Roast - A Michael Symon Restaurant
The food and service was outstanding. The beef cheek peirogies were amazing, the scallops were seared to perfection and the brussel sprouts will make you eat your vegetables.
However, the table by the kitchen needs to be removed. The traffic going to and coming from the kitchen was distracting and left a cool breeze in the air as the staff rushed by the table.
I would still go back because I loved the food, but would not settle again with the seating.
So F'g horrible. The entire table's entrees had to be returned because they were unacceptable. Soggy trout skin, raw cold hanger steak, and HORRIBLE PASTA that COAGULATED WHILE EATING. Ineffectual server Amy and pathetic Manager. Eat at the pizza shop around the corner. Yuck, gross, refused.
We've eaten here on four prior occasions. This time we brought friends who had never been. We were excited to impress them. The restaurant was not busy at all on a Saturday night. The server was not engaging with us or our guests, however she was okay. The food however was rely below par for this restaurant. Our tomato salads were truly horrible. Terrible quality of mushy tasteless tomatoes with little salt or seasoning. After waiting for 20 minutes for our entrees, the server came to tell us that the kitchen got backed up and it would be another 15 minutes. Simply unacceptable on a non-busy night.
The chicken dish was mediocre at best bordering on dry and with too many competing flavors to enjoy. My guest's rib eye was cooked as he liked it, but again, he confided to me the next day that it was simply okay and he wouldn't go back to have it. All in all, we were disappointed with a meal of this cost.
The finest steak in the Metro Detroit area! A medium plus filet with zip sauce with brussel sprouts is indescribably tender and delicious! Worth every penny!
My wife and i dined in at this awesome restaurant for our 18 year anniversary. From the moment we walked in the service was impeccable. Close attention was kept on the fact it was our 18 year anniversary. Especially from our waiter BRANDON! Quite possibly the best service we have ever had from any one waiter in our lives. He was on top of everything. Just awesome.
As for the food, my wife and i both agreed it was possibly the single greatest meal we have ever had. The pork belly appetizer was like none other. Salad spot on. And steak just melted in our mouths with flavor.
Thank you Roast for the best anniversary meal and dining experience ever!
Service awesome, food delicious, drinks tasty. Need I say anything more!?
If I would have gotten this steak at longhorn or Outback, I would have said it was ok. However, that steak would have been 1/4th the price. At $330 for two, I expected the best. A dry aged ribeye? Certainly it was not. A ribeye is the most flavorful cut. Aging enhances the flavor more. A thick cut, allows for a perfect medium rare with a good sear to the outside. And of course, a choice cut must be selected with an even marbling and no gristle. These are the makings of a good steak, one would expect from a top end steakhouse. None of these qualities were present in the steak received. It had no flavor, was gristly, thin and in no way did it have the flavor of being aged. My review is not bad because the meal was terrible, it was an ok to good meal, mid range to my 58 years of experience loving steaks. My review is bad because I chose a steakhouse in this price range to treat my love to an excellent meal. This was not even close to that experience. Very disappointed.
Lovely evening with attentive service and great food and beverages. Sazeracand wine.
It was a very nice place for my wife and I. Server was very knowledgeable about the menu. Best steak I’ve ever had
We were unexpectedly seated in the VIP ROOM which made the experience even more special.
Went to celebrate my birthday. Ribeye steak is my favorite and it was awesome. Had the bone marrow appetizer for the first time and it was delicious - so glad we finally tried it. The only regret was they no longer have the smashed small potatoes and the crispy potatoes weren’t nearly as good. Kevin was our server and he was EXCELLENT! Still my favorite restaurant downtown! ❤️
Just a great selection of happy hour items and bartenders were attentive and helpful for picking out great cocktails
This was the fifth time at Roast and it was very good, not great. My wife and I shared the Ribeye special that included fries and a small salad. We supplement it with a chopped salad and brussel sprouts. Food was prepared as ordered. We had strawberry shortcake and the tiramisu bomb for dessert. Tiramisu was excellent. Shortcake, so, so. Overall, the food was very good. Service was good, but not exceptional. Felt like the staff was going through the motions. It didn’t feel like an exceptional dining experience, maybe because the ambience is a bit bland.
Excellent experience but when there are $$$$ in your description there cant be any misses. The mussels although small was superb. The ribeyes were the best we have ever had and the trout was very good. The wild boar pasta was a worthy experience but wouldnt be repeated. The side dish of Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes were excellent. The only miss was the Caesar salad. The couple that ordered the salad remarked that there was too much dressing that was weak in flavor. We had the chick pea salad and it was very good. We’ll return for more steak and to try the chicken and pork chops.
This is still by far the BEST restaurant in Detroit, probably in the entire state to be honest. Service is always amazing. Ken the waiter is the best always on top of everything! Food is always out of this world. Can’t say enough great things about this place, we love it here and can’t wait to come back!
Thanks for making our 50th anniversary celebration a success!
We had bones in our Beef Pirogi and the steak was very Sinewy. They did take the pirogi off the bill.
We would not be back or recommend this restaurant
The food was fabulous. Waiter recommended excellent appetizers. Steak was tender and flavorful and scallops melted in your mouth
The place is nice but I was disappointed with food. Very small portions for the amount of food. Pork Belly was mostly fat and food wasn’t good overall.
A bit underwhelming. Service was good but the food was nothing special. Oysters were fine, but didn’t care for tomatoey dip or whatever it was-It had zero flavor.
Scallops were beautifully presented but slightly undercooked.
Best part were the Brussel sprouts.
Typically scallops are a good option even in a steakhouse. Not this time.
Amazing together with friends out of town.
Great experience for our first time. I recommend the filet.
Everything was perfect. Food was cooked just as ordered. Delicious
Outstanding. We were greeted right away, seated promptly and a waiter was quick to fill our waters and give a quick tutorial on their drink list tablet. Everything was seamless and the food was second to none. My fiancé chose the scallops with Brussels sprouts while I had the filet mignon with rosemary fries. Everything was perfectly prepared and the evening couldn’t have gone better. Thank you Roast and your team for an unforgettable dining experience. We will be back very soon
Kevin our waiter was amazing. Food and wine were nice
Awesome steaks and salads and wines! May be the best ribeye I’ve ever had!
Was just ok
The location was convenient, the atmosphere was great. The food was spectacular, our waiter was kind, knowledgeable about the food and my date was PERFECT!😊
28th Wedding Anniversary and we will be back 5Stars!
The restaurant is well designed and very pleasant. The food was rather good, albeit a bit pricey for the total experience. The service was just OK at the very best. There seemed to be an unnecessarily pretentious approach taken by our server, which really just did not sit well with either of us. It could have been a fun, relaxing evening but our waiter just did not make that happen.
We have eaten at many Michael Symon restaurants and have almost always had an amazing meal and experience. That’s why we booked this place. This was a different experience for us though. We left feeling disappointed.
Amazing! The dinner and the ambiance was simply amazing!
Amazing food and atmosphere, definitely coming back
The first steak that was brought out was not mine. When I finally got my actual order, the steak was barely warm. I was disappointed after hearing such great things about the restaurant. The wait staff was wonderful and the drinks were great. Would go back to sit at the bar.
One of our favorite restaurants to indulge ourselves. Always a special occasion and always feel welcomed. This is the type of food you take a bite, sit back in your seat and just go "OMG". The filet with crab bearnaise is by far the best steak I have ever had. If valeting - make sure to provide your ticket when you check-in. A bit of back and forth with that aspect but otherwise a very awesome experience.
Great food, marrow appetizer was great and the spinach feta au gratin was fabulous. Steaks as usual were great!
Excellent steaks, cooked to perfection!
I ordered the Ribeye medium rare. The server suggested 5 degrees over medium rare in order to melt the marbleing. Never heard of that befor but I took his suggestion. It worked!
We started with the Beef Cheek Pierogi Appetizer. It was a great way to kick off this wonderful meal. Extremely flavorful in every bite. We next shared the asparagus salad with smoked ham vinaigrette. I couldn’t really taste the ham or smokiness in the vinaigrette but it was still a refreshing salad. My husband got the Ribeye and I got the Filet Oscar style. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and perfectly seasoned. The crab on my Oscar was sweet succulent and HUGE. We got the crispy potatoes which were a play on salt and vinegar fries. Delicious!!
This restaurant was a bucket list event for me. I admire and respect Chef Symon so much that his and Chef Morimoto are the only 2 chefs whose restaurant is a must for me to attend. We are lower middle income earners so this was a once in a lifetime event for us. We travelled over 200 miles to eat here.
The food was fantastic, the service was perfect, the environment was as expected, very pleasant. Unfortunately, about midmeal a table of 15 or 16 young twenty year olders, dressed casually entered the dining room, and behaved as one would expect to see at a football game or hooters. They were seated 5 feet away from us, so there was no way to escape the raucousness.
The back section of the restaurant remained empty. They should have been removed to the back location so as not to interfere with the rest of us in the main dining room, esp. since they obviously were never taught how to behave in this environment. A table for 20 should not be next to intimate tables for 2. This did indeed negatively impact our experience, and those around us. It was unfortunate.
Please update your website.
Food was delicious. Wait staff took their time to recommend a dish or drink, and answered questions well. Overall a great meal and service! Would definitely go again.
