Rock 'n Chair
Great service, food did not disappoint. Drinks needed some help. Live guitarist was a treat. We did not sit outside, but the deck looked pretty nice.
Open table allows reservations for breakfast but isn’t open for breakfast. Drove all the way there for nothing.
not prepared for us, almost shocked we arrived. Once sat, we waited for a long while until a waitress actually came by. Food was poor and that's being nice. I ordered NY strip and it simply wasn't a strip. It was a different cut. Charged the same high price. Three kids got past and it was total mush. I would not go back
First time here, so as a party of 9 we hoped they could adequately accommodate us. Our waitress was great and attentive with drinks. Food was delicious as well. Several of us got the crab & corn chowder and the crab risotto, and everyone enjoyed what they got. We’ll definitely be back!
Shrimp scampi was not to par.
Caesar was ok
Store bought croutons
Food is fair
Competition in town with Polpo
Needs to step it up with a better chef
Was our favorite place each week
Service was good
Our waitress was great and handled our large party well. The actual dinner was okay but not worth the pricing. When it came out it was lukewarm and average at best.
Table was ready when we arrived. Waitress and staff friendly. Food was prepared well, tasted great. We were a large party of 9 but everything came to the table quickly. A recommend.
Great atmosphere especially for a big group.
Second time in a week going there for dinner and everything is fantastic and especially the waitress was just super
Fantastic meal and I especially liked my sever (Alexa). We loved the steak frites and stuffed shrimp. Also you can go wrong with any of the martinis. We will be going back very soon.
The meal started with the manager greeting us and suggesting one of the specials of the night. We thought it was very sweet and considerate of her to take the time to make the suggestion. Her suggestion was a seafood bread bowl which was AMAZING! We decided that the espresso martini’s and cheesesteak egg rolls would pair nicely with our dinner and they were both delicious as well. The service was fantastic and we were frequently checked on to make sure we were well taken care of. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.
Food was shore food. It was good, but somewhat expensive. Environment bright and airy.
We were going to the Atlantic Bay Symphony concert at Avalon Elementary School so planned dinner at 5:15 that Saturday evening. We arrived in time for the wonderful early dinner - soup or salad, choice of entree plus dessert with a complementary wine. Delicious and only $20. What more could you want? Well you could also eat outdoors on the wrap around deck if you choose.
Every time we come to the shore for vacation we always go here once or twice. Everything is excellent and we love eating out on the patio. Been going there for over 50 yrs
TERRIBLE service!!! Do not go and spend your money at this joint!!! Manager is SASSY AND RUDE. We waited for over 1 1/2 hours for our BAD food. Over cooked and COLD. DO NOT GO TO THIS BAD RESTAURANT.
Went to restaurant with a large crowd on a weekday. Server Alexa was excellent. Food was very good. Restaurant was empty because of weekday during summer. Drinks were great.
Good food, ok prices... service was great
Tuesday dinner specials are great! Glass of wine, salad, dinner and dessert for $20, tough to beat!
We haven’t been to the Rock n Chair in awhile (for no reason) but decided to give it a try. Party of 5 all had good meals, service was good, overall a little pricey but comparable with other dining in AV. Highly recommend the waffle and ice cream drinks/desserts. I would recommend to friends and would dine again.
The food was mediocre at best the service was wonderful
We’ve been going to Avalon for 30 years. Have avoided this place for no great reason. Reviews are really mixed, but our experience on a Thursday night in mid-July was fantastic. Really good food, great waitress, timely service, good ambience, and they had our table of 8 ready to go at 6pm. Cocktails were really good, good beer selection. Really no complaints. Good value for the money.
Food was excellent, service too. Inside seating is tight but overall great experience.
Wish they would push live music back to 8:30 or so as its loud (but good)....larger families talk over each other as it is BUT having to talk over loud live music is a challenge even for loud families! If you don’t mind live loud music the place is an A+ all around.
Absolutely horrible experience. Waiting patiently for thirty minutes before we were even approached by a waiter. Another wait for cocktails and we left before they even arrived. It’s no wonder on July 4th weekend tables were available for every time while every other restaurant was booked.
We have gone there a number of times but last Saturday wasn’t particularly good. My son’s steak was over cooked, my daughter’ Pizza was unappealing and they got the order wrong for another person in the party but to their credit, resolved the problem.
We had a reservation and were seated by the kitchen and bus boy traffic. Waitress didn’t know what country the wine was from and didn’t offer to find out. 5/6 didn’t like our dinner and when the waitress asked me why I didn’t eat it, I shared it wasn’t good at all. She stared at me and walked away. Overall it was a terrible experience. I would never come to this establishment again!
Service was excellent attentive, fast, and polite.
Food was outstanding! We had pescatarians, dairy free, and gluten free diners. All were extremely satisfied!
Not our first time very good as usual
My family went there for Father’s Day brunch and it was wonderful. Great food, great service (I think our server was named Andrew) and great brunch time cocktails.
Our dinner was great! The calamari was amazing as always! We all enjoyed our entrees and had a lovely
Horrible undercook food never again waste of money
We enjoyed a great lunch for restaurant week with wonderful service and tasty food. The entrees were creatively inspired with fresh ingredients. Nice ambience and friendly staff that made you feel welcome.
Well it was a bust.
Maybe not enough wait staff.
Our food came very very slow.
The entrees took 1 1/2 hrs to arrive
& most were not warm.
We ate because by then we were starved.
Our waiter disappeared til end of meal.
We were dissappointed this year. The strip steak was tough, dry, and tastes like freezer burn. Fries were cooked too long.
The prime rib, on the other hand, was executed very well.
Good food, fun trivia night. Service and food are consistently good here. The drinks are a bit pricey but good. Older crowd with music they love.
Great place, food was great. Not sure what ppl are complaining about.
“Background” music was way too loud. Had to yell while having dinner to talk to our friends. Food was ok.
This dinner was to celebrate our 37th Annivrsary. We went at 6 so it was a quiet time. I ordered the Char Grilled Salmon with LUMP crabmeat, it was shredded, I had to scrape it off as it taseted like cheap canned something! The Salmon was very good though as was my husbands prime rib. As we were ready for our check the waitress commented, “ did the hostess tell me that tonight is your anniversary, when I said yes she said she forgot to mention it earlier.” We have never gone out to a “nice” restaurant when they did not give us a complimentary dessert to celebrate the occasion.
What happened to this place? After our dinner there, hard to understand why all the 5 star reviews. This place used to have a chill vibe with linen tablecloths, subtle lighting, and a high-end menu fit for foodies. To our surprise, this place seems to have been overtaken by new owners/management. Now it is nothing more than elevated diner food--picture bright overhead lighting, vinyl/plastic chairs and tables with the obligatory 5-page plastic laminated diner menu. To boot, on a hot night, they opened the sliding doors to the outdoor deck, so what was the point of being in the A/C?? Nothing we ate knocked our socks off. Wine list is meh. If you want a caesar salad instead of the house salad, add a $2 surcharge for the world's tiniest caesar salad (comes on a saucer-size plate). Someone in our party got sick--not sure if it was the undercooked scallops wrapped in bacon appetizer, or the crab-topped sautéed veal. Nothing was terribly fresh tasting. This explains how we were able to book a large party last minute on an August Saturday night. We won't plan to return. Sad how the place has changed.
