Rockwood Grill and Blue Star Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed the dinner buffet very much. The seafood and prime rib were delicious. The dessert options were amazing. We love dining outside. I ended up eating breakfast, lunch and dinner here several times over my six day stay. All of our experiences were wonderful.
Having a second home in the desert, and hosting friends at such, we always bring our guests to the Marriott Desert Springs for a nice dinner out. The service and food this time was way below par. Initial acknowledgement of us seated at our table took 30 minutes. Finally get to order drinks and get a basket of bread (wife was starved) Drinks come 10 minutes later, and still no bread ( did I mention wife was starving? she's pre-diabetic) Order dinner. Got 5 meals right, one was wrong. All 3 of the 1/2 chicken orders were so bad that they were left on the plates. We promptly paid. left. and got something for my guests from in n'out. Great ambiance. Fix the food and we will be back.
This memorable brunch was on Christmas day - EVERYTHING about it was outstanding. From the huge variety of exquisitely prepared food to the professional & thoughtful service by Andrea to the perfectly glorious weather & exquisite setting outside on the lake at the JWMarriott in Palm Springs. Perfection was achieved by the whole team - management, chefs, front & back of the house staff - in creating this stellar dining experience.
Food was the best part of the experience
Hostess was welcome and very respectful
Servers and food runners were loud in putting silverware and glasses. Need to learn more fine dining edicts. After dining and spending about $300 for only 2 people. The person left at the front desk refused to stamp the ticket for valet and we had to wait for manager to take care of it.
It wasn’t about the $8 valet parking but about the concept that the hostess said the normally validate tickets! They have some communication issues and as I said edicts about fine dining.. sadly for an establishment in JW Marriott.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Rockwood Grill. The restaurant has the choice of inside or outside dining. This visit we chose inside along the expansive windows, as we decided to order their magnificent buffet for dinner. (Available Friday and Saturday.) Their set up for the buffet was quite amazing. The food choices included sufficient variety from soup and salads and a pasta station, to pizza, chicken strips and fries for the kids, to shrimp and crab legs to chicken and prime rib. And much more. The dessert selections were so beautiful from chocolate strawberries to pecan tarts to mousse chocolate cups and so many more selections. It almost looked too pretty to eat! Wines (extra) by the glass or bottle, and cocktails are also available. Service was friendly and professional. We were looking forward to returning to this restaurant on this trip and we definitely came away happy (and full).
We used to really enjoy this restaurant, but it just didn't seem to meet the bill this time. Friday night should have been at least moderately busy. Wasn't busy at all. Had our choice of any table.
I specified a special occasion (Anniversary), no mention of it by our waitress. Restaurant reported a "no show" to Open Table. Had our name wrong on the reservation at the restaurant. How can you do that when it is on the open table reservation? Food was good, but not spectacular as it has been in the past. Not sure we'll be back
Rockwood was a fine dining experience. Nice setting overlooking the water and you can get a boat transport from hotel lobby to get there. Food was great although the menu was quite limited and a few were quite pricey.
Some items like steaks, were priced without any accompanying starch or vegetables. Service was fine but slow at times. Still all in all a nice place to dine.
Brunch was extensive, pretty flavorful and had a lot of staff attending to it. We waited for outside seating and had a banquet that had cushions falling off and at least 3-5 inches lower than the chair side of the table. Very uncomfortable to get in and out if. If the cushions were the right height, vinyl and secured it would have been much more enjoyable. I wish we sat inside even though it was a beautiful desert day. The scenery was beautiful, service was fine and there were almost too many food choices.
The food, ambiance and gorgeous view always brings us back. The crepes were to live for and wait for. We got there when they opened and it took awhile to heat the hot plates for the crepes. The wait staff is very attentive and we didn't have any down time waiting for refills on coffee or champagne. A relaxing enjoyable brunch before we watched an exciting Charger game in the lounge bar area.
Were staying at the JW Marriott for a gymnastics competition and needed someplace close to feed the girls (and ourselves) before they were to compete so we chose the onsite restaurant Rockwood Grill. All of the girls (ages 9-12) had the buffet, a few parents had the buffet and the rest ordered from the menu. For the buffet it was great for the kids, but for the price ($40) for the adults, it was pretty skimpy - though the prime rib was decent. The major issue was the terrible service we had. At one point we had to ask a manager to help us track down our waiter just to order (our waiter didn’t seem to care). Though there was almost nobody in the restaurant (our reservation was for 4:45pm!), he never seemed to be around, never came to replenish our drinks and took about 20 minutes just to get our bill (though we had explained to him we were in a hurry due to the competition). I would only recommend this place if you have no issues with very slow service.
We had Sunday brunch on the beautiful outside patio. It was very pleasant, the food was good and although barely noticeable, I really appreciated having someone there to keep the birds away. The brunch offered a reasonable variety of breakfast foods and the omelets were made to order.
The waiter was very persistent in taking our order and we wanted to relax and enjoy eachothers company. He was very annoying constantly hanging around our table. After we did finish, no one cleaned up our empty dishes, poured fresh water. Place was empty and no reason to rush us or bus the dirty dishes off our table. "Very disappointed in the service and would not recommend to others.
View outside was gorgeous. Our reservation was at 645pm so perfect time to watch the sun go down. It was really hot outside still so plan on the heat. Service and hospitality was great, small mishap on the side dish and was immediately corrected. I did get the wrong temperature on my meat and the staff changed my bill and did the right thing, the food was very good and love the simplicity in the dishes. Ambiance was excellent and it was our 2 year anniversary so they surprised us with a delicious cut off dessert. The cocktails were really good, and the calamari was our favorite part out the dinner. The water was refreshing and crisp. I would have given 5 stars if my pork was cooked right and would have given 2 stars if my bill wasn't handled correctly due to the mistake. Staff, service and feeling of comfort and importance was top notch. Enjoy the pics, the scenery is what made this choice and it didn't disappoint.
This restaurant is located in the Desert Springs Marriott, so my husband and I met another couple we were vacationing with here for dinner. We ordered cocktails, wine, and appetizer, all were very good. The service was rushed, our salad was out before we were done with appetizer and our entrees were out before we were even half done with our salads. The food was just ok.
We had dinner here two nights in a row, once with a group for my girlfriend's birthday, and once just the two of us for a date. Both times we were impressed by the service as well as the food. I had a massive and tender lamb shank the first night, and a delicious ribeye the second. We tried all the appetizers, which were lovely, and a chocolate dessert with a shell that crumbled pleasingly once hot chocolate sauce was poured over it. Highly recommended.
Service from the staff is fantastic. The food was really good and in general I liked visiting the hotel property overall (we were not staying there but a friend recommended the cafe for lunch). One note to the hotel -- it's really time to clean or replace the soft goods (cushions and chairs). The bench I sat on had several stains and I noticed the same on the chairs in the bar/lounge area -- really, this is noticeable and needs to be fixed.
We go each year for Father"s Day Brunch and several times throughout the year because of the ambiance, cheese blintzes, crepes, prime rib and their array of desserts; too much delicious food to list. The room is packed with a holiday vibe yet the service is fast, friendly and professional. We enjoy the scenic view of the mountains across the lake, swimming pools and golf course. A relaxing morning!
