About RL Restaurant
A warm, rich interior, RL Restaurant houses an art collection that reflects and represents a lifestyle vision of quality, integrity and timelessness - the design and cultural aesthetic of Polo Ralph Lauren. The food is not based on how exotic the chef can appear with his creativity, but on how finely tuned and balanced are his compositions -- renditions of ideas that have a history on the American Table. ****Please note that reservations are for dining room only. Bar and Patio are first come first serve.******

RL Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
RL never disappoints. The ambiance is cozy and elegant, and the food is wonderful. The dover sole entree is one of my favorite meals in the city. For lunch, RL has plenty of delicious salad options and the burger and turkey burger are amazing. The food is pricey however and I would recommend making a reservation.
We come here every time we are in Chicago. The crab cake Benedict is one of our favorite restaurant entrees of all time. This particular visit was probably the most disappointing we’ve had as there were several very casually dressed people in the dining room, including a man in jeans who left his American flag baseball cap on for the duration of his meal. Just not the type of thing you expect to see in such a formal service setting. We were also celebrating our anniversary which most restaurants tend to congratulate with a drink or dessert of some kind and there was merely a congratulations offered by the waiter. We’ll definitely be back for brunch just not on such a special occasion.
Food and service was outstanding! We had a horrible table (do not sit at table #53!). My husband was bumped into several times by the waitstaff and had to watch his head continually as the food trays were staged right next to him....he took it all in stride though!
I always enjoy my meal at RL. The food and service are excellent. The only problem is the restaurant is incredibly small and there is very little space to walk between tables and almost no are to wait for your table. I would suggest going during an off hour time such as lunch to avoid feeling crowded by other patrons and the waiters walking by.
It would be good if the maitre de did not ask: would you prefer 'bottled water or tap water'? but rather simply ask: would you like 'bottled water'. There are just way too many tables crammed into this space..one can hardly move. It does not make for an elegant experience but a poor Manhattan experience of typical overcrowding. The coat check gal has no space..checking in at the front is overflowing and crowded with tables just to the west of check in. I had to put my purse between my knees to give the gal my coat: no place to put it. Coming in through the bar from the store: I had to pull my overcoat to my body to avoid hitting diner's plates and food. Leaving to get out coats met with the same discord of moving too close by diners. Food was well prepared. Wine was so so. Whole Foods offers a better selection.
This restaurant never disappoints!! The food, ambiance and service are always five star. The only complaint I would have is that the tables are too close together - not much privacy. The burger was cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious. Definitely keep room for desert. The chocolate cake was the overall winner at the table but the key lime pie was my favorite.
Great ambiance. Warm and welcoming staff. The escargot were excellent. The veal chop was excellent. The steak diane that was available but not on the menu was very disappointing. It was covered in a thick brown gravy that certainly did not come up to my expectations. In my opinion it certainly was not a Diane preparation. We have dined at RL many time and will mostly likely do it again, but will be more discriminating in ordering.
We were in Chicago for the weekend of New Years, and opted to have dinner close to our hotel and RL was a favorite lunch spot for us, so we decided to check it out for dinner. Place was packed for New Years, but managed to have a cocktail at the bar, and everyone on staff was on point that night which created a great experience. The food was very good, recommend the dover the sole, but the filet was also quite good. You can tell they have a regular local following, and we enjoyed conversations with the couple next to us from Chicago. Great spot- will definitely keep coming back.
I usually love my visits to RL's however, we were very disappointed this time around. Unfortunately the food was mediocre and certainly not worth the money. My daughter ordered the farmhouse chicken which arrived on a plate with no garnishes and at a lukewarm to medium temperature. My scallops (on special that eve) were lukewarm. We also ordered the fries which came out cold. We had a later reservation (8:30 pm) and the staff, while friendly, seemed hurried and eager to call it a night.
I always reserve a table for lunch when meeting my friends in Chicago for one of our shopping werkends. Ralph Lauren never disappoints and is my favorite resturant in town. The food was spectacular, atmosphere amazing, and the incredible staff all made it perfect, again!
