About RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen
RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen showcases the cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Unlike fusion cuisine, each dish on RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen’s extensive menu is authentic to its country of origin. From the mouth-watering Indian Samosas to the savory Vietnamese Shaking Beef, the entire menu will transport you to a spice-filled, welcoming corner of the globe. No visit to RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen is complete without trying one of the signature desserts prepared in our in-house bakery including our Caramelized Banana Custard Cake and Warm Coconut Doughnuts. Taking our name from an essential ingredient used in Asian cooking, RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen was created by restaurateur David Overton and Singapore-raised, New York-trained chef Mohan Ismail.

RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
I wish I could taste everything in the menu! I will have to keep going back. The samosas as starters were mouthwateringly delicious. The jicama/grapefruit salad was well balanced and fresh. The black cod was just right, moist inside and seared outside. The chocolate mousse gelato was amazing!
We were a party of six for lunch.
Our server was very attentive and kept our table
filled with food and beverages.
The food here is excellent and everyone was happy
and thrilled to be enjoying all of the dishes we ordered.
The ambiance here is beautiful in decor and
all of the staff were helpful and friendly.
We are Rock Sugar regulars, we come to this restaurant all the time, but this last time was quite a disappointment. The food we normally get was way too spicy that only the kids were able to eat it. They offered to remake the dishes but by then we were all full on fried rice. Probably won’t come back here for dinner... maybe still for happy hour though.
The restaurant met my expectations. The food was great, we ate light and had dessert. The service was good but not too warm and friendly. I think because it was busy, the server was pleasant but seemed a little rushed and didn't really engage us. Overall the experience was great and I will certainly continue to dine at RockSugar and recommend to my Colleagues at Duff and Phelps
Loved everything except that it wasn't very kid friendly. We were with our almost 3 year old and there wasn't a special menu or activities. I understand that it is more upscale of a restaurant and don't cater for kids, but for shoppers at this mall coming in for dinner it would have been a nice option. Loved the food and service.
Food was pretty good tho not as good as previously. Service was poor. We had to ask for our rice after almost finishing our entrees!!! They need more servers to attend to their customers - ours never showed up after we ordered. The loud music made it very difficult to visit - hope they turn it down. They don't seem to realize that friends want to visit with one another as well as eat!
Lacing this visit. A dish that we always get was not the same, Serving was much smaller and it tasted different. The chef added way too much fish sauce. That's a no-no! The restaurant was great to take it off the bill and take the dish away but it's disappointing when you get it every visit and are waiting for it to be delivered to your table. The waiter was great but service was slightly slow. The table on the other side of the clear glass kept staring so it was a little awkward. Love the blood orange sangria!
We had been to rock sugar a few years ago and decided to go again because we were in the area. It’s a nice place and has a very romantic atmosphere. The food is delicious and they have a good happy hour variety. I definitely will go again and bring friends again whenever we are in the area. I may even consider taking my mom out to dinner there just because.
We go to Rock Sugar every time we're in LA. The food is unusual and delicious, and the service is attentive, friendly and helpful. We had questions about gluten-free dishes; and while there weren't very many, our waiter was very good in checking with the kitchen to see what dishes they did have. The drinks, alcoholic and nonalcoholic, are creative and delicious. The decor is cozy and inviting, as if you've been taken away to a SE Asian restaurant. You can likely tell Rock Sugar is one of our favorite LA places to dine.
