Riverboat Landing Ratings and Reviews
“!VALENTINES RUINED! Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever experienced!”
I Wanted to reserve a balcony seat 4 days in advance for me and my fiancé. They sent me an email stating that the time I asked to reserve was not guaranteed. I replied with an email asking and saying, "Ok so when could you guarantee a balcony seat? That is practically whole reason I'm going to your restaurant." then they had the nerve to straight up cancel my reservation while stating. “That’s a little offensive to the staff who endeavors every day to provide high quality food and service. That was an automated message to prevent overbooking. I will cancel your reservation" I’m sorry but when did requesting a better time constitute as offensive? I would not suggest this place to anyone ever. if you can’t treat me like a valued customer out the gate then why would I ever give you my money.
The location is excellent but the menu and decor leave a lot to be desired, mediocre at best. Wait staff was behind and seemed to be a bit overwhelmed which seemed odd as the restaurant wasn't especially busy. Clearly the restaurant maybe in need of new management with some redecorating and a better menu.
My family was in town for a wedding. Ten of us ate at the Riverboat Landing for dinner. I had to change the reservation several times and there was never a problem with that. The only thing we did not like was the limited menu due to it being Valentine's weekend. We had already looked at the regular menu on lineC and had decided what we wanted. Other than that--great experience and good food!
Went for NYE dinner with friends. Food was good, drinks weren't bad either. I've had the salmon twice here and have not been disappointed. Asparagus was too salty and mushy but everything else was fine. Went later in the evening and service was a bit lacking but I like the restaurant.
Sunday night in November is really slow at this place. However, the food was really good. I rarely comment on a specific menu item - in this case, if you like salad don't miss the Riverboat salad. A generous portion loaded with Mandarin oranges, cranberries, nuts and other goodies with a delicate vinaigrette dressing. The pasta dishes that we had were also memorable.
We showed up at the bar in late November to find we were the one patrons there. The waitress had been eating t the bar and had to wipe her hands and mouth before she greeted us. Had a bad glass of wine and were about to leave when the most awesome bartender/waitress appeared. She was friendly, knowledgable and a delight! Our guys had the steak, which was mediocre to say the least, but our lobster ravioli was amazing! Our night was made with a bottle of wine from the cellar that wasn't on the menu, but recommended by our waitress. It was delicious and the price was amazing.
Great ambiance and wonderful service. Sat at one of the balconies overlooking the river. Very romantic! Appetizers were wonderful! Had the lobster risotto and it was fabulous! My husband had the shrimp and grits and they too were out of this world! The only negative I have is that the wine list-considering the wonderful food-is sorely lacking and needs some serious consideration. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back.
The food was great. We made a reservation for a 60th birthday lunch and were told we could dine outside weather permitting. It was not raining nor did it rain when we were there but were told when we arrived we could not dine outdoors due to the weather. The lady on Sunday that made our reservation told me if it was not raining we could dine outside. Disappointed in that but the food and service was good.
Was fortunate to visit this place on a Sunday night. The restaurant was fairly empty which concerned me initially but the food ended up being superb and the view of the water from our private balcony was phenomenal! Our waitress was extremely attentive and made our evening one to remember for a long time.
Unfortunately making reservations thought open table meant nothing to the restaurant. I had made reservations for Saturday night and it was a huge inconvenience and letdown because the hostess told me it was "first come first serve" and they did not seat us for our reservation. Food was good. Waiting was not.
I have lived in the area all my life and this is the first time I have dined at River Boat Landing.
I wanted to reserve a balcony table but was told by the hostess on the phone after 6 is first come first serve. This was not stated on online reservation site or I may have rethought my timing. We were seated on the 2nd floor, the tables were cramped and there were cob-webs in the corner. Our server was extremely nice and what we ordered was very good, but for an anniversary or other special occasion I would go somewhere else next time.
This is the place to be for a romantic date night. My wife and I went here on our 2nd Anniversary and sat on the balcony. It has an amazing view of the river and USS North Carolina. Our waiter even went downstairs on the stree to take our picture. That being said, the service was fantastic and our food came out very fast. Though the sirloin did not look appetizing and did not look medium rare in the middle, as I ordered it, it tasted absolutely delicious! The asparagus was amazing as well!! Definitely will be back here for date nights in the future!
Looking up from the street below Riverboat Landing's second floor, you notice several small balconies, each with a table and two chairs. I discovered this restaurant a year ago as my girlfriend and I waited to begin Wilmington's ghost tour, but we didn't get a chance to dine there then. On our Fourth of July vacation this year, we made a reservation for lunch and enjoyed an all-around amazing experience. Earlier in the day, bad weather seemed possible, but fortunately for our outdoor dining at noon, the weather was nice but mild, with a slight, very comfortable breeze. Our hostess took us upstairs and opened a door leading out onto our balcony. Very shortly, our waitress arrived to take our drink order, returning soon after to bring us our drinks and take our orders. Our food was delicious, from the salads to our main dishes, and our waitress returned regularly to check on us and refill our drinks. We also enjoyed looking down below at the street, observing the many people enjoying the day, as well as looking out on the water. I would highly recommend this dining experience, and it's an added bonus that you can make reservations through Open Table online. I hope to return in the future for dinner but already know that Riverboat Landing also provides an excellent option for lunch. I hope you too will enjoy the same great experience we had! (One constructive criticism: the Spicy Shrimp Fra Diavolo I ordered was perfect in every way, and everything else was so positive that I almost didn't notice that there was no bread served with it. I would suggest adding bread to go with this and similar dishes. But even though I eventually noticed the absence of bread, it did not make me enjoy this particular dining experience any less--that's how positive everything else was.)
This was our second trip to the Riverboat. The food is very good, but the atmosphere seals the experience. It is located on the Riverwalk in Old Town Wilmington and offers limited outdoor seating. The inside of the building looks old (not sure if it is historic or not), but not in a bad way. The decor looks like old time Wilmington and provides a nice, romantic atmosphere. The beer list is nothing special, but they do have a good selection of craft and national brews. Overall, it is a bit pricey, but you get a nice dining experience, good food, and great service. Definitely justifies the cost.
Everything about this place was on point, except the ability to read what I asked for is the one thing I did not get. I originally wanted a table on the second floor on the balcony toward the Cape Fear River. The only reason I made that except able was because I was there with my girl friend and did not want to look like a complete tail hole.
Besides that I would highly recommend going back. My girl got steak and it was like butter, it was beyond good. I when out of my comfort zone a little and got ratatouille, and I have to say that was some really good stuff. How ever it was not like you have seen anywhere else is is like a soup poured over rice, but it taste amazing. Tea is a little on the sweet side that night and their fried pickles are really good. (A must try)
This is the perfect place to go for a romantic dinner for two, we originally went as a party of 4 but had the opportunity to sit out on the balcony if we were willing to split into 2 groups of 2, we did it and we all loved it. The view was beautiful with the sun going down, the food was excellent as well as the service. I was a unique experience, we had a wonderful evening and would love to go back if we are ever in the area again.
The balcony view was unbelievable. Arrived prior to sunset for an unforgettable view of the sunset , sunlight reflection off the river , and able to see the park as well as USS North Carolina on the other side of the river . The food was delicious and proportioned to satisfy hunger and have leftovers. Dessert was as good as the entrees. Recommend balcony seating and arriving before sunset to experience unforgettable dining and view of downtown , river , and people watching.
Excellent quality of food in a beautiful historic neighborhood with a gorgeous view of the USS North Carolina and river/boardwalk (table by a window or outside balcony). Quality of food was very good however my 20 somethings sons did not think there was enough food. We were a little surprised by the cost as prices were a bit higher then what is in their on-line menu. Otherwise, a very good dining experience.
love bringing out of town guests here. Food always inventive and interesting. Great choices and good mix for all diners. View of river outstanding and good location for a nice walk around downtown afterwards. Staff patient and I have never felt hurried out the door. Relaxed but attentive
Server seemed to continuously visit the table in which gave us the perception that she was trying to rush us through our dining experience. Server may have been wanting to clock out or possibly just not want a table to serve at that time. Server also overbearingly tried to up-sale us in which ruined the dining experience. I recommend allowing guests to enjoy the experience and to minimize table visits.
We had a 7:00 reservation. We entered the restaurant to find eight other people in a small space at the Water Street entrance, apparently all having reservations at the same time. The wait for seating was over 10 minutes. Normally, I would not mind a wait, however this restaurant has no waiting space and we were left standing. There was no maitre de readily available for check in until several couples were removed, leaving us next to last to be seated. We were taken upstairs to what I would call an inferior dining room compared to the street level, wood walled room where others were being seated. Since I had made the reservation about a month prior to Valentine's Day, I expected better seats. Instead, we were placed next to the upstairs kitchen and were initially annoyed by the ice machine being unloaded by personnel a few feet away, behind a swinging door. We asked to be moved and were moved to a table that would normally seat six people. My wife and I preferred a more intimate location, however this was right in the middle of the room. I could have merely walked in and been given better seating without a reservation. We ordered drinks: a gin and tonic for me and a Grey Goose and tonic for my wife. Both drinks came and were extremely weak. I did not taste the gin at all and my wife said the drinks obviously had not been stirred because the first two sips were nothing but tonic for her, as well. The appetizer was pleasing and then the wine and food came. We both ordered the beef filet and when they arrived, the mashed potatoes were colder than normal. The beef was passable, but nothing to write home about. Dessert was the best part of the meal--a chocolate cake--which was o.k. The server was pleasant and suitable, however the aforementioned shortcomings lingered. We have been to this restaurant when it was very good--among the best in our town. Obviously, the staff was stretched and unprepared for the larger crowd for this special evening. We will not return.
The seating practice was a disaster. Folks stood in a small corridor and the hostess passed out lottery roses to those to be seated. It wasnt until the very end of our 15minute wait that they even asked if anyone had reservations. No check in at all as the hostess just sat whomever she came upon as we patiently waited despite reservations.
Finally sat, and our server was nice, attentive, and competent.
Menu was very condensed and not much to choose from since it was valentines day.
Food was well prepared and had good flavor.
Overall bad seating practices, menu too small, service and food good.
It was a great little romantic place! Service and food was delivered promptly and without any delay. Menu was scaled down to a minimum for the Holiday. Great for getting couples in and out but I'm not sure it was the best decision for the locals. Seamed like I heard alot of "we don't offer that on tonight's menu". Food was great, personally I was disappointed with the pairing of sweet potato and brussel sprouts with my duck but it was very good. My wife had Mahi and it was very good. Overall it was a great dinner and experience!
