About River's End
The epicenter of Sonoma Coast dining...the River's End is located in the quaint village of Jenner by the Sea about 20 minutes north of Bodega Bay. The restaurant is set on a bluff overlooking the Russian River spill into the Pacific Ocean. During lunch you can watch the Osprey dive in the river for fish or the harbor seals frolic at riverside. Dinner time is all about the sunset ... the show is worth the visit. Fortunately, the restaurant chefs and service staff aim to outdo the natural surroundings. The kitchen prepares California cuisine with a focus on local ingredients. Chef Martin Recoder prepares menus that are changing with the seasons and delight the heart. The service staff is led by Maitre d'/Owner Bert Rangel, who has owned and managed the restaurant for over 10 years. The Chef in the Redwood Bar is talented Patrick Keane. Trained at the French Culinary Institute, Patrick utilizes the freshest ingredients and classic techniques to create truly “Artisanal Cocktails”.

River's End Ratings and Reviews
This place was warm and romantic with an incredible sunset seen from our window seat. The service was top notch and the food delicious. Yet the portions were incredibly small for the cost. Overall, the whole experience makes me want to go back and do it all again.
The food, service and ambiance of Rivers End Restaurant is consistently excellent. We have been celebrating birthdays and anniversaries at Rivers End for approximately 15 years and consider it to be our all time favorite dining experience. Highly recommend the crab tasting menu.
River's End is located in Jenner where the Russian River runs into the ocean. The restaurant has a deck overlooking the river and viewing the sunset from there with a drink in your hand, chatting with other travelers, is a wonderful experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is rustic but elegant. Service was a little rushed and I wished someone would have taken drink orders out on the deck, but overall it was fine. The food is a little pedestrian. The beet salad was very nice. The sauce accompanying the duck wonton rolls was overly sweet and the rolls were just ok. The salmon chowder was good but relied too much on cream for my taste. The salmon dish was nice, served over a medley of roasted corn, watermelon, and some other things that I can't remember. Overall, we thought the food ranged from just OK to pretty good, but we will definitely go back for the sunset on the deck.
River's End has been a favorite for many years. The view around sunset is always a show stopper. The service is always good too. the night we were there the specials were king salmon. My fish was excellent but the sides were lacking flavor. I assume they do not use salt. The citris beurre blanc was good. The beet salad was impressive looking, a tower of beets, but again the flavor was boring. This is a wonderful location but next time I will go for drinks and leave after the sunset and go eat somewhere else. Food needs to be flavorful, and I think it lacks it.
This is the third time my wife and I have celebrated our anniversary at River's Edge. It's a beautiful setting and if you time it right you'll see incredible sunsets. They are noted for their salmon, and we were definitely happy with our meal. However, the service was off and we had to wait an inordinate amount of time for our main course (we think they forgot us!). Also, the lighting is somewhat annoying and we had to move our table to get out of the spotlight.
I've lived in Sonoma County for more than 30 years and this is my favorite place to eat for any and all occasions. We celebrate everybody's birthday here: from my 21 yo son to my 61 yo husband. We all LOVE it. Great service, great food, great drinks and a view that's hard to beat.
Good interior ambiance with great coastal views. Outdoor balcony is small and limited to those with a beverage. Service was very good. Lunch Menu somewhat limited. Featured local salmon, though prices were high on these. Ceviche was excellent. Vegetable Napoleon and pork sandwich were very good.
We were seated in a corner of the building facing the wall. It was horrible & only to be seated next to (7) 40+ year old bachelors preparing for their bachelor party. If they ever sat me in the corner again, I would leave before water arrived. (My bad for accepting this table).
The views as we walked through the restaurant to get to the corner were stunning. The food presentation was fantastic. The flavors were delicious.
This place came highly recommended to us and the 90 minute drive each way will be worth it next time. I would recommend this place however you know what to do if they give you the "corner table".
It was a perfect Sonoma Coast experience. There sky was clear and there was no wind. Drinks on the balcony as the sun set gently over the river/ocean. We had a window table, two couples. It is salmon season so we started off with salmon crude and the salmon chowder, both of which were excellent. I would come back just for the delicate salmon chowder with chunks of salmon and a delicate, not heavy creamy consistency. Two of us had the duck two ways with duck mousse and a duck gelatin on sautéed kale and asparagus and carrots with a blackberry sauce. The portion was very generous with two large slices of duck breast perfectly cooked. It would have been enough for two, easily. The other two had the king Salmon with black forbidden rice and corn. The citrus glaze was excellent and subtle.
For dessert we had the creme brûlée for two-yummy and the trifle. Topped off with A Dehlinger rose at the beginning. It was an excellent meal.
We reserved a table for 2:00 because we wanted to hike the Kortum Trail before lunch. We arrived in our hiking clothes but that did not seem to present a problem. The service was fantastic, friendly and not obtrusive. The Chef's Salad, the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the Prawns and Pasta were all superb: great ingredients prepared as to let their flavors shine. The chocolate mousse and the creme caramel were heavenly, we passed them around and polished the plates clean. The view of the river's mouth, the sand bar and the ocean is amazing. We noticed several people ordering post lunch beverages at the bar and taking them out to sheltered spots on the deck (it's almost always windy there) so that they could continue watching the water. The prices are high, but not unreasonable for what you get. The only thing that would have made the experience better would have been to have booked one of their cabins for the night and just hung out all afternoon until dinner rather than driving home.
We had a nice Friday evening dinner at the Rivers End with a wonderful view of the ocean and the tail end of the Russian River below us. The food was very good and was presented well. Everything was fresh and organic. We would definitely make the drive here again for another nice evening out.
