We made a reservation and were told it would be "just a few minutes", but 20 minutes later we had to ask a server when our table would be ready. We were finally seated about 30 minutes after our reservation time. The bartender was serving tables as well and was obviously bothered taking bar orders (we went to the bar to wait for our table). Also, once we were seated, we observed the owner yelling at an employee for dropping something. Food was OK...
This was my first visit to Rocco's. I was visiting in Orlando and found it on Open Table. It was pretty much everything I expected. Greeted cheerfully by the owner, really good waiter, excellent service overall. I had a Veal Chop that was seasoned perfectly and cooked to my liking but it was very tough and fatty for Veal. Still good but a little chewy. My date had a Swordfish Risotto that was well made but the very strong 'fishy' taste of the fish dominated the dish and took away the great taste and preparation of the risotto. Would not order that again. We will return but want to try more of typical Italian dishes.
Have dined here at least 25 times in the past 2 years and every meal has been superbly prepared under the watchful eye of Rocco. Pasta is served the traditional Italian style -- al dente and Rocco does not over saturate the pasta with mountains of sauce. Rocco only serves fresh fish and if you love veal or beef, he has high quality provisions. One favorite in our family is the best eggplant parmigiana you've ever tasted. The head bartender is a perfectionist when making your favorite cocktail and the wine list is quite extensive and fairly priced. Service in very personable and attentive and you are not rushed. A great touch is the live entertainment which is not intrusive in the main dining area, but if you choose to get up and dance to the music in the lounge area, you won't be alone. And when you finish your meal, if you elect to spend some more time in the lounge to enjoy the music and maybe an after dinner drink, it is a great finale to a perfect dining experience in this wonderful spot.
Very odd night. First visit for us. My wife ordered a veal dish and was brought a chicken dish. Not realizing it she started eating it. She then told the waitress who apologized but took no action to correct it. We did not make a fuss but were rather shocked. The food came out of the kitchen much too quickly. We were the only ones in the restaurant so not sure what the rush was. We took our remaining wine home and found the cork laying in the bag. Luckily we did not tip the bottle.
The bread was great and my ravioli was tasty though not a generous portion.
I truly feel valued as a customer when I dine here. Rocco and staff are very concerned with your dining experience and strive to make it the best. Our server Scott made us feel as though we were his only table (and he was super busy). Food is delicious! I highly recommend trying Rocco's .
This is a tough review for me. One's view of this restaurant depend a lot on one's perspective. Let me begin with the good. The owners are nice and friendly and we were quickly escorted to a booth in the bar area which turned out to be a mistake. The service was decent, albeit a little slow at times. The food was good, not great, but good. If it were only the food that would determine if I would go back, I would. The pricing is fair.
The interior is very dated and in serious need of redecorating. It's dark and dreary and feels like something from the 70's, although it appeared clean. As you can see, the place gets high marks from most reviewers. I think the reason for this is the clientele. Granted, this was my only experience at this place, but I'm quite confident it is representative. At least 85% of the customers were over 65 with most well over that. It felt like eating at a retirement home. Then the music started. There was a guy with an organ and a woman who sang ballads from the 50's. At some point a few couples got up and started dancing in the bar area, although I'm not sure dancing is formally allowed there. All these people were in their 70's which really made it feel like an old folks home. I'm 70 so I can say this. It was all a bit goofy. I may not be all that far from being in an old folks home, but I really don't want the experience now when I go out to dinner. I prefer to hang out with younger people. or at least a mixed crowd. If you are in that age group and like going somewhere where most of the other people are around your age, then you may very well like this place. It clearly was not a place many people under 40 would go.
Lasagna was outstanding!! The bread and dipping sauce was amazing! I had the filet of steak with peppercorn sauce on top which was the special. It was the best steak I have ever had. Tiramisu was phonominal!! Service was fantastic. We will be back. Thankyou
I had driven by this place for years and finally went. So glad I did! While on 17/92, (Orlando stretch just north of Fairbanks and south of Morse) the front is tiny as the main enterance is on the side. We went early, 6 pm on a Friday, and got seated immediately. Rocco checked on us a couple of times and seems very friendly. Calamari appetizer with lightly battered peppers and zucchini was excellent. I really liked my veal Marsala and my wife enjoyed her fish. House Cab and Chardonnay were very nice and only $7.50/glass which was very fair. All told about $50/person total with tax and tip. I'm certain I'll be going back. Muscians were just setting up as we were leaving so don't know if they would have added to the ambience or not.
Reminds me of how Rick Steves says to find a place the locals go and enjoy. This certainly seems that kind of place. Buon appetito
Rocco's features excellent, authentic Italian food and attentive service. The food is consistently exceptional,. The owner often greets you at the door, and usually stops by your table to make sure that both the food and service meet your expectations. Do yourself a favor and go. You will be glad you did.
After 5 years we finally found an authentic Italian restaurant that we enjoy! This was our first dining experience at Rocco's, and it was wonderful. The food was delicious, and I must rave about the sauce, and fresh mozzarella! I had eggplant parm, and my husband had chicken parm, both of which were delicious and just the right portions. Our server Scott was attentive but not over bearing, very knowledgeable and friendly. If I had to come up with a concern, I would just say that I wish there had been more wine choices by the glass, and a couple of the specials and deserts that our server had mentioned turned out not to be available, even though we were one of the first diners of the day. Otherwise it was a great dining experience and we will definitely go back.
