Rivers Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We were there around Halloween. The staff was in costume for a party later that evening. Our waiter, dressed like his roommate, was outstanding! Offered suggestions, attentive and was interactive with us at the ‘right’ moments. We had a great dinner and delicious DESSERT 👍
First time visiting Glenwood Springs and wanted to experience the local cuisine. My wife and I made the reservation for 5:30pm and there were only a few patrons in the restaurant but, we were stuck by the wall and with my back to the restaurant. I don't know who else was coming but, I definitely felt like an outsider. I had the Marinated & Grilled Elk and Portobello Mushrooms which was okay as the Elk was very chewy and not well marinated. The vegetables were undercooked on my dish and on my wife's dish of Thai Vegetables. The service was pleasant but, very slow as we sat a lot in between dishes so I feel it the food sat for awhile as it was not that hot when we got it. Kind of difficult to find the restaurant location and just not sure I would come back.
I will say the food was good, not great but good. The problem I have is that the waitress was awful. We had a large party and she knew she was going to get a tip and didn't care about us. My son ordered the veggie plate and his food didn't even come till after everyone else was done eating. Then she told us it was because it took so line to cut up the veggies. Just a poor experience all the way around. I would recommend Smoke in Glenwood, much better service and the food was better.
The Rivers Restaurant is a great place to go with family, friends or that special occasion. We go to the Rivers Restaurant every time we visit the Glenwood Springs area. You can enjoy a great dinner outside by the river or inside in a quiet corner with views of the hills and river. The dining room offers a great selection including game meatloaf, salmon, trout, steak and wonderful salads. There is even a small tavern within the restaurant where you can get a great burger, if that is what you are craving. The food is amazing. Ours selections were cooked to perfection. Don't miss this gem.
Food taste was excellent, presentation was pedestrian. Example, portabella mushroom appetizer was excellent in flavor, texture and seasoning, but looked like a hockey puck covered in sauce on a plain white plate. Not very appealing. Calimari was over-fried, with a charred one left on the serving platter.
Main course, halibut, and trimmings were excellently prepared.
Waitress was green. She did not know what Flambe meant, when I asked regarding the Bananas Foster on the dessert menu . She took my fork off the table before I was done needing a fork. I caught her attention before she left the area. She handed my used fork back to me off the pile of dirty dishes she was carrying rather than get me a fresh one.
Because of excellent view and food preparation, will give Rivers another chance.
We loved being on the river and the atmosphere of the deck and restaurant. However the food was terrible! Both of our meals were so bad. I would recommend this restaurant for cocktails and maybe aps, but that's it. When we told the manager she didn't seem to interested. Won't be back there.
Great Meal and Great Service... I had the red trout which was AWESOME and my husband had a steak...all good. Wish they would have had a place on the website (open table) to ask if you were celebrating a special event....
I would recommend this to anyone. Both inside and outside dining would be a great choice. We ate inside.
This was our first and probably only visit. We looked at the website and other reviews and thought it would be a nice night out with our daughter and her significant other. We wanted something special to celebrate her birthday.
When we arrived for our reservations we were informed that the dining room was full by a wedding reception and were shown the bar area for dining. This area only had a half dozen tables plus a bar and was half full of noisy revelers. We accepted the table and ordered drinks. The server was then absent for quite some time, and it appeared that the wedding party was demanding the attention of most of the staff. When our server reappeared we placed our dinner order, and waited quite some time. We assumed this wait was also caused by the attention the kitchen and waitstaff needed to give to the wedding party.
The food was okay, nothing special, perhaps because the kitchen was cranking out a banquet for the wedding reception. The noise level made it very difficult to have uninterrupted conversation and we were dismayed to see a band setting up right next to our table as we finished eating.
If we had known ahead of time that we would not be seated in the dining room , or that there was a wedding reception that evening, we might have chosen to try this restaurant a different night. As it turned out it is highly unlikely any of us will return.
I could not recommend this restaurant for any reason under the circumstances.
We wanted to eat outside but ate inside because the outside seating was not what we hoped for. The staff was very accommodating. I had Rocky Mountain trout and it was as good as I have ever had.
My wife and I shared creme brûlée. We are big fans and it was done wonderfully!
Although booked through Open Table when we arrived at the restaurant the hostess did not have our reservation and did nit seemed pleased we showed up, although the restaurant was practically empty. We were seated on the outside deck but then asked to be moved indoors because it was too cool outside. This seemed to draw even more adjust from the hostess. Our waitress was however very friendly and the food was good but perhaps not worth the prices.
Good was great. I feel like they attempt to be "edgy" in terms of it, meaning they do dishes that people wouldn't think of (possibly for good reason). We got the warmed Brie in a wonton she'll and it was odd, the wonton was crispy and cooked perfectly but the Brie was cold in the center. It was served with run of the mill Carr's crackers that were a little smashed. The entrees were delicious as was dessert. Their dishes were a little cheap looking and old. Honestly it was great and a wonderful experience food wise I just had a small feeling that it was cheap food sold for a little too much although it was great food. The atmosphere was beautiful for the first half of our meal. We arrived at 7 and the sun had just begun its descent. So in the sunset we enjoyed a quiet time. The house was mostly empty as diners were on the patio but hen the hostess seated a couple and a friend right next to our table and they were very loud and distracting. Not the places fault but they had many open tables away from other diners. Service also seems to be a little slower as we waited for about 15 or 20 minutes after our dinner to have the server come by and take our plates and dessert order. Having said all that I will probably return.
