The restaurant was almost completely empty except for the outdoor dining area (which is where we were seated and enjoyed). Despite liking the look outside, the dining was a bit awkward hunched around the firepit. Our waiter seemed anxious, was stumbling over his words a lot, and couldn't answer basic questions about what beers were on tap (like a name? or style?), even after he went back to check with the bar. The food was OK, but nothing particularly memorable or exciting. We had one dish that was pretty tasty, but most of the others (especially the vegetarian items) were really bland and overpriced. Overall, we would definitely not return. For a Saturday night, it was a sleepy vibe and less impressive on all accounts than we would have hoped for.

We always want to be impressed by a new place but this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had in recent memory. The service was so slow, the scrambled eggs had to be sent back because they were over cooked. The potatoes were cold and had to be sent back. we had to ask several times for catsup and ice tea. 20 minutes would go by without seeing a server.

Thid is a wonderful find in our neighborhood. The outdoor seating is beautiful and inviting. There was a lot of variation in small plates, each one a gem. We loved the Manchego cheese and the shrimp. We want to go back. Two minuses: the noise from the pool distracts from the ambiance and the foliage up against the back seating needs to be cut back. Orlando was a great server even though he was swamped.

Tinto was in its last day of existence when we dined there, and the short-timer attitude of the staff was painfully obvious. We were relegated to the few wines left in the bar--unless we wanted to spring for a $140 Rioja-- despite being shown a full list on the menu. Though the dishes we ordered were very nicely presented, the punch of flavor we expected (from a previous visit) was a mere whisper. We are really sorry they were not the great restaurant we remembered, but if they had continued in this vein, we would not have returned. We wish the replacement business luck and will give them a fair trial when they open.

We tried a number of dishes and shared - everything was terrific. Tomato and beet salad, flat iron steak, brussel sprout salad....each item had a unique and delicious flavor. Good wines. Beautiful place.

Great meal! Valentine pre-fix menu with wine pairing at the outdoor fire pit. Service was delightful and attentive. Only drawback was not being able to hear the blues guitarist in the bar.

Decided to avoid the usual suspects for Valentine's Day dinner. The small plates at Tinto were great. The octopus and stuffed dates were a tablewide favorite. The low ceilings and tile floors could not muffle the noise. Tables in the room we were in were close together and the bass beating through the walls from El Jefe made dinner conversation a challenge.

We had been to the restaurant before and were expecting to order the Valentine's Day special menu with wine pairings, and sit in the lovely dining room. Instead we got a cramped table in the bar, and ordered tapas, leaving early. Food was great. Tae was bad.

This was our second visit to Tinto's in Palm Springs. The second visit was even more appreciated than the first. This time we were seated in the very lovely outdoor area. Booths and tables under canvas shelter with radiant heaters when it is cool at night. There were also seating areas surrounding fire pits. The food was outstanding both times. We love the small plate options. The service was extremely good the ambiance was romantic. Great for us to celebrate Valentine Day and our 24th wedding anniversary.

The restaurant is apparently about to close to reopen as some kind of a Mexican restaurant. They seem to have stopped buying things. Of the fifteen or so Spanish wines on the list at this Spanish restaurant they only had one , not very interesting, bottle. We filled in with a decent Argentine Malbec. The food was okay Spanish Tapas, not the best we have ever had. The ambience was blah. The server was trying hard. Overall, it was a "why bother" kind of place.

The lighting was too direct for a restaurant of this caliber - pod lights point right at your table from above, which made our table too bright and the next table completely dark. Also, music was down so low and tables to close together (did I mention the lighting?!?) that it felt at once loud and quiet as we could hear all the wrong noises (conversation at the next table, orders placed, waitress correctly using "corner" behind us) and none of the right ones (our own conversation ONLY and some tunes). Food was okay, although I was surprised that the dates were room temp and we had to ask for them twice (after ordering them first and not receiving them by the end of the meal).

Great service, delicious food, nice ambience -- low light and very romantic. We got the chef's tasting menu which was a TON of food and a very good deal vs. ordering a la carte. We thought the food was absolutely delicious and were totally delighted by all the items that came to the table.

This place has some great tapas.
Definite must-haves are the pork belly, the gambas and the sprouts

Some dishes are a bit under-sIzed for their price though. For example the cured ham is only 6 little slivers for arpund $10

If the prices were a bit more modest then I would rate this place a five

We had a romantic evening on a cool night on the outdoor patio, thanks to being warmed by heaters and firepit tables. The menu, although limited in scope, delivered a tastebud treat with each new tapa that was delivered by a great service staff and our foodie guide, Allen. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Door to patio left open made it uncomfortably cold. Asked repeatedly for staff to close the door. Waiters couldn't remember which course had been served to us and three times asked what we had been served. The food CANNOT be better. Each course was magnificent. Back of house BRAVO. Front of house get a manager with eyes and ears.

We were so impressed with every aspect of Tinto on Christmas night. Though the proximity of the tables were a little bit "cozy," that turned out to be fun as we met some new people. The food was delicious, our server Jolee was amazing. She had recommendations that we didn't even consider, like suggesting we try a sampling of all the cheeses instead of just one for the same price. The wines are quite pricey, being familiar with the retail price, but we found a gem of a Spanish red wine that we will be searching for in the future. Next visit to Palm Springs will definitely include a stop at Tinto, even if we don't stay at Saguaro Palms.

 (Palm Springs)·Dined on November 6, 2015

My husband and I had dinner at Tinto on a Friday night in November. The small plate offerings ALL looked interesting and the nightly specials sounded great as well. We ended up choosing several different things. Our favorites were the nightly special beet salad and the potatoes. The salad had lots of different textures and flavors that complimented each other so well- truly yummy. The potatoes were lightly seasoned (NOT over salted) and lightly breaded before a quick fry that made them crunchy on the outside, but nicely cooked potato texture on the inside. The sauces with each offering were different and all delicious- each complimenting its respective dish.
The service was good, but we had empty drinks for about 5 minutes before our server asked if he could get us another glass of wine- this took away a star in the service rating.
The ambience was OK, but cramped seating made personal conversations impossible (I learned far too much about how the gentlemen sitting at the table next to us were wooing clients, dealing with an adult daughter not liking his present girlfriend, wanting to work on their golf games more... You get the picture...). In addition, all the surfaces are hard, so sound travels easily and bounces around.
Overall, the food was so good that I would go there again?

My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary here an were not disappointed in any way. Our server, Vic, was amazing: extremely knowledgable about the menu, able to guide us on selection and order of food and drink pairings, attentive, and very personable. The food and cocktails were very unique and all outstanding! Loved their gin and tonic! The small plates make it a fun experience to get to try many items on the menu! Outside patio was closed that night due to rain, but looks like a fun patio spot. We both highly recommend Tinto and will definitely return!

We had the best margarita we ever had. It had a wonderful citrus flavor. Our waiter was very good and explaining the menu and the bar menu too. He was very knowledgeable. Next time we want to sit outside. The tables inside are a little close together.

My wife and I went to Tinto for our anniversary. This was the 2nd time we have dined there; the 1st being over a year ago. They have changed space of the restaurant, adding a wall where there was not one before. We were immediately seated, but the table was not only small (especially for a tapas restaurant) but also about 2 feet from tables on each side of us. Our waitress immediately saw the disappointed look on our faces and asked us if we would like another table. She moved us to the back room, which was formerly the main dining area. It was completely empty and dark. She turned up the lights and sat us. At first it was unnerving, but I have to say that it was one of the most peaceful, serene and romantic dinners we have had in a long time. From then on - everything was spectacular. We both got the tasting menus, just as we did on our first trip. And my wife got the wine pairing. I cannot say enough about the food. It is ALL fantastic. But the service was truly outstanding. Service that I have not seen in years. I would highly recommend this restaurant. And if you have any issues, let your server know. I bet they will take care of it.

It is always hard to tell if this is just an off night or a trend. We did the tasting menu which started off fine with olives and almonds followed by a nice twice cooked potato dish. Sadly it went down hill from there. The food was uninspired, flavors were not distinct, the dishes simply were not good enough. Too much food which does not make up for food that isn't that good. The dessert creme brulle was very good, just to mention.

Service was odd. The waiter asked questions, answered them himself then wandered off to another table. Most of the time was spent mentioning that this dish or another was featured at the James Beard house. I have to say I really hoped that wasn't true.

I was excited to try Tinto and sad with the result

Our waiter ruined the experience. He was dull and he was not very courteous. Didn't pick up our menus off of our tiny little table (I looked around and everyone else's was picked up), forgot to put in an order and didn't own up to it, didn't bring us the complimentary bread bowl. Another waiter kept bumping into me and did not apologize one time. Horrible service.

We shared the Manchego which was served with some pistachio honey and membrillo and some ultra tender Jamon Serrano. They were obviously well sourced and divine. We followed with an Olive bowl and an order of the Pulpo which was one of the most tender preparations of Octopus I have ever tasted. We then had the flat iron steak with Salsa Verde which was good but not great and followed with the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with Idiazibal cheese and a Marcona almond. Omg those were so good! There was wonderful service and they allowed me to BYO a bottle of 2009 Seniorio de Nava Ribera del Duero Riserva.

...the food just wasn't that good, or as good as a Iron Chef restaurant should be. Everything tasted like it needed a bit more spice or a bit more authenticity. I've had great simple Spanish food before but this definitely missed the mark. Some dishes were fine (the shrimp and octopus) but a bit on the small side. And some just didn't work – we were told the white rice with vegetables and manchego was like a risotto. It wasn't.

Drinks were fine. But there were other issues. We sat at 8:00pm and didn't order drinks til 8:30pm. The front room also has awkward fluorescent white lighting – we almost asked to be moved to the back room that has more low orange-colored mood lighting, but there didn't seem to be any tables for 2 back there. Also, the seating appears to be some sort of pleather which doesn't do well in the Palm Springs heat. My wife and I had to put out napkins under legs to ease the sweating. Our shorts were soaked with sweat by the time we walked out.

Also, I had noted in the reservation I made through the Open Table app that it was my wife's birthday. I had called a couple hours before just to confirm that as well. But no one seemed to acknowledge that until we were ordering dessert and couldn't make up our minds – I insisted my wife pick because it was her birthday. The waitress/host realized this and said the dessert would be complimentary. We chose the donuts but were given creme brûlée with a candle it in. We reminded the waitress/host that we chose the donuts so she gave us both desserts on the house. The desserts actually were the highlight of our meal.

We dined here for my wife's birthday and as much as we wanted to like it we just can't recommend it with this current menu. The lighting needs to be more subdued, the seating changed and the food needs to be improved. The old menu was much larger and looked great, but this new one just wasn't that tasty.

Hopefully things will change and we can give this place another try.
