We waited 15 minutes for a server to come to our table. When nobody came I asked another server if we could order drinks. She took our drink order. When our server finally came she was kind and efficient.
We were a bit disappointed. The appetizers—burrata and meatballs— were just fair. The meatballs in particular were exceptionally greasy. Burrata kinda tasteless. The server recommended the fried chicken and it really wasn’t tasty—rather bland. Given the numerous exceptional restaurants in Chicago, it is unlikely we would return.
Always a joy to dine at RR. Always go with great anticipation.
Only critique is that the rest rooms seem to be miles away!
Love this place. The food is delicious, meat cooked so well, and the vegetables are always full of flavor. The waitress we had was beyond nice and took time to answer all our questions and provide suggestions.
This place is great! An excellent choice for tourists who want a good meal with a great view. The service was outstanding and the food was exceptional, although a bit pricey. Overall a must visit!
Great food & service. Items are family style. There was a live acoustic guitar player there the night we attended. The patio area is right on the river & offers beautiful views of both the river & city buildings.
The food was excellent and the staff was great! The weather was beautiful
On Sunny day, outside table is awesome
The only edible main was the roast chicken... everything else was tasteless and overcooked... the sides and appetisers were definitely better than the horrible mains... not worth the price and calories! Skip the cocktails as well.. never coming back!
Beautiful spot on the river and everything was delicious
Entertainment, cool views of the river and good food. Fried chicken sandwich was the bomb!
This is the best hummus ever!
The Stuffed Poblano pepper was amazing.
Black Beans, Corn, Cilantro,
Roasted Red Pepper Sauce
Everything was delicious! The roast chicken was very moist and we especially enjoyed the creamy, elote corn and crispy Brussels sprouts. The roasted potatoes that came with the chicken were outstanding. I recommend ordering only a few sides. The crudités was good but not worth the cost. Same with the chopped salad. The roasted peppers are tasty but a bit too spicy for my palate. It’s a very fun place to go—just watch how much you order because it can get quite expensive!
Great location, delicious food, courteous friendly service. Definitely recommended and will return
Great food, drinks and atmosphere!
On a beautiful day, you cannot beat their spot by the river. Service was excellent, fast and attentive. Food was terrific but a bit pricey for sandwiches and chips.
We enjoyed a fabulous table outside overlooking the river. Food was delicious. Excellent service.
I always bring friends and family from out of town to River Roast. Dinner and drinks as the sun sets and the buildings light up is a lovely sight.
Food mediocre...lobster sandwich a mush. Tastelessness for $22.00. Cosmopolitan cocktail not that good. Friend wanted medium rare burger but they could not prepare that way, it was well done, but delicious. Received carrott cake for desert
..heavy very little flavor even the frosting was bland.
But the ambience and service very nice.
One of our favorite places to go, never disappoints
It was a birthday celebration for my daughter prior to a concert, I had put on the reservation that my daughter had a gluten allergy but when we got there and spoke with our waitress she seemed to not have a clue what my daughter could safely eat! After much discussion we were able to figure one item on the menu that might be safe! The waitress was gone a lot and we waited ages to get out check! Food was tasty but not sure I would go back
Loud because of the live music
Great experience, delicious food and drinks. Highly recommend!!
Get the Bloody Mary!
We ate at River Roast on a Saturday around 9:00 PM. The crowd was moderate and the ambiance was great. We ate inside due to rain but the atmosphere was great. The food was outstanding. For appetizers, we had Farmers Market Crudite and the Steamed Mussels. For the main course, we selected the roasting menu. Our selections were the Seafood Boil (great for two to share) and the roasted whole fish which was the Barramundi. The Seafood boil was delicious with steamed fish, mussels, shrimp, potato and andouille sausage, with moderate seasoning. The whole fish was light flaky and season nicely. The beer selection appeared to better than the wine selections, but overall a great dining experience. It's a good spot for a date or a group of friends especially on a warm night along the Chicago River.
Jazz group was so loud at 1:30 lunch we couldn’t easily talk during our lunch. Group was very good, just too
loud for a lunch with family and friends.
Better for lunch or dinner not necessarily breakfast
Beautiful view on the patio - worth waiting for the outdoor tables or coming for dinner in the evening and enjoying the smoked food options
We had the Scotch eggs, shrimp po'boy, and the baked french toast. They were very delicious. We also had the roast beef but this one is a bit hard to chew. Overall it was great! Got to sit by the river at the patio enjoying the live Jazz performance. Will come again!
Very attentive server! Great food and views!
great venue. sat outside. beautiful day. waitress was great, server alittle confused, or didnt care. Overall , fun time
The food was amazing. I know that their policy is 1st come 1st serve on the outdoor patio, however, they didnt read my special instructions left on Open table around it being an an important wedding anniversary and how they could have saved 1 table on the outdoor patio at 8pm for dinner.
Food and wait staff were great. The hostess was confusing and even with a reservation and empty tables we waited 20-30 minutes for a table.
Brunch food and live blues music were great.
Waitress not at all concerned when she dumped a drink on our table.
Unfriendly table seating staff.
Food was cold.
Prime Rib Steak was almost rare (waitress did not asked how to prepare the steak.
I was hoping to be more excited with our meal, but everything was somewhat dry and not that flavorful.
Food delicious- cosmopolitan drink very bad - they try to clear the plates too soon and keep returning and trying again - most annoying- friendly waitress
Went with my family for my dad’s 75th birthday. It was our 1st time. Unfortunately we didn’t initially get to sit on the patio for dinner but put our name down for the wait list and we were able to close our bill out and enjoy dessert outside. It was a beautiful day! Amazing views of the river. Dinner was excellent! Quality food! We had the large rotisserie chicken and 3 sides of different veggies. Everything was delicious! Service was great. Wait staff very attentive. I had the bannana/strawberry ice cream. My other family members had the key lime pie and s’mores ice cream sandwich. Large portions and everyone enjoyed their dessert. Overall great experience. Definitely recommend if you are in the city.
We chose to do the family style option. The roast beef was excellent. The chicken was good. We also had the brussel sprouts which were ok. The corn was superb. The serving staff were great.
Food is good, just too much of it. My server was very pleasant but did not help me understand, when I ordered two sides, that one side was enough for two or more. Especially when I discussed getting a small appetizer and she referred me to the tomato and artichoke salad. It was very good but not small at all. The beef was done beautifully.
