RockBass Grill Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed. We ordered water and soda to start looking over the menu. The waitress came back to take our dinner order. She could not recommend anything. And I was sitting by the window almost like I wasn't there. I wanted to order a drink, but she left before I was finished giving my order. She didn't return for 45 minutes. The kitchen brought out our appetizers and salad. All my meal was over cooked to the point it was inedible. My friend ordered a steak well - no pink - and she couldn't even cut it with a steak knife it was so hard! No gluten-free menu so I got a salad and the shrimp and chicken were so over cooked I couldn't chew it. I was given the same amount of dressing as my friend who got a side salad. It was dry. Horrible. She came back to ask about the meal and when I went to order a drink and say something about the food, she walked away. Terrible service. Then the people in my party ordered desert. I did as well. She never brought my desert. It was another 45 minutes before we saw her again. I never got my desert, so she took their desert cost off the bill. She didn't take anything off my bill. A very bad dining experience and it was very expensive. We used to come here twice a month. Now it is down to once a year. I won't be back. I get a better salad and gluten-free food at Arooga's Bar and Grill. This was terrible. Three hours to eat dinner, really?
SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EXECUTIVE CHEF ANDREW DEZ WHO PERSONALLY CALLED TO APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISCOMMUNICATION ON NEW YEAR'S EVE. WE APPRECIATED THE CALL AND HAVE ACCEPTED HIS INVITATION TO RETURN. KUDOS FOR CUSTOMER APPRECIATION!
I had a difficult time rating our dining experience because the problem came after our meal was finished. We've been going to the Rock Bass Grill on New Year's Eve for the past seven years; not only for the food, but also to watch the fireworks display at midnight. Some years they provided hats, noise makers, etc. for their patrons and always champagne to ring in the new year. When I made the reservations, I commented that we wanted a booth at the window to watch the fireworks at midnight. After the meal, we could tell that the waitress was trying to rush us out and I told her we were going to stay for the midnight celebration. At that point, she politely informed us that she was supposed to leave 11:30 and there would be no celebration or champagne this year. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and I wish someone would have notified me of it when I made the reservation and commented we were staying for the fireworks -- we would have made other plans. We will not be back on New Years Eve again.
Was my first time for dinner and it was a nice experience in most all areas. A couple of minor things I wasn’t pleased with, but our server Scott was outstanding!! Really made the problems go away with his great service.
So the good...
-Was able to get table and sit at bar for a few moments waiting for others to arrive
-Food was good and the fresh seafood selection is very good
The bad, no so bad...
-A few hosts/hostesses seemed bothered at our arrival (one of them was outstanding, but everyone else’s demeanor around the host counter seemed very down and non-engaging for such a nice restaurant). That gets a person that hasn’t been at the restaurant previously a little concerned.
-I went to sit at the bar and the service was horrible. I sat there and watched two bartenders look at me multiple times while doing their “small work” that could’ve been done anytime. I actually thought maybe they were busboys until one asked me after 10 mins “can I get you something”. Totally not warm. As a person with an ethnic background (who tips VERY well), this was quite disheartening. Connected, honestly don’t know but hard not to feel that way as everyone else was doted over.
-Food wise: ordered mahi Mahi blackened when it Came to the table, it was slightly over cooked. But not terrible. Taste was good.
1. Do a little service training for host crew and bartenders. Perhaps a little diversity training would help.
2. A better “vegetable” selection on the side order list. My friends and I all had comments about how there were no vegetables to select from on the sides menu. To be a restaurant high on seafood, need for veggie selections.
Very nice restaurant and a very good place to find seafood in the Harrisburg area. For the price it was ok. overall, I enjoyed my time there and if he is still there, request Scott as your server.
I enjoy the food at Rock Bass but the service sucks. I always have to find someone to refill our drinks. Then they bring the food and never come back. Much better service next door at Willie's. Maybe you can get some of those servers to train the ones at Rock Bass.
I really enjoy this place for business lunches. We will definitely come back, but two of the 4 meals this time was sub-par... the Jambalaya was very salty, and the grilled chicken sandwich either very rubbery or undercooked, either way the guest did not finish the meal. I normally arrange these business lunches for around 12:00, but this time we arrived for a pretty late (after 1:30), so maybe stick to earlier lunch times to ensure the food is fresh.
Food was good but service very slow. Large group slowed kitchen and our server couldn't keep up with her large number of tables. No coffee or dessert offered. Didn't check back in on us after food was served to see how we were doing.
I would return but not on a weekend.
We’ve been here numerous times and even had our first date here over 7 years ago. The last few times we’ve eaten here, we have been unimpressed by the service and food quality. Fried foods cooked in oil that isn’t hot enough will be soggy, over cooked and just not tasty. Other food items just weren’t well prepared. Server never returned to check on us - another glass of wine would have been great. I don’t think we will be going back. There are too many other (better) options in the area at this price point.
We used to love this place, that's why my husband and I picked it for a "date night". We were so disappointed. The crab pretzel was not even warm, and neither of us even tasted crab. My husband got jumbalia and it didn't have shrimp in it. My mahi mahi was chewy/over cooked and I didn't get my second side. The server wasn't too bad. Not the best way to end a night that we wanted to enjoy. Wish it was as good as it used to be.
Was time for a nice night out so we returned to Rock Bass. We were quickly seated in one of the window-side booths (as requested via Opentable). The server rushed us a little to select drinks and meals, but we could live with it. Fresh bread was provided - nice touch. We started with the crab dip - very nice, though my wife enjoyed it more than I did. Entrees arrived promptly. My wife considers herself a crab cake expert and enjoyed her's very much. I had the blackened scallop special served with risotto. The pairing worked very well, especially with a neutral chardonnay as the risotto calmed the blackened seasoning before each sip. The scallops were excellent. We decided against dessert, but did have after dinner drinks. I asked for a bar menu and was provided with the general menu. Apparently they don't have a bar menu. My wife enjoyed an her Irish coffee. I had to ask what liqueurs were available. Overall, the experience was very nice. A busy table adjacent to ours complete with a dozen kids was the only distraction. Nice night out.
we decided to go the seafood route. My wife had the broiled scallops and I had the fried seafood platter ( i usually go broiled but wanted a change) both were very good. Martinis were very good as well. Since our meals were large we did not have room for dessert.
our waitress was Sharon and she was excellent. She was patient as we took our time ordering while enjoying our martinis, served our food in a professional manner and was very pleasant as we took care of our check.
Rock Bass Grill is on the Susquehanna River, directly across from Harrisburg, and provides guests with an option to sit on the deck or inside with large glass windows open to the deck and river. It's a great place for a business lunch away from the downtown regulars, and also nice for spring/summer/fall happy hours on the river. Was there for a business lunch and wasn't disappointed. We were met on entry and our reservation quickly acknowledged - and seated at a booth held for us by the windows with a view of the river and City Island. The Grill features a raw bar with raw oysters, mussels and clams - options change daily with the market - and a good variety of fish and seafood options on the menu. This trip we had the Maryland Crab Soup, fish tacos (large portions of Mahi Mahi with a chipotle sauce-nice!) and a fish sandwich - again good large portions!
The food was excellent. I had a few choices in mind and the waitress was honest and told me which dishes she recommended based upon other diners comments. The atmosphere was nice as well. The surf and turf was a bit pricey. They had a large number of fresh catch options. I would recommend for a special occasion.
Last night my gf and I had the soup special, Shrimp Corn Chowder. They should have called it Corn Chowder, between our two bowls we each had one small piece of shrimp.
Next was my gf dinner, she ordered the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab what she got were small shrimp with some type of crab looking dip all in a casserole bowl, not jumbo shrimp or crab meat as we are both custom to. On top of it since the shrimp were buried in the crab dip stuff they should have removed the shell from the tail. The chef actually stopped by our table to ask how our food was and I told him. He said the guys who serve the soup into the bowls should mix it up before serving. His explanation for the jumbo shrimp was that he has argued with the owners for many years about how "stuffed jumbo shrimp" should be served and the owner tells him to do it the way we had the dish. Since my gf didn't eat most of the "stuffed shrimp" I would have least expected a refund for the incorrect way they advertised the dish but all he said was hopefully they can make it up to us next time and I'm thinking I want you to make it up to us now for a disappointing dinner, but nothing. I doubt I will go back even though we have had great food in the past but all it takes is one bad experience.
