Rachel and Ben were outstanding. Ben greeted us and made sure we were being accommodated and enjoying our visit. Rachel, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. We will definitely return.
Great place to eat, food is amazing and the service was outstanding, we will definitely go back.
We will be back! By far the best meal and service around. We came for our 25th anniversary and was treated so great and made our night even better. I highly recommend River Stone Chophouse to everyone!
When we arrived, we were told we couldn't be seated because they were working on "on time scheduling" for the evening. We were only 5 min. early. But, whatever! Our waitress had a hard time hearing our order because it was a little noisy in the room. We waited a long while for our meals to arrive. The waitress kept apologizing for the long wait time but could not give us an estimated time for our meals to arrive. I ordered the 8 oz. filet -medium and my husband ordered the Porterhouse special of the evening- medium. My husband's steak was well done and mine was rendered almost inedible because it was mostly rare and cold. I gagged trying to get the few pieces I could eat, down. Not only were they not cooked to specification, they were not seasoned. I wanted to reach for a bottle of A1 ASAP. (A great steak shouldn't need sauce) We informed a manager that the Porterhouse was overcooked but we declined to have a new one made because of past issues with food complaints. For $132 we could have gone to Ruth Chris and enjoyed a full meal instead of ordering sides a la cart. I think that is a total rip-off. Spend $40 on just a piece of meat when I could buy better steaks at Sam's Club for less. Anyway, suffice it to say we will not be back.
Food is amazingly delicious. Service impeccable. Relaxing ambiance
Took my wife there for her birthday. It was our first time going and we really enjoyed it.
From the atmosphere, the service, and the food! Everything was perfect! They even gave us complimentary grapes and champagne for our anniversary. I can’t wait to go back
Service, ambiance makes this a great place for special occasions but the value of the Food is somewhat on pricey side for what is received. My wife and I prefer Vintage Tavern also same owners. The price tag for the meal is higher than other steak houses in Richmond, and even other major high end cities. We had cocktail and NA beer and one appetizer and deserts We had dinner in 2018 New Years eve at the Chophouse and the over-all check was less by at least 20 to 30%. I also noticed that they did not have the table traffic we experienced the year before. My feeling is that dinner for two in Suffolk that cost well over $200 is just a little to rich for my blood.
My wife and I went on New Years Eve for our Anniversary and were waited on by Kelsi. She did a fabulous job. The Surf and Turf was great and we sat at an intimate table for two next to the fireplace. We never had to ask for anything as the wait staff was always looking around to help.
The environment doesn’t lend itself to intimate dining . More open eating chop house , more booths would be preferred. The filet and lobster for two was mediocre. Seafood and mash potatoes were cold . Service was good but felt rushed .. probably adequate for every day dining ... lacking ambience for special .. my fault. Should have research more but First time there
The service was impeccable. Charlie never disappoints us with his wine selections. We trust his judgement. The food arrived hot and mostly cooked to order. The Kansas City steak was more medium than medium rare as ordered. Our only disappointment were the vegetables. Per Charlie’s recommendation we ordered the brussel sprouts. They were not cooked enough; were very hard to cut and the onion flavor over powered everything else. The asparagus had not been trimmed and were also very under cooked to being almost raw. The fries were not delivered to our table with the rest of the meal but Charlie jumped right on it and had the manager follow up to see where they were. The manager brought them right out. We eat at Riverstone regularly and will be back. We just wanted to let you know what we experienced.
I am ever so pleased you use recyclables for your doggie bags. Thank you!!!!
All of our Children are home for Christmas and we just moved to the Suffolk area from there family home.We wanted to start our holiday in there new home with a beautiful restaurant
We can have our traditional Christmas Eve dinner.Riverfront restaurant did this and more. The food was delicious but more than that the service was so outstanding. The service was perfect bc it was very conscious of professionalism without overwhelming our comfort. So cozy, welcoming and downright scrumptious. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
The Schirmer Family.
Overall great, except I think the $30 cork fee is excessive, especially since I called ahead of time & they told me it was $10
The kitchen was very slow and the noise level was high in the restaurant. Overall, the experience was good, but would have been better if it had been quicker.
Good food and overall service. Seating was a little awkward. Our table was oddly positioned in the opening of the dining area and we caught all the cold air from outside because we were aligned to the doorway entry. Also it appeared that wait staff had some issues getting around our table as a few of them dropped silverware when going by the table.
The busboy did an amazing job and took care of us most of the evening, doing what the server should have done. We had a difficult time getting a hold of the server throughout the evening. At first, she completely ignore my dinner date and when she finally came to take our appetizer leftovers in a to-go box, we didn't get a ticket and it was not placed with the rest of the food to bring home. The busboy on the other hand, came to fill our drinks, clear the table, ask if there was anything we needed, brought out bread & butter, took our leftovers from dinner & dessert & brought a ticket for us to pick it up after the meal. If I could have given the tip to him instead, I would have.
The food was good but my companion's steak was under-cooked. We were going to send it back but couldn't get a hold of the server until I was done with my dinner. The coffee we ordered at the same time a the dessert, did not arrive until after we had already paid and put on our jackets. The restaurant was not particularly busy.
I have been to the restaurant before with excellent service. This was the first time for my companion and we will unfortunately not return due to the service. The experience could easily have been remedied if the server had been available and attentive.
We called the restaurant first and was told they didn't have anything available. So we looked on open table to find some other place to eat. But we saw they have several opening. We did let them know when we got to the restaurant. We were told the specials but by the time the waitress took our dinner order they were out. And after she took our order she had to come back because they were out the mac and cheese. Overall food was good.
Birthday dinner with friends. Great service, great food. A bit loud with a couple of large tables but fine. Highly recommended
One of the nicest restaurants in the Portsmouth VA area. It, and its sister restaurant Vintage Tavern are our favorites when we visit (we’re former Portsmouth residents).
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary. It was not very busy due to it being Black Friday. Our waitress was very patient and took great care of us. My wife ordered the chef's special which was the surf and turf for one. I ordered the dry aged bone in ribeye. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. We each had a cup of coffee after dinner along with a slice of carrot cake to share. The coffee was freshly brewed. The carrot cake was the best either of us had ever eaten. The cake was so moist and the frosting was amazing. River Stone Chophouse was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. We will definitely return. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I brought my fiancé here for dinner after we got engaged. It was a truly special evening and our server provided great attention to us. This was more than a meal - it was an experience.
Great dining experience. Staff was wonderful. Ambience was outstanding. Highly recommend.
Food was a little pricey, but I expected that. The noise level was high and I was unable to talk to my significant other without raising my voice. The service was excellent and the food was great! Wine per glass was priced good. All in all a great night!
A wonderful evening with excellent food and service, as usual.
Service and food was superb l. Great dining experience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Look forward to dining for dinner. See you soon
Perfect choice for anniversary, birthday, 1st date or engagement.
We had a great time and our server was wonderful. We will return for another meal.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Not a place for children
Had the opportunity to take my husband and a close friend out for a celebratory dinner at River Stone Chophouse. If you have yet to try this local gem, it is a must visit! While it certainly ranges on the higher end of the spectrum, this is fine dining valued well and worth every penny.
If you are a first time visitor, I highly recommend the house special Ribeye steak. This is easily one of the best local steaks you will find. Quality meat, dry aged to tender perfection, perfectly seasoned and cooked. My husband and I shared this 22 oz beauty and still had leftovers.
Sides are A La Carte, but shareable. The Mac and Cheese is decadent, rich and delicious, but not over the top. The Mushrooms are a MUST try! Hands down the favorite side of the 4 we ordered. While I was very excited about the Brussel Sprouts with bacon onion jam, (I love all of these ingredients!) unfortunately they were excessively salty, and we were unable to eat them. If you do give them a try, I would recommend having a conversation with your waiter prior to ordering. They can usually work some magic with the kitchen and accommodate most requests.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Our server, Rachel, was very accommodating and even took the time to get additional insight into our wine choices from their in house expert, despite it being a busy service night.
Overall a great local choice! I would highly encourage a visit for your next special night out!
our salad, appetizer, and desert were excellent....however I had the porterhouse steak and my wife the lamb chops with brussels sprouts.... very disappointing....especially for the price....prices are equal to Peter Lugar steak house in NYC
This dinner was for my husbands birthday! All he wanted was Lobster! It was a beautiful 2lb Lobster and my Filet Mignon was all absolutely perfect. Charlie was our attending waiter and he was superb! We will definitely be back again... hopefully soon
The food was excellent, especially the prime rib. I was able to get it medium rare. My wife would go back just for the desserts. Our service was the only thing lacking. We had to search for our waiter to get drink refills and plates.
Wonderful place and great staff. Steaks are fantastic and I can’t wait to visit again.
I enjoyed it. Our server was perfect. Food was great. I think it was slightly over priced but was to be expected. The maple creme brûlée was hot garbage. Having been in the restaurant industry over a decade, I would have never sent out a curdled mess that tastes of pancake syrup and scrambled egg with sugar on top burnt to black. So, the evening was compromised by a terrible dessert, but overall ok. Never had this problem before.
Terrific service and while we were early your hosts was very respectful and informative of all admidities for the establishment, and the experience continued through to our waitress who is very respectful and is terrific with her adaptability which proven her knowledge, skill and ability to be a trendsetter for her field. Will be back again.
Presentation was very good. Prime rib and roast lamb very well done. I would have liked to have small chilled plates for salad, and fruit. However, it is very nice to have plates delivered to the table rather than picking them up at the buffet. Pastries and desserts were moist, and the mini biscuits were delicious. Lobster bisque had a little heat, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wait staff was there without being invasive. Nice to see that tables are well wiped, and dried. Chairs are dusted for crumbs every table change. I enjoyed my Bloody Mary, and noticed that others did as well.
The food was delicious!
We were dining for a special occasion. The cheese board was not worth the price. No bread served. We were given too big of a table for just 2 people.
