Roaring Fork - Downtown, Congress Ratings and Reviews
Food overall was very good; however, we do have the following comments. I was disappointed that the almonds on my rainbow trout were not cooked in the brown butter sauce as I would have expected. They seemed to have been tossed on almost as an afterthought. Additionally, my husband's salmon was almost sushi grade in the middle which was less than ideal for him (it was a very thick piece for a filet though).
The food was fabulous! The blackened red fish was special. Service was great.
Austin traffic was really bad and they held our reservation in spite of being 15-20 minutes late. So glad I had a reservation, there would have been a 45 minute wait otherwise on a Wednesday.
My client loved it!
We came on a Sunday evening, visiting from Wisconsin. Terrific food. I had super rich short ribs served over mashed potatoes. The meal had begun with little corn meal muffins, easily the best corn bread we had ever tasted. Nice wine selection aided by a knowledgeable and quietly efficient waiter. The overall experience was simply wonderful.
We were taking family pictures downtown and wanted a nice dinner afterwards. Roaring fork was a hit the last time we ate there, so why not.
We had reservations for 530pm. We show up, we get sat, and the booth is entirely to small for my wife’s comfort. She doesn’t like tight spaces.
We asked to be moved and the hostess who sat us said she would see as they were “very busy”. The head hostess came out and moved us to a better table, would have loved a window seat, but none the less they made us happy.
The food was great, the dessert was good, and again our experience was awesome.
Three wives of college frat brothers having dinner out. We enjoyed wine and appetizers and then requested an entrée (one entrée) to be served family style because we may have ordered too many appetizers! Our server was very accommodating and did just what we asked. We plan a return visit next year.
The service was very good. All of the food was good and prepared well. We did have one couple who are vegan and one has food allergies. There was very little on the menu to accommodate this need. We told the waitress that this party is lactose intolerant, and the potatoes still was serves with cheese all over the top.
Good selection of entrees. Apparently the hamburger is the star as the table next to us order 8 of them. We ordered 3 different items, one of which came as a servers recommendation was short ribs which was all fatty and quite disappointing. Since the portions were large enough we shared. Our server was very apologetic. Nice atmosphere overall.
We chose to eat here during our stay in Austin. The waiter was pleasant, but unfortunately we felt terribly rushed with the service and pace of the dinner. Considering our reservation was for 6pm, we arrived 7 minutes late due to city traffic and not seeing the valet by the restaurant. We had to call to find out the valet was located around the corner from the entrance.
We hadn’t even gotten settled in our seats and had additional place settings removed before we we approached, twice, regarding a drink order. With drinks, apps, 2 main courses, we had the bill in 50 minutes!!! Great if we were in a hurry; not great for a relaxing dinner.
One issue was the heavy- handed use of black pepper on the trout and green beans dinner. While I take some responsibility for not asking when I ordered, the menu did not describe this for the dish. The plate was not merely finished with seasoning, as another waitstaff remarked when it was called to her attention. She then said, “ they season the food”.
The other main course was very good, but the peppered plate ruined and rush ruined this experience.
We stayed at the Stephen F Austin hotel where Roaring Forks has a location and decided to try it out. We were impressed by the friendly bar staff and great Happy Hour drink pricing but dinner was an unexpected surprise! Our server Cameron provided outstanding service! We chose light meals (pork carnitas and fish tacos with Mahi) and both were Delicious! It was my birthday so the restaurant gave us a free dessert. We chose chocolate pecan pie with ice cream and it was Divine! We’d definitely recommend Roaring Forks very highly based on our visit!
We were in town for two nights and this was one place we tried. Service staff was great. Steak was very good. Mushrooms, however, were so salty neither of us could eat them. Fish tacos were good but not out of this world.i liked it well enough, but probably won’t be back.
It was my boyfriends birthday and Roaring forks made it perfect. The service was excellent. They were constantly checking on us to see if we needed anything and refilling our drinks. We even got a free cheese cake with a happy birthday notation and a candle. Loved it!
Tried this place out for the first time to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The staff here is amazing! They pay attention to detail, meet their guests request and the food is to live for!
We got the short ribs and bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and the meat was extremely tender and savory. The green chili mac n cheese was a great side dish.
This is the perfect place to treat a loved one or even host a business dinner.
The food was amazing and reasonably priced but for a restaurant with a utensil in the name I kind of figured they would have a greater focus on that, pork chop came out with a butter knife and Mac and cheese appetizer was forgotten but besides that the places was great!!!
The food was great. We got the Green Chili Pork for an appetizer and it was delicious. Even so, the entrees overshadowed the appetizer. The fish tacos had a great presentation and were quite delectable. The fish was fresh and firm and flaky and the seasonings and toppings were well proportioned. The blackened redfish was outstanding. The sauce and the rice and the fish were all prepared well and the flavors worked well together. The smoked tomatoes were not only fragrant but also delicious. The server was friendly and accommodating!
