Roaring Fork - Downtown, Congress Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Roaring Fork for years, normally for lunch. It was my birthday celebration and family visiting from out of town that led to our reservation at The Roaring Fork. We arrived a little bit early, so they sat us about 30 minutes before our reservation. The food, drinks, dessert and service were all perfect.
It is a very nice looking restaurant. But the food is way overcooked and way over priced. The trout and the chicken were both dry as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. The pork chop had too many fatty, inedible bites. And something I have never before experienced in a nice restaurant, very loose chair legs that had us reaching to find the screws holding the chairs together.
We booked our holiday lunch for 8 two (2) weeks in advance for 1:00pm on a Thursday. We were assured dining room seating would not be delayed.
We arrived early at 12:30 with gifts to ensure we were on time and could set up properly. The hostess tried to seat us in the bar. We decliined and explained this was a holiday lunch booked for the dining room.
Finally, at 1:30 after waiting patiently in chairs in the dining room, we were seated at 1:30pm. I don’t recommend this restaurant for any party over the size of 4 people.
We went here for a dinner date, and we were really excited to try it. We went to the bar and waited for our table with a cocktail. When we got to our table, we waited 30 minutes without anyone coming over to greet or serve us. We timed it because it was so crazy, but after 30 minutes we got up and left. We told the hostess stand what happened, and they really didn’t seem to mind. Such a bummer, but we definitely won’t be going back to try it again.
We've been going here for years. At a minimum for our Anniversary.
Skipped a couple and returned to the same great experience.
If you are so inclined, don't skip the Bloody Orange Margarita. Especially if Raymond makes it.
Stopped on our way home to pick up the ingredients we lacked to continue the experience.
One of the very few places I can say we have never been disappointed. Ever!
Six of us "pre-boarded" at 6:30 for an 8:00 concert at the Paramount. Made reservation three weeks prior with Open Table and Andy called to confirm reservation the day of (very reassuring since there were six in group). We were coming from multiple cities in four vehicles so some arrived a few minutes early and were still seated right away. Server Jenny was delightful and did an outstanding job of helping us with drinks, appetizers and meal in plenty of time to walk next door for the show. The food was outstanding and served at a perfect pace so no one felt rushed. The menu is diverse so everyone can find something that works for them. Will definitely return to this location. Oh, and they have valet which is another great perk when dining downtown.
Food overall was very good; however, we do have the following comments. I was disappointed that the almonds on my rainbow trout were not cooked in the brown butter sauce as I would have expected. They seemed to have been tossed on almost as an afterthought. Additionally, my husband's salmon was almost sushi grade in the middle which was less than ideal for him (it was a very thick piece for a filet though).
The food was fabulous! The blackened red fish was special. Service was great.
Austin traffic was really bad and they held our reservation in spite of being 15-20 minutes late. So glad I had a reservation, there would have been a 45 minute wait otherwise on a Wednesday.
My client loved it!
We came on a Sunday evening, visiting from Wisconsin. Terrific food. I had super rich short ribs served over mashed potatoes. The meal had begun with little corn meal muffins, easily the best corn bread we had ever tasted. Nice wine selection aided by a knowledgeable and quietly efficient waiter. The overall experience was simply wonderful.
We were taking family pictures downtown and wanted a nice dinner afterwards. Roaring fork was a hit the last time we ate there, so why not.
We had reservations for 530pm. We show up, we get sat, and the booth is entirely to small for my wife’s comfort. She doesn’t like tight spaces.
We asked to be moved and the hostess who sat us said she would see as they were “very busy”. The head hostess came out and moved us to a better table, would have loved a window seat, but none the less they made us happy.
The food was great, the dessert was good, and again our experience was awesome.
Three wives of college frat brothers having dinner out. We enjoyed wine and appetizers and then requested an entrée (one entrée) to be served family style because we may have ordered too many appetizers! Our server was very accommodating and did just what we asked. We plan a return visit next year.
The service was very good. All of the food was good and prepared well. We did have one couple who are vegan and one has food allergies. There was very little on the menu to accommodate this need. We told the waitress that this party is lactose intolerant, and the potatoes still was serves with cheese all over the top.
Good selection of entrees. Apparently the hamburger is the star as the table next to us order 8 of them. We ordered 3 different items, one of which came as a servers recommendation was short ribs which was all fatty and quite disappointing. Since the portions were large enough we shared. Our server was very apologetic. Nice atmosphere overall.
