Rivers Restaurant, located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, offers fine dining on the roaring Fork. The restaurant focuses on serving fine game, beef and seafood. You can also enjoy many options on the gluten-free menu at River Restaurant if your diet requires it. Early bird specials are available each day. These consist of three courses, one of which is dessert. There is also occasional live music available on some nights.
If you are coming in for dinner at Rivers Restaurant, you can enjoy appetizers like Colorado lamb meatballs, flash fried calamari and corn chowder. A popular entre is the blacked pork loin with caramelized apples. A great way to end the evening is to try the Trinity cream trio, with chocolate, lavender and pistachio.
Had Christmas dinner here. The Starr was great and the food was wonderful. These guys did a great job with a size able crowd
We have dined at the Rivers Restaurant before and we were happy to dine there again, being as how they were the only major restaurant to be open over the Christmas holiday and that would also take a reservation. We dined at the Rivers Restaurant for both Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day dinner. The food and wine were excellent on both nights. On Christmas Eve, we sat in the dining room. It was extremely busy and a bit on the noisy side, which was to be expected, as this restaurant was handling ALL of the Christmas parties...etc. The portions were small but did not take note of this until the next evening. The next evening, we were sat in the bar. It was quieter then the night before. I ordered the same thing as the night before, as it was so excellent. This time, however, my portions were all significantly larger which made me wonder if I had been a bit slighted on the night before due to the heavy traffic of customers. The only annoying event that night was when the staff began working on their duties while we were still dining. Being as how we were in the bar, sitting at a table next to the bar, and they began tossing silverware into bins (to be wrapped in napkins) at this bar, all made for extremely loud clatter. We finally had to say something and they promptly removed this duty to the kitchen. We decided we would probably request the dining room only from now on. All in all, a very excellent restaurant where the food and wine are great and the staff are courteous. We will continue to go there every year like we do now.
We were pleased to be able to have our Thanksgiving dinner at Rivers Restaurant this year. Service was a bit brusque, but I think the entire staff was in survival mode for this very busy night which had people waiting out the door for a table. We found our traditional thanksgiving meal to be delicious; I wish I could make turkey this moist and flavorful! It was a treat to have our Thanksgiving dinner here when we were away from home and I would definitely return if we find ourselves in Glenwood Springs again.
We went on thanksgiving. They had a great traditional dinner and you could still order of the regular menu. The wine list was very reasonably priced. The views are great and full of windows. Would definately go back
We have eaten at Rivers several time, and we are never disappointed.
The food is very good, the prices are very reasonable and they are also very kid friendly and have god options in their kids menu.
The food is good, the service is great, the atmosphere is great and they have a great view.
I was slightly disappointed that they removed their mussels dish from the menu as it was absolutely amazing.
Excellent food coupled with great service created an evening focused on friends and conversation. What a treat.
Three of us had meals, two steaks and fish and chips. Served steaks with awesome mashed potatoes. Steaks were good cuts. The dinner rolls were different than any we had had before and were a delicious change of pace.
All in all we were greatly disappointed. Our waitress was nice enough but not overly attentive. Maybe it was because the restaurant was understaffed. The food was ok but not anything to write about. It was kind of bland. So bottom line there are more restaurants to explore so probably would not go back unless there were some positive reviews. It would be good for outdoor dining and could be a neighborhood gem if some effort was put toward the food and service. Maybe it just wasn't a good night.
Our overall experience was wonderful. Everything was top-of-the-line; from the greeting at the door to the excellent food. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. Thanks to all the people at the restaurant.
My wife and I had enjoyed a nice dining experience here several years ago and we thought we would try it once again. Our table was waiting for us at the scheduled time and we were greeted promptly by a very professional server.
We could not have asked for a nicer dining experience. All of the food choices we made were prepared well and they all pleased our palate.
Our selections included two appetizers, salad, and two different main meal selections. All were excellent, and we were further pleased to find that the complete dining tab was just over
A very nice dining experience in a pleasant, relaxing setting! We will definitely return when back in the area.
We had a party of 17 for dinner. The evening started well, however, after serving our drinks and bread we were ignored for a long period of time. Our meals were delivered all at one time, which was very nice except that one person did not get his meal until the rest of us were completing our dinners. The restaurant didn't charge for that meal, as was appropriate. I commented to the waiter that my steak and another guest's steak were over cooked, nothing was done. We never saw our waiter again until he brought the bills. He was busy polishing silverware within the view of some of the guests. We didn't get offered dessert or coffee until another wait person collected our dinner plates way after we were done. VERY disappointing!!!
Also, staff sitting in the dining room hall polishing silver or whatever takes away from the ambiance of a nice fairly upscale restaurant... made me feel like we were in a family run take-out restaurant where staff were sitting around working on tasks typically done out of sight of clients. Entirely different experience than 3 yrs ago when we were there...we will not be back!
We were told by some locals that this was a great place. We were very disappointed. Our appetizer was very good.....the Brie . However, our entree was bland. We had a halibut special. The fish seemed pre-made...maybe frozen and then baked. The rice was dry. The beets were delicious! The Ceasar salad was so strong with garlic we sent it back.
Our server was very nice but we did not see her often.
There are so many very good places to eat in downtown Glenwood.....this one is not worth getting the car out and driving out there.
The food is terrific for the price and you get good quality.
Wild game meatloaf was too spicy but trout was very good. Delicious rolls
The service at Rivers was exceptional!! The rolls were delicious and the wine list was adequate.
I ordered the special which was halibut, just received that day, so I expected very fresh! It didn't taste fresh and the preparation of it was tasteless.
I shared my husband's prime rib instead. A bit disappointing for our 39th Anniversary.
Good food, good service. We sat on the patio next to the river. Quite romantic.
Only positive things to say about this restaurant except the tables were too close. We were forced to hear every word of the conversation from the next table. This in turn caused us to limit our own conversation.
Great outdoor terrace with a view over the river. Great price/performance ratio. Service impeccable. The wine list could use some improvements, particularly on the higher-price segment. The food was fresh and of high quality (excellent elk flanks, great small lobster tails, smoked trout), though the combinations you may get on your plate are sometimes a bit awkward (I had a shrimps appetizer with excellent shrimps, but under thick layer of cheddar cheese ...). Overall a great place, especially for an outdoor dinner. However, inside the place is very charming as well.
Overall, a Very good experience. We were delayed in seating, but once seated it was enjoyable. Food was very good. While atmosphere was good overall, we were in attendance for "Open Mike Night" in the bar, and were serenaded by less than professional singers, which was a negative distraction. Overall however, a nice place, and recommended.
I was very happy to have chosen The River for my birthday dinner. The service was excellent and the food was very good. The setting was perfect. It was raining that night so sadly, we could not sit out in the deck. It would have been wonderful to have the sound and sights of the river and the surrounding mountains. Really a beautiful setting. I would highly recommend The River. Would be great for wedding receptions among other things.
We had eaten at The Rivers previously (as a couple) and loved the food and setting (by the river) and service. This time, we went with 9 people (five adults, four children and two babies) and the experience was terribly disappointing. We didn't get our rolls until 1/2 hour after we'd arrived, there was no silverware or napkins (we had to ask for it), and then our food finally was served about an hour after we arrived. The food was good (with the exception of the side Caesar salad being excessively garlicky), but it was just too slow for a large family group with small children. We didn't bother staying for dessert and probably won't return. It may still be a great place for a couple, but it wasn't nearly what I'd expected or remembered from our last visit.
This is our third time going here. Last visit was crazy, as they had a huge private party. They took the larger side of the room, and had a buffet setup. I wish I had known, because of the noise factor. This time, there were others in the restaurant and not chaotic. We had to move tables, because there was a roof "drip" right in my face! I sure hope the waitress reported it, or maybe they already knew of it. We shared great appetizers, and each of our dinners were extremely good. The only disappointing thing was that eventhough I checked in, I had received an email about not honoring my reservation. I haven't heard anything back.
We had an excellent experience celebrating my dad's 70th birthday. The table overlooking the river was beautiful. There were two little children who were running around making too much noise towards the end of our evening. But, overall, it was well worth the visit.
Our reservation was not listed at the restaurant. We tried to eat outside but weather forced us inside where we were seated in a room with two large groups. It was very loud. Food came overcooked --tuna--. Waitstaff seemed over-wrought. treated my grandson well.
We were very disappointed this time. I had to send my dinner back. I asssume that they had a different chef on Sunday.
food was amazing and beautiful view
We dined on July 9th, a Thursday evening. We took advantage of the early-bird special. We had the Green Mountain Chicken and the Cider Brined Pork . Both were excellent. Service was prompt and the waiter was friendly. We began our meal on the deck beside the river, which we enjoyed, but went inside due to rain. Either way, we had a lovely time.
Everything was great. Salad very fresh, terrific and fresh trout and halibut, good wine, right on the river, wonderful service. One of the best places in Glenwood Springs!
The food here was absolutely amazing. The view was spectacular, as well!
Rivers is excellent. The food is great, We continue to go there.
The Rivers is a great place to go for a romantic dinner for two or just a special place to dine with family other than the normal bar & grill found in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. You can dine inside for a quiet dinner or dine outside on the deck under an umbrella. While on the deck you can watch the never ending rafters run through the rapids just below you, while enjoying your favorite adult beverage. The food is amazing. No matter what you like, it can be found on the menu plus more. Service is top notch. They even offer a happy hour special which includes a three course meal for one price. When my husband and I visit Glenwood Springs, the Rivers is always one of our dining choices. I definitely would say stop in for dinner when you are in Glenwood Springs, you won't be disappointed.
Our server was great and the food is a great value. Will definitely be eating there again.
went to several restaurants while in Glennwood Springs... this was by far the best!!! service was outstanding.. food was great!! atmosphere was very nice.. after viewing the outdoor dining area, we will be outdoors next time...very tranquil...
I took my sister to Rivers for her birthday as she'd never been to Glenwood before, & to me, this place is part of the whole experience. Our server was lackadaisical, leaving us unattended for long periods of time and ignoring the martini he'd spilled on the table during delivery of our drinks. I had to ask to have the table wiped, & when he directed the busser to do so, she never came by. The food was good but not outstanding. The best part of the evening was watching the rafters going by on the river. I'm not sure I'll go back again, especially not for a special occasion.
We like Rivers very much and will continue to go back.
After walking to several restaurants and the wait was 45 minutes or more, we asked the lady at the front desk of our hotel, Hotel Denver, what a great restaurant would be to go to. She told us about Rivers Restaurant! The atmosphere, service and food was absolutely fabulous! We are from Louisiana where the food is pretty unbeatable, but I have to say if we return to Glenwood Springs, Rivers Restaurant will be top on our list! Thank you so much for the friendliness and great service you provided us!
On a last minute whim (okay, lack of planning on my part), we decided to have a nice dinner on a Friday night in Glenwood. The Rivers had an opening, and we decided to give it a try. The result was fantastic!
The service was perfect. The appropriate amount of attention, water glasses always full, immaculate timing for ordering, delivery and follow up.
Pretzel bread was a nice start
The prime rib was exactly as described and well prepared. My medium rare was closer to medium, but very juicy and flavorful.
My son ordered the dry aged sirloin and it was devoured quickly. Very tender and flavorful from a sirloin
Wine list was appropriate with good options for all budgets and tastes.
Shared pecan pie was the perfect finish.
Prices were a good value for quality of food.
The sides were "okay", but not as good as the main course.
Overall a very good experience with delicious main courses and remarkably good service.
We wanted to get away from the touristy places downtown and Rivers was a beautiful choice. We hope to come back during the warmer months to be able to eat outside on the deck.
A keen is the best server! The 26 oz. Prime Rib is amazing and I had the Citrus Salmon which was cooked perfectly The rolls are to die for and I always love dining outside on the deck overlooking the river. Hands down, can't be beat!
We had to wait to be seated, in that no one appeared for a time, though the restaurant didn't appear to be busy. The seat next to our booth had a torn cushion, strange for an upscale restaurant. The salmon I had was undercooked and the 'sides' appeared to have come from a can. The waiter was not attentive and didn't react when I said I didn't like the meal. I would have liked to have my meal taken off the charge. I'm told this restaurant used to be called Penelope's and was rated better at that time.
