The food was lackluster, certainly not worth the price per person. Was surprised that they included the gratuity for 4 people, was glad that I saw that on the bill before I added another tip. The view was very nice, though.
The Hostess was lovely....not so much the waiter (very slow and charged for 18%gratuity for table of 4). Food was extremely disappointing as well.....past experience years ago was a totally different experience.
Breakfast buffet was below average for price
The food selection was less than expected for the breakfast at the resort.
It was very busy but the staff was very responsive to our needs and requests. Food was terrific
Very good, except my 6 year old kids were charged for the buffet
The food and service were good but way overpriced. Too expensive.
The Mothers Day Brunch was incredible with live music, fantastic service and a huge selection of dishes to choose from.
Terrible. Just terrible. I never leave reviews but this was an absolute joke. First, the materdee was also the bus boy, clearing tables and preparing for the next guests. Second, I had to pour my own coffee and OJ for the kids. Third, food was terrible. Cheap eggs, over cooked bacon and just bad tasting sausage. The buffet was awful. Paying $28 per plate was way over prices for the quality of food. I would discourage anyone from eating at this restaurant.
Went there for Mother's Day. The website did not say buffet only, but that is what we were told at the door. It seemed ok at the time but got a lot more crowded after we were seated. The food was fair at best (is that all that $22/person + tax + tip will get you?). The staff was overwhelmed and we waited just to get some water, finally went to pour some myself from the tray of pitchers when the host took it from me, not pleased, and poured water for us. The overall experience wasn't hideous, but not a good value-no need to go back.
This experience was abysmal at best. I brought my family and my friend to an Easter brunch that consisted of food not qualified to be served as complementary at a low class hotel. The French toast was cold and dry and was kept under heat lamps. The bacon was chewy, and the pastries were ice cold. There were boxed cereals and the fruit was limited. The only redeeming quality was that the omelette was freshly made. However, we had a good five minute wait for someone to bring eggs out to this remote location, and although there were only two of us standing there waiting, mine and my friend's omelettes were switched.I got my friend's omelette and she got mine by mistake.
Many years ago when I came to this establishment for Easter brunch yearly, it was a fantastic affair. It was actually held in the Riverside hearth, and there was an omelette station, hot food bar, a salad bar, crab legs, all you could eat steamed shrimp, etc. This time, when I arrived, I entered the Riverside hearth, and spent five minutes looking around for someone who could help me. What I discovered was that there was a Passover event being held there. So my search for where my brunch was being held began. It took another 10 minutes for me to find the location, only to be disappointed by what was being served. And to top it all off, I was charged for three adults and two children, when in fact there were two adults and three children. Given my experience thus far, I didn't think there was any hope in getting someone to correct the bill, which came to more than $100!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone ever, nor do I ever intend to return for any reason. Worst Easter ever! Thanks Lansdowne. 😡
Christmas Day Brunch
Food was mixed; some of the buffet food was cold off the buffet and some tasteless. The VA eggs benedict were stone cold, and the ricotta stuffed French toast was bland. There were a number of other dishes that just didn't measure up from a flavor perspective. Some bright spots. The garlic mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes were excellent. The plum pudding was good as well.
Service was less than great and given that an 18% gratuity was built into the price, I would have expected my coffee to be refilled without having to flag someone down. Overall, it was way overpriced for the food quality and service (although kudos to the staff for friendliness!).
Our seating was at 2 and it wasn't overcrowded, so I don't believe the issues were related to too many people.
We will not be back.
Experience for breakfast buffet on XMAS eve not the best - cold food on buffet , ran out of items, etc. would certainly give them another chance as I would say this was an off day for them. Server outstanding - he tries his best to make up for food issues.
A bit over priced in my opinion for what you receive. But the waiter was willing to bring us a side of strawberries even though it wasn't listed on the menu.
The food was underwhelming however the dessert was great. Missed Sunday brunch because they stop serving at 1030am...the lunch buffet was very limited and did not live up to a five star resort .
We always come here for brunch. The menu is just breakfast now but food is overall very good.
My husband booked a table for our family for Valentines Day brunch. The booking was not necessary as there was only one other table with guests. The service was prompt and the buffet
ready. The food choice was pathetic to say the least. For a hot buffet there was only one meat dish, mashed potatoes, green beans and bread rolls. The salad buffet was slightly better with only three more choices. The quality , flavor and presentation of the food was poor and certainly not worth the price charged. The dessert buffet, usually a highlight at resorts, was also poor. A chocolate olive oil tart that was bland, a bread pudding also bland and rock hard, and a liquid pudding served in a small plastic cup. The only minor saving grace was homemade vanilla ice cream. Such a disappointment. My children, well traveled with adventurous taste buds, didn't even have the standard American kids food ( pizza or chicken nuggets and fries) to choose from. Would we dine here again? No. It is such as shame as this resort is two minutes from our home and we do love Sunday brunch. Come on Lansdowne Resort, you should be able to do much, much better than this. Give us somewhere nice for brunch and I am sure, if done well, there will not be only two tables filled but only two tables empty.
The food was not impressive for the price we paid. There was nothing to rave about and when we got the bill we were like really the food is better at Cracker Barrel
Our experience was a major disappointment. The food was so-so and the service was almost nonexistent. It was just my wife and I and we had no idea how much it was going to cost. We really did not care as we were just looking for a nice relaxing meal with good food. If spending a lot of time trying to hunt down someone to refill your water glass is your idea of relaxing, this is the place for you! There are many better places to eat on a Sunday afternoon and most of them are much less expensive and provide better qualify food.
The Mother's day brunch was fantastic. At first I thought it was a bit pricey, but then I saw the menu. After arriving, I knew the brunch was well worth the price. Service was great...large room so it was relatively quiet, even with many children there with their moms. Food was amazing and the variety even more so.
Do not miss a special event brunch here...it is first class!
Can't believe I made reservations for a cobbled together cold buffet
Nice weekend brunch buffet. The made to order omelets were very good. Friendly service.
Brunch at Riverside Hearth- Lansdowne Resort has a wonderful array of delicious salads, veggies, fruits, main dishes, and desserts. This, combined with an attentive and friendly wait staff, and a beautiful view of rolling golf greens and the distant Shenandoah Mountains, makes it a winner!
It was very disappointing. We expected an upscale buffet with many choices. Instead, it was a BBQ theme with very limited selection.
Went with DH for Father's Day brunch. Our reservation was for 2 pm and we showed up on time and was seated quickly. Restaurant was pretty empty by this time. We were sat by window with view of golf course. Food was very good and there were a lot of options. Only downside was that brunch was supposed to end at 3pm but they started breaking down the stations at 2:30. Also they automatically added 18% gratuity to my tab which was only a party of two. Would go to again in any case.
Great for group special events as well as for couples
I went with my family for Father's Day. The wings were apparently good (I don't eat wings), the fruit was great and so were the mashed potatoes. The brisket was dry with no sauce, the desserts were yucky and dry, the crab was fishy. The service was not so great either. We have gone here in the past and been extremely happy, but this go around we were quite unhappy and will not be returning especially for the price. We made many food jokes comparing it to the desert for the rest of the day so there was some entertainment created from the experience.
My family and I treated my wife to the Mother's Day Brunch held at Riverside Hearth. She has yet to stop talking about the wonderful time that she had! At first, there was a misunderstanding with the reservation. However, the staff was very, very accommodating towards me. We had an awesome table. The service was top notch (thanks, Mr. Oscar!). The food was divine!! I wish that we could dine like that every week!
I scheduled my son's First Communion brunch through Open Table at Riverside Hearth. We had a party of 16, and the staff did a top-notch job of preparing our tables in a separate section of the restaurant, which was semi-private. The food was excellent (the chef at the omelette station made incredible omelets, waffles, pancakes, and frittatas, and entertained everyone in the process!) and the atmosphere was lovely. All of my out-of-town guests commented about how impressed they were. Thank you!
Business lunch at Riverside Hearth was, as expected, an exceptional experience.
Wait service, food, ambience, view - all fantastic.
One of my favorites in the metro-DC area!
Food was average at best, and at $80 a person for the buffet I expected significantly more than what I got.
Big open, and boring. Service terrible. No one came to welcome us and explain how the buffet
worked. Food was plenty but bland. Desserts looked like they were from Costco. I love Costco
but would not expect to see cakes and breads that look like they come form Costco being served in a
restaurant.
Many diners were regulars; this restaurant is part of a resort / club. One regular was incensed
that the mashed potato had run out and he had to wait for the dish to be replenished. He created a prolonged
and offensive scene about it and it was shameful. Badly handled. No, we will not be
back there, and no, we will not recommend this place.
The food was quite good for a buffet but also pricey. They had turkey, ham, prime rib, duck, salmon and the staff kept busy stocking
the supply so there was none of that empty bin stuff you see at the usual buffet. The staff was attentive and cleared plates and brought beverages. I thought the manditory 18% tip for what was essentially bussing the table was excessive.
The desserts could use a little improvement. There was bread pudding but with no sauce to put on it. There was ice cream but only cinnamon flavor. There was no pie but there were some little finger food things with pie flavor. I would have been happy with some apple pie and vanilla ice cream. The room is large and a bit noisey but it was possible to have a conversation.
Thanksgiving Day lunch at the Riverside Hearth was extraordinary, albeit expensive and lean. For $60 one would expect food well beyond the average buffet and it was. The Turkey and stuffing were moist and good and the carving station also offered beef and pork. The chef worked magic on the side of brussel sprouts, but the roasted root vegetables weren't so lucky. The salad bar with minimal with a big bowl of mixed greens, orange slices, pecans and a raspberry vinaigrette. The desserts were good, especially the homemade cinnamon ice cream. All is all is was a great meal, but honestly, it was still a buffet and for the money, the value just wasn't there.
My wife and I are about to start a home remodel, so we looked for a local restaurant to have our Thanksgiving meal together. We are very close to Landsdowne, and the menu for the Thanksgiving buffet looked inviting.
The hostess sat us by a window with a beautiful view. We both tried the salad and seafood for our first course, and I particularly enjoyed the oysters on the half-shell. They were fresh, well shucked, and tasted delicious. We both tried the peel and eat shrimp, which were good sized and well seasoned. The raspberry vinaigrette was good, and we both thought the fruit served was ripe and flavorful. All of the entre items we tried were very good, and the turkey was moist. Dessert items were average, but decent.
A nice selection on the Thanksgiving lunch buffet.
We have gone here three different years for Thanksgiving. Although, it was not as nice as when we sat in the "On the Potomac" restaurant and went to tables under the waterfall. It was good - food was good, service was good. Overall if you don't want to cook at home then it is a good place to go. For the property- I have been going here since 1989 and my wife and I no longer stay here because the property and room have gone to more and more disrepair. But Thanksgiving is good here.
We visited over a weekend and had the breakfast buffet (no available menu). The selections were fresh, flavorful and many. The wait staff was very attentive. The price was a little over the top for a breakfast spread; but with no other options without leaving the resort, we ate their both days.
Overall food was good. Omlets were excellent. French toast was briny and dry. Service was excellent. View was scenic.
We went for the dinner buffet. The food was fine but for what it was, it was a little pricey.
