prior to our 5:15 dinner reservation - early of course, but we wanted to see the sunset!! We were treated to awesome cocktails to accompany our outside sunset view. Service was terrific! We had Caesar salads and Cioppino & the mussels appetizer as our meals. Food quality and quantity were both superb! A terrific date night!
This was at least our third visit to RockyPoint. We were seated in bar area for the first time—never again!! Waiter was also bartender. Waited at least 15 min before he even took our drink orders or water. Missed out orders for salads all together. Very disappointed as we absolutely love the beautiful setting, but they need to get their act together on service.
A friend recommended Rocky Point which literally sits on a rocky point overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful vistas north, south and west. Being that it was late October, it was too cool for us to sit outside which would have been our preference. Inside it okay. The service and food was good, but expensive like everything in Big Sur. We should have split a plate as the meals are large. Beef burger was good and crab burger was okay. I liked that Rocky Point was less crowded than many of the other places on Route 1, but we did have a reservation just in case.
Spectacular views as you enjoy inside or outside seating overlooking the incredible Pacific Ocean's roar. Golden Hills on the other side. The service was excellent and food was very good. I had a great burger that came with crispy fries and my wife enjoyed a large salad. The restaurant sits right on the cliffs off California Highway 1, below Carmel By The Sea, with Big Sur less than 20 miles South. And the exceptional California weather we had, and the experience was heavenly.
Extremely rude manager who questioned if our service dog was legit. His tone was condescending and plain nasty. This place has the most inspiring views but he did his best to ruin our meal. When I spoke with him after the meal about his rudeness, he said he was, “just doing his job.” Since when is it a manager’s job to be rude?!
Its turned one of my all time favorite places into an establishment that allows rudeness and blatant disregard for the customer.
They need to read up on service dog rules or someone will take make them pay for that kind of treatment.
Food was also not up to par, especially the chicken,
Everything was perfect! The food, an incredible view and the service. Roberto was our waiter and catered to our every need. He made our experience extra special. Our party of 4 had the Ciopino, the flat iron steak, the ribs and the scampi. All were perfect.
Ok. So on the open table menu. It says 10 oz prime rib And twice baked potato. Well we get their only 14oz No baked potatoes or twice baked potato. Instead mashed potatoes that were awful and dry. So we called over the manager to discuss. OMG. Very incompetent. Actually a goofball. Totally did not get it. He said he had been their 6 months. I would have thought 6 hours. No grasp of the issues. Just said the owners had not updated websites
I Would Recommend this Tourist Trap.
We went primarily for the view (it is fantastic--sunset in to the pacific) but the food was very good. I was very pleasantly surprised. Our server Arron was excellent. On his suggestion, I tried the flat iron steak and arugula and found it was very flavorful. The paired wine made a great combination.
It was worth the drive and very enjoyable
Incredible views with either indoor and outdoor seating! We both loved our drinks and entrees - my grass fed burger was perfectly cooked and delicious while my husband's prime rib sandwich was the best he ever had. It was so tender that it "melted in his mouth"! Our server Austin was fun, polite, courteous and didn't rush us at all. This was a perfectly memorable lunch experience!
We were extremely disappointed overall with Rocky Point. The view, of course, was spectacular however the service was mediocre, the food was fair and the ambiance was quite lacking.
Unfortunately, Rocky Point has changed from a romantic restaurant with fabulous service and ambiance to a tourist trap.
We are locals and would like to support local restaurants but this one is overly expensive and not what it used to be.
9/25/2017 Celebrated Two birthdays. Prime rib sandwich fries and desserts were outstanding. Seafood salad was overpriced and a bit disappointing: not enough lettuce, only 1/2 egg, only 1 prawn. The salad was very good though. Overall, an experience not to be missed. Absolutely gorgeous setting, gardens, great trails to walk. Will definitely be back soon.
We took a close look at the menu presented on OpenTable before we arrived, so we were ready to order when we were seated—only to find out that the menu had changed and prices had been raised a bit at least several months ago. Strike one. Our appetizer was dropped off hastily by someone other than our official server—and neither he nor our server had noticed that we had no silverware nor napkins. Strike two. When I said, "Excuse me, sir..." as another server walked past carrying some silverware (and our food was getting cold), he turned and looked right at me, then just looked away and kept on walking. Strike three. When our mixed drinks arrived (delivered by yet another server), one was fine but the other literally tasted like it had zero alcohol. Strike four.
This place serves delicious food and features a spectacular coastal view. It's really sad that our former favorite date place just can't seem to get its act together. I don't think we'll be going back again.
