Roadhouse Boulder Depot
The hostess is absolutely one of the sweetest and nicest people around!
Excellent food in an historic location with a very modern look
Solid. Pricey and loud. Beet Hummus is fantastic but not enough veggie slices and pita/flatbread pieces. Decent happy hour.
Sadly, I've tried hard to like the Depot. The food is mostly ok, or sometimes even good. The beer selection is good. The style and concept of giving the old train depot this new life is great. But he service has always been slow and disorganized, and it can get really noisy in there. Today we went there for brunch thinking that if we went to somewhere like Walnut Cafe we might have to wait on a list. Since The Roadhouse Depot is on OpenTable I figured making a reservation would be a better option given that I was bringing my 80 something in-laws out for brunch. We were seated right away, but still waited 62 minutes for our food. The place was humming with non-stop trips of folks who were partaking in the "bottomless mimosas" they offer on Sundays. I'm sure that works to bring people into the restaurant, but it also kinda takes over the whole scene. I wonder if it even pays off financially beacuse it seems to slow down the table turnover as folks stay long enough to get hammered, but only order a normal amount of food. That's the reason for why it was loud it was in there. I'm not opposed to places with cheap drinks, but I guess this places should really be thought of as a bar more than a serious restaurant.
I should note, the wait staff at the Depot are nice enough. They seem to be regularly put in a tough spot by a management who can't get all the staffing right relative to how busy they can get (job 1 in running a restaurant) and who's not training the staff well for dealing with the pretty normal situations that arise (for example if you're going to make people wait an hour for food, bring them something to nosh on). I can't believe they didn't think of this or even offer. Isn't this why restaurants have bread or chips and salsa, etc? To buy the kitchen some time?
They did apologize and took $20 off our bill, but for their planning they should consider that many customers would be willing to pay more than full fare and have better service.
Poor and slow service. Pretzel bites with cold and lumpy queso. Fatty wings. Tasteless burger. Short rib enchiladas with only 8 bites of meat. And a filet ordered medium that had to be cooked three times so it literally wasn’t raw. And the worst - I have a teen with a hidden disability who needs a straw. Instead of the waitress just bringing a draw we got a lecture about environmentalism. When I told her some people with disabilities need straws she told me we should bring our own.
Overall the service was good. Table seating was a little uncomfortable. I felt spaced apart from my companion yet very close to the tables on each side of us. That along with noise level made it impossible to share any type of conversation. Food was mediocre at best and priced high for serving size. I don't think I'd visit again.
Good food, prompt service, nice atmosphere. I will go back to this place.
We loved our server Chris. The food was great . The noise level was impossible. We parked behind and got a ticket. No warning or directional signs.
Casual, open feel with yummy food. A great place to eat on the patio or watch a game.
The food is great and enjoyed their happy hour too.
very nice, lovely food, good location, good friends
The Roadhouse Boulder Depot is always a great spot for happy hour! A generously diverse happy hour menu (both food and drinks), super reasonable prices, and pay parking around and adjacent to the restaurant are all reasons to stop in! When it does get busy, the service tends to lag just a bit - but not much more than would be expected during a great happy hour anywhere. The Baked Brie is amazing, as are the Brussels Sprouts. The Onion Dip is also a great share plate for the table! The beer and wine selection are good and the restaurant also has a great selection of well-crafted mixed drinks! I would definitely recommend checking out this restaurant!
Sat on patio, perfect weather, food was great and just very relaxed. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was flavorless and uninspired. A simple fast food joint like Five Guys makes a significantly better burger and for a quarter of the cost.
We love The Depot- one of our fav places to gather with family, friends or just the two of us.
Had gotten recommendations for brunch here but even though the restaurant was empty, they sat us near the back door and service area where there was a lot of wind from outside and traffic in and out that door and to the computers next to our table.
Coffee was terrible.
Food was good but very rich. Waitress heard my order wrong and just insisted on that was it.
Been there for a dinner and it was fine, I'm guessing they're just figuring out brunch and its slow.
This place is great! Been here on many occasions and food and service is excellent.
Food was great. Chips were awesome. Huge gluten-free menu. Turned music down for us. Reasonable prices.
pretty good place, decent food and service. great views from patio. parking is a hassle
Wonderful experience for a difficult table.
Our party was two seniors with narrower palates, a third with gluten AND dairy constraints, and the waitstaff succeeded in making everyone happy and contented. The knowledge of menu choices was excellent, as was the modifications to the drinks menu that evening. The timing of the dishes was right on, all of the food was just terrific - with strong emphasis on those tastes being emphasized as anticipated. Great place for a casual meal or a large group, but be prepared to find parking.
Lemon chicken was great. Yummy Brussel sprouts appetizer.
We were seated at a table that was fine to start not was soon blasted in the sun. They would not close the patio door that was letting the sun in. We were miserable from the heat and the bright sun. The food may have been good but we couldn’t enjoy it. Ruined was could have been a nice visit to a new spot for us.
The only reason I did not give a our star rating was due to a situation with getting us seated. We had a reservation but apparently the people at table that was assigned to us hadn't left yet. The hostess suggested we sit outside which we were open to as the noise level is much more tolerable. However, it had rained about an hour before and the restaurant neglected to dry off the table and chairs and were not in any rush to do so.
First, it is important to note that the two previous times we have eaten here we had an excellent experience both with service and food quality. This time, however, was a disaster in terms of service and disappointing in terms of food.... We were seated immediately but waited 10 minutes to see our waitress who brought by water but did not take our drink order. We waited another 10 minutes (seriously) before she returned to take a drink order. After another 5-10 minutes we were talking about leaving before we finally asked a manager passing by to check on our drink order and he came back with the beer which had obviously been sitting for awhile. Doing the math that is about 25 minutes from being seated to finally getting a beer. Our waitress reappeared after drinks were delivered and took our order. We waited another 25 minutes for our food (burgers - not hard to make) before asking the same manager to check on our order. About 5 minutes later barely warm food appeared with one burger missing items on it. After the food was delivered I had to get up to find forks, knives , and napkins so we could eat the food which was delivered one hour after we arrived. Getting the check paid took just as long with me finally having to go up to the hostess stand to get the bill paid. It took three of us 2 hours to have a burger and a beer. I am hoping this is an aberration because this has not happened in the past and maybe they were just having an off night despite the place being only half full with people.
Unless you really like beets I would skip the beet hummus...my favs are the Brie, mushroom pizza, and Brussels sprouts.
Good food. Service was a bit slow
It was really a fun charismatic venue. Really enjoyed it. The burgers were fabulous!
Second time here. Was excellent as always but they were out of quite a few things. A disappointment to say the least.
Food is great bur service needed some help. We were sat at a table that wasn't wiped down, we had to ask for silverware several times after receiving food, and had to ask for a box several times that was also reciprocated with an eyeroll when we asked again by a server. Could be great if the service staff were actually attentive and thoughtful.
Made reservations for mother’s day . After an hour the waitress said the kitchen was backed up. We got there at 12:30 and had nearby facials at 2. She rushed the food and we got it at 1:35 so we put lunch in to go boxes and had to leave. The lunch was waived but I didn’t get the leisurely lunch with my daughter that we were looking forward to. This is the 5th time since it opened that I have been there and the same thing happens. I thought that surely t would be better by now. Nope. Never trying it again.
Here's the deal. Food is consistently ok - good...service is consistency, slow. Has been since day one. They never seem to have enough floor staff. The vibe of the place is enjoyable, likely the only reason we keep returning. So, if you are prepared for slow service and want a good cocktail in pleasant environment, go. If you are in a rush or slow service makes you nuts...don't go!
Food was great. Service was not. They had someone who “took too long to eat” at our table and continued to seat parties behind us at other open tables. They eventually compromised by seating us on the downstairs level, which wasn’t open, alone. Would come back on a day that isn’t busy for good food.
I normally love this place. Food was good (love the Impossible Burger and Watermelon Caprese) and love the atmosphere (historical features and photos). The service this evening was so poor it ruined our experience with our friends (who were visiting from out of town). Our server was slow, forgetful, neglected to refill our water, almost dropped dishes on me, seemed confused, sat down to take our order, messed up our final bill and was rarely checking on our table. She was also bartending at the same time and complained to us about how many people she had to serve. Disappointed they don't comp for parking anymore. This used to be one of my favorite places and not sure when I'll return.
Have eaten at the Roadhouse Boulder Depot three times now, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite "go to" restaurants in the area. Love the atmosphere, food is creative and very good, and prices are moderate. On this particular visit, the service was a bit slow. The server was very engaging and attentive, but it just seemed to take a long time between the appetizers and the entrees. Still, a very positive experience. Definitely recommended.
We don’t get to Boulder very often, but wanted to stay for dinner while up there picking up a bike rack. We chose this because the menu looked good, and the food didn’t disappoint. We were one of very few couples, many more groups of 6-12 seemed to dominate. As a result, we were in a corner and out of sight. The appetizers came about 3 min ahead of the meal, which was a long wait for appetizers but not for the entrees. Our waitress comped us the appetizers, which was very nice. All in all, dang good food, groups seem to be popular. We arrived at 5:15 on a Friday evening, and by 6:30 things were busy with lots of folks waiting for a good dinner.
Love this place. Service was a little slow because they were so busy but otherwise good food and service.
Kids with parents that won’t make them behave in public
Food was so-so, potato chip nachos came out cold, ribeye steak was overcooked and rubbery, and of course the dessert we ordered was "out." Our waitress interrupted frequently and made us feel rushed. We spent $100 for 2 people (and of course you have to pay for parking); definitely not worth that or the drive. I'm baffled by the great reviews, maybe they just had an off Saturday night. Will not come back here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone I know.
Bad service and the the food was not good.
The worst chicken wings I ever had, they forgot the blue cheese dressing for the wings and took a long time to get it.
I got the tuna bowl, very little tuna.
They don’t validate parking, avoid this restos you can
This was our third time here. Our friends loved their JAM burgers and I enjoyed my salad with grilled shrimp. The Brussels sprouts app tasted of the duck sauce you get at bad Chinese restaurants, unfortunately, but the pretzel app is always good. We had fruit cobbler for dessert, and it was overly sweet. Our waitstaff was friendly and good humored. This is a fun place to come occasionally.
