This is by far one of the best restaurants we have been to. Everything was a class act. The food was amazing. Yet another great Seattle Restaurant Week find. We shall return.
Ended up at RN74 for Restaurant Week. And they were packed, as usual, but I think more so because of the 3 course prix fixe menu at $ 35.00. What a deal ! Our server, Nicole, was wonderful at explaining the food dishes and wines by the glass. My wife started with a Salad Lyonnaise which could have been her dinner on any other night. It was huge, with big chunks of lardons. YUM ! I opted for the Beef tartar... Excellent !!! And ate half of her salad to help digest that beef. She had a very flavorful Special Steak ( with a slight supplement charge ) and I had a very different, but tasty Coq au Vin. Different because it was dry, not in a juicy wine broth. Both were excellent, and so large that we brought some home for lunch the next day. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Jeff, the Somm, who picked out a wonderful Washington Rhone Blend to compliment both dishes. Merci Jeff ! Desserts were killer too: Profiteroles and some decadent Chocolate Cream Mousse that we actually dipped the Profiteroles into. WOW ! What a dining experience ! We are going back next month to try some new dishes. Cheers !
Although we arrived early, we were seated at our table almost immediately. Even with the restaurant week limited menu selections were amazing. We started with the smoked potato soup which was tres bien.
For the second course I had the coq au vin, and my husband had the rockfish with spring Cassoulet. The sauce on the Coq au vin was a magnificent blend of smoky and mushroom flavors with chickpeas and pearl onions.
For the dessert course I had the chocolate creme and my husband had the warm beignets with salted caramel sauce.
The service along with the food was excellent. I would give them five stars and it is a definite do again!
Took too long to get our appetizer, which came out with our food rather than before
The truffle Camembert appetizer is truly outstanding as is the beignets for dessert. My “coq au vin” had no vin and was rather dry. Unusual for RN74.
the food and service were excellent. We went on Dine Out Seattle and the options were great. Our server asked us if we had an event to go to so she could make sure we were out of there on time. Everything we experienced was great
Our server was wonderful!
Everyone was so attentive. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming. They all worked together and any member of the staff that came by our table asked if we needed anything or how our experience was. The food was superb!! Will definitely be back.
Excellent food! Very happy to have dined here especially during restaurant week. Pricey otherwise.
Food was fine but I had to leave before dessert (which came with the Seattle Restaurant Week) because the kitchen and service was so slow that I would have missed my show (I had been there for 1.25 hours). Too many great restaurants with good service in Seattle. Don't need to come back.
This restaurant used to be one of my favorites. I hear that there is a new chef and sadly this has affected the quality of their classic bouillabaisse, which is not only inferior in taste and presentation from its former version but also the value has gone way down because the portion of halibut within the dish is much smaller. They are also shelling the mussels, rather than presenting them in their beautiful shells, so the dish is just not that well-presented. Nice wine selection, though in spite of the fact that It took 20 minutes to get our first glass.
We enjoyed our dinner here. Our waiter was a little snobby but the food was really good and the ambiance was fun. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in the area.
We've been to RN74 several times, and it's always been fantastic. This past Saturday, we had the tasting menu and it was perfect. My favorite was the halibut served with a super fresh pea puree, but every course was excellent. We will be back.
Classic elegance. World-class service, an intentional and well curated wine list and approachable, simple but outstanding food.
Food was expertly prepared, meat was tender and flavorful, chicken melted in my mouth. The polenta was perfect both in flavor and texture. We loved the brussel sprouts. Can't wait to get back there!
There were some exceptional items, some average and one miss. I'll start with the miss - the dessert - a chocolate mousse - bitter, with tart sauces, and streusel which basically crumbled-up cookie, so nothing to write home about. All in all it didn't add up as a dessert for us. Now, the average - the pork chop was quite nice - grilled medium rare - but nothing special. Now the excellent - the soup - or in this case, "veloute" - was fantastic in taste, appearance and presentation. The polenta was also outstanding - coarse-ground, but easily chewable, with excellent flavor. The baguette with cheese was utterly delicious and the bread grilled to perfection. Finally, the beef tartare was also excellent, with perfect seasonings - we ignored the hard croutons it came with and use the abundant bread-basket offering instead. The service was very good as well, and helpful (such as in quickly remedying the missing streusel situation). All in all it was a wonderful dining experience, even if not 100% perfection. The "hits" were worth going back for.
Amazing meal. Server was very experienced in recommending great pairings. Loved pate and coq au vin! Beignets were so delicious.
Absolutely wonderful! It was our 25th anniversary and they made very special from the food to the service we were very pleased. We would recommend this to all.
The food was pretty amazing. I mean, how bad could frites fried in duck fat BE? We went for my husband's birthday and not only did they have a card for him on the table but a delicious dessert at the end of the meal. The service was attentive but not hovering. We were 30 min. late for our reservation and the hostess actually called to make sure we were still coming. Very nice! I would highly recommend RN74, as long as money is not really an issue.
Very attentive staff, flavorful, excellent preparation of food. Extensive wine and friendly wine steward, not pretentious.
Served very timely before a show. Would recommend and go back again.
Great menu, wine selection and vibe....
I am very grateful for the professionalism and grace the RN74 team brought to making dinner for my 8-year-old son’s birthday so special. Paul, Jeff, Chef, and the whole team were spectacular and went out of their way to welcome us. Chef brought out dishes himself, Paul’s wine service was educational and exciting, and everyone in the restaurant seemed to know it was my son’s birthday — all this after I’d noted the occasion via OpenTable less than an hour before our table! I am so impressed by the service and quality at RN74. I will also say that every dish was perfectly executed and that I am now a devotee if Domaine de Montille (to the extent my pocketbook will allow it). Bravo and thank you. Andy Comer
They specifically asked what time we had to leave for a show, but we still had to hunt down our server with a credit card to leave at that time.
My wife and I were meeting with new friends and we wanted a place with great food, that was really comfortable and had an interesting décor to encourage conversation. RN74 was perfect! Everything was perfect and we had a great time!
Food was cold, super slow service. Cork floating in the wine
Overall it was a great dining experience. Food was great (beef tar tar, endive salad, PN Seafood Boullanese which had scallops that were the best I ever had, no exaggeration) The lamb dish was mediocre. The desert we ordered was a disappointment for this place. Meringe Pavlova which was hard as rock literally. When you stab your fork into it the piece flew off the dish. I will end on + note by saying, if you are a wine enthusiast, you must visit this place. They have their own Sommelier on staff which takes drinking wine to the highest level!
Great place for a date night. Nice dark lighting. Good food that is approachably French.
We went for Valentine’s Day and we were squeezed into a row of 2 tops. We could hear the conversations if both couples on either side of us. The food was good but not worth the $300 of overpriced valentines fare. Honestly, the food was just ok, the best thing we had was literally the truffle baguette. Otherwise, meh. On another note the wine list had a good selection and our waiter was top notch. Every year we say we aren’t going out on Valentine’s Day. Maybe 2020 we will learn our lesson finally.
The menu was prix fix due to Valentine's Day. The selections were very bold for my palette but I loved them all. So delicious. Service was amazing, cocktails perfect and each course was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Big fan of RN74. C'est Bon
This was one of the best "all-around" dining experiences I've had in a long time. The food, authentic French, and outstanding. The service was impeccable. Thanks for the amazing dining experience.
This was my first time at RN74. I was very impressed with the food and the service was excellent. I will return for those experiences. Wine is s big part of the value proposition at RN74 and they fall short on that score. I am a wine collector myself so I can say from experience that while the selection of wines offered is exceptional, the prices at RN74 are ludicrous. I saw a handful of fairly priced wines and ordered one. Without experience in buying and aging wines most people will not be able to spot a decent value and so should expect to be overcharged.
A legendary San Francisco restaurant in Seattle.
The food was fine and the wine list solid as expected. But...the front of the house staff was poor the service was painfully slow and overly pretentious considering the lack of basic service to the point of being confrontational. The GM was a saving grace as he was diligently working the floor...saved the day.
It was a very nice experience. We both got the 5 course meal and the accommodated my food issues by modifications which I was very grateful for. It was a wonderful way to try something new and for the price I really felt like I got a deal for a dinner like that. The service was outstanding as well. Very polite and professional.
We had an excellent time at RN74. The food was delicious! Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail, amazing seasoning. Endive salad and coq au vin were fantastic. Pork chop was ok, but the beignets made up for it. Excellent service, attentive without being intrusive. Excellent guidance on wine selections. Super convenient location, can walk from several hotels. Will be back for sure!
My husband and I had appetizers for dinner and our friends had entrees. Decent service for a busy Saturday, only thing lacking is there was rarely someone at the front desk greeting people, we stood for about 7 minutes before anyone came to greet us. I faced the door after being seated and noticed this was a trend. We enjoyed the prawn cocktail best, escargot was a bit bland but fois gras and bone marrow tasty. Our friends thought the chicken was OK but the steak a bit bland and tough.
We arrived at the restaurant 5 min late, we were seated immediately. The staff was very professional. The food price was what you would expect for the price level that was stated on open table. The portion was appropriate for the price of the food. The service staff was attentive and professional. After each dish the utensils were replaced with new ones. When I left to go to the bathroom my napkin was folded and placed on the table. The server was kind, funny, polite and professional. We were not rushed through dinner.
We started with shrimp cocktail and oyster. They were perfect. The shrimp had some herb on them so a little different from just boiled shrimps for shrimp cocktail. The oysters were very good, no shells in the oysters sometimes left by poor preparation. Next was soups, French onion soup and butter nut squash soup. My wife loved her soup and I enjoyed my soup but it was just a little bit salty. Then we had the Foie Gras was very well done, even my wife who is 50/50 on it really enjoyed it. The mussels were the best mussels I have ever had. I don’t know how they cooked the mussels to be so tender. Finally we had bone marrow. The bone marrow was just ok. It lacked some flavor. The alcohol prices were a little bit on the high side. I would expect to find a glass of wine for about $9 to $15 across the board. The wine was $12 to $20. Don’t get me wrong I am not being cheap but is nice to see when they have a wide variety of prices for all people. Too may restaurant today price their drinks too high. The price of alcohol has not doubled or tripled in 10 years but the price of a drink in the restaurant have. I think it’s also hard to see the price of soda climbing to $4 when the cost of an 8 oz soda is about .20 cents.
Our dinner consisted of all appetizers. We were not in the mood for the entrees that were offered.
We had a very nice time and the restaurant provided excellent service as well as good food.
Music not conducive to conversation
Great food! Amazing wine and sommelier. Service could have been a tad bit faster, but I’m a NYC based boy so I may be just on a difference pace. Definitely not a big enough reason to not come here! Just a solid thing to be aware of. (Don’t bring a foodie who can’t hold a convo). The sommelier was incredible both in taste and storytelling. The food was incredible. Best I’ve ever had!
A friend and I had the tasting menu with top wine pairing. The food was excellents as were the wines chosen. The sommelier knew the wines and could provide interesting bits of information, as could the wait staff. The food was not overly rich, and the flavors were complex. It was an expensive dinner, but worth the price. A good spot for a rare blowout celebration.
Our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and recommended some great dishes. For appetizers/sharing plates, we got escargots, brussels sprouts, and duck fat fries. Brussels sprouts were seasoned just right, not too salty. Duck fat fries was great as usual. All the entrees we got - lamb shank, bouillabaisse, mary's chicken coq au vin, and country farm pork chop - were so delicious. For the price point everything was pretty worth it. We're excited to come back and try the steaks. Convenient location as well, but no parking since it's in the heart of downtown.
