River Rock Ratings and Reviews
They were closed on the night that I made a reservation for ... I tried calling to verify the reservation by phone but they told me that they couldn't tell me anything before 5 PM. I called back later and no one answered the phone. The day of my get together, my friends got there and found that the place was closed. Party fail.
I had the rumaki appetizer, the mushroom raviolis and the asparagus. My brother had the caesar salad with chicken. Everything was delicious! The happy hour house chardonnay is Avalon from Napa. Nice! Food server was awesome. I live in Nor Cal but visit friends and family in So Cal often. We were having dinner before a 7PM wedding across the street.
River Rock was different from what I expected. I am in my 50's and wanted a place to meet a friend for a burger and a beer. First of all, there was a wedding going on there when I arrived. Ok. Not a big deal. Second, the place has a '70's vibe with the reddish carpet, disco ball and dark booths and tables. The tattoo covered servers, and most of the other customers, were also a surprise. Nicest people you could imagine. Great service. Lots of TVs to watch football. We had a great time. Don't let the looks fool you. The food was good, the service great, good drink specials and lots of TVs. This may be my Sunday afternoon football watching spot!
We made the reservation on Open Table and when we got there they said the dining room was closed for a special occasion and only had a tiny table in the bar with a bench as the only seat. So we sat next to each other with no room on the table staring at the bartender. Very disappointed.
Was shocked to see the menu was just a piece of paper and that the dinner menu consisted of mostly hamburgers. This would be the last place I would go to for a hamburger. The dinner plates themselves consisted of only 3 dishes; one which was a chicken dish. I usually never order chicken when out because it's something I make at home a lot. This was good but no presentation or nothing to brag about at all. When I go out to dinner with friends, we like to go somewhere where the food top notch and innovative. This was not. My other 2 friends with me were not impressed either. Since this area is opening restaurants with similar food, it would be nice to have a restaurant with gourmet food.
Great and friendly service. Food is better than expected and priced well. A nice alternative to the new and very noisy places on Ventura Blvd that offer no parking, but a $4 valet fee. This was a hassle free surprise and I'd recommend to anyone over 40 who doesn't like to scream or be bombarded by noisy places.
Came here for a ladies Sunday brunch. We had a reservation and when we showed up they were not prepared in the least bit. We were sat outside and told that a heater would be moved next to our table and it never was. We ordered mimosas as soon as we sat down. After 35 minutes of not receiving our drinks or putting an order in we left to another restaurant.
The food is very good, well priced. Drinks are good. They had a "rush" right after we were seated and there was only one server so it got bogged down. Kitchen staff seemed to come out and help. Bartender didn't want to help too much, could have made things better. Definitely worth a visit, great neighborhood restaurant. Chicken sandwich is awesome as is the burger.
I'm not sure why they took reservations through Open Table for that night as they were only open as a club that Saturday. They said it was normally held on Friday nights but since the last Friday was New Year's Day they moved it to Saturday. So we went to another restaurant
I found this restaurant to be alright. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't spectacular either. I like the overall decor and ambience of the place but the thing that really took away from the experience was the lack of timely service. Food took a long time for such an empty restaurant and there was no check up from the server throughout the meal. The meal ended up taking over 2 1/2 hours and most of it was due to waiting for the food and waiting for the server to take our order. I did enjoy the dessert which was smores and milkshakes but I wished the milkshake wasn't so sweet and the server should have told us the serving size of the stores was for 2-3 people so we didn't order more than we could finish. Overall a pleasant experience.
River Rock has been a go to restaurant for me. The food is excellent and the ambiance is charming. Except this last Saturday morning - We walked in to be greeted by 15 whooping and HOLLERING men. (A noise rating of 15 would be more appropriate for the assault we received when we walked in.) I'm all for the bar atmosphere, but this was out of control -- they were dominating the entire establishment. We tried to be gracious, but ultimately had to walk out. I don't know what to think about the management. We will go back - very cautiously.
I can only rate what I've experienced so I will try their brunch and wine another time; and I'm sure it's kid friendly as it's designed very socially but it was a really quiet place where we could hear each other talk no matter where we were. If there was music I didn't hear it and I prefer things just as they were; great place for conversations, excellent drinks and food, outstanding customer service. The layouts of the place is really set up so that anything can happen socially because it is not to wealthy in appearance but informal but nice. Very relaxing place; I'm very comfortable there. I've had dinner and drinks so far. No parking problems, an excellent waitress who we tipped very well for it. Totally nice people working there.
Horrible patio furniture. Dusty, unstable and uncomfortable.
Requested to be seated inside instead.
Limited customer service, few unprofessional employees. Employee yelling at another employee, unprofessional. Waitress took a while for our check and longer for our change .
if you arrive on saturday prior to 11:00am - forgetaboutit - you will not be admitted. last time at restaurant facility was well over twenty years ago, and in the evening.
at last, we were "let-in" (admitted) at 11:00am. save the staff on-duty, we had the place to ourselves. pleasantly quiet with surrounding not quite as remembered. serving staff were friendly and attentive with menu offerings, many. although seated in restaurant section, the personality-laced bar tender took time to visit our table sharing, which we felt was extraordinary and quite pleasant.
care of food-plate presentation was first rate, with like food quality and flavors.
overall experience was "we'll be back again!!"
We stayed at the Sportsman Lodge and invited our local friends to join us for dinner at the River Rock where we have had excellent food and service in the past. They were all so impressed with the food, the happy servers and the atmosphere for the evening. It turned out to be a quiet evening there but they had a DJ anyway and we all danced after dinner. Super fun and not only will we go back when in town, but now River Rock has more local raving fans!
