No visit to RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen is complete without trying one of the signature desserts prepared in our in-house bakery including our Caramelized Banana Custard Cake and Warm Coconut Doughnuts. Taking our name from an essential ingredient used in Asian cooking, RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen was created by restaurateur David Overton and Singapore-raised, New York-trained chef Mohan Ismail.

RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
After hunting for parking, and working through the maze to get to the restaurant, it's worth the trek. We had to wait maybe 20 minutes with a reservation, but it was Saturday night and the place was jammed. Our server was awesome, drinks and meals were prompt and hot, and VERY tasty.
This is one of my favorite spots to take out-of-town guests.
The restaurant interior is definitely a wow. From the moment you walk in you will be mesmerized by the intricate details of the design of the restaurant.
The staff is friendly too.
The food is good. The menu focuses on southeast Asian dishes which is unique and a good change form the normal routine.
Our table was not ready when we arrived, when they setup a table it was located outside the dining room inside the bar area right in front of the kitchen entrance, it would have been like sitting in front of a highway. We asked for another table and were told that we would have to wait, we did for 13.48-min then decided to dine elsewhere.
We have dined at RockSugar multiple times, but this time we were extremely disappointed!
Me and my girlfriends got together for dinner. I am a repeat customer; my 2 friends were first-timers. For me the food was even better than my first visit. My 2 guests (1 a vegetarian) raved about the dishes we ordered. The server was attentitive and expedient. It was a great dining experience.
One of my favorite fine dining restaurants of the past year. Such a BEAUTIFUL environment! Like dining in a palace.
All of the food I have had (on many occasions) has been great quality and excellent flavors.
It's a trip to the orient!
The presentations are lovely to look at and very delicious. certainly enticing!
I would recommend this restaurant very highly.
And I am a CHEF!
Since we know the restaurant, we decided with my family to have dinner on new year's eve. We ordered like 4-5 different dishes to share all and it was the best. The food was outstanding, tasty, a great fusion of Asian food. The service like always was excellent.
I highly recommend it.
Rock Sugar is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The ambiance is lovely, beautiful decor and cool vibe in the main room. The entry area has open air seating with fire pits, great for cocktails and appetisers. Many vegetarian options. I love their eggplant, and the spicy cauliflower. Great curries and noodle dishes. If you eat animal, the Malaysian Salmon is very good, but the star of the menu is their Shaking Beef.
Our second time here in as many years. We went with kids. Overall, all excellent. They bring out the food as it gets ready and is more geared towards family style eating. so if someone is very picky and cant eat many different items, that'll be an issue. But overall was very good food and service.
I've been here many times but this was my first somewhat disappointing experience. It was a very busy Saturday night and the service suffered. We received dessert but no silverware and we could not get anyone's attention. The whole thing melted. The bill was settled prior to this happening so a 20% tip was already left, unfortunately.
I love this place for the food and ambiance but it is pricey and I expect better.
Food here is amazing!!! A Los Angeles trip would not be complete without eating at Rock Sugar. Must have the Thai chicken wings and Shaking beef. Also, the ambience and decor is unique and second to none. You will definitely not be disappointed with any food choices here.
I've heard a lot about this place, but I was not impressed with the food at all. Each dish was not seasoned well, and some combinations were questionable. The Tuna Tartar was imbalanced, had no flavor, and the pomegranate did not work. Ambience was amazing for a mall restaurant.
Usually RockSugar is great, but tonight they seemed under-staffed. We waited a long time for our food, which was great as usual once it did arrive. At one point I went to the server's station to get some water as no one had been around to fill glasses at all. It was disappointing but won't stop us from coming back.
