Asked for medium well prime rib and got well done instead. Wine selection was horrible. Tasted potatoes were really good.
The food here is always fabulous! I was here with an out of town colleague for lunch and we had great service and enjoyed the menu selections. Every time I have been here and brought guests they have loved it. Great job to all the friendly and talented staff at River Roast.
We would like to see more variety in the entrees menu.
The service could have been a little more attentive but overall we were very happy. The atmosphere was great, the food was great and the music was perfect. We will definitely be back.
Had a reservation for 6ppl and we were seated right behind the greeters and register...which made everyone glance at one another awkwardly. Long story short, we wished we could have been seated in an better area because the ambiance was good as well as the food. Our server was personable and attentive to everyone. Good music was played that made you feel relaxed. Menu was a little shorter than expected by still some good choices that will leave you satisfied. Overall my wife and daughter enjoyed themselves which means we will return.....with expectations of better seating with our reservations.
It was our 38th wedding anniversary, (which also happens to be on Valentine's Day) and we were reminded of that when our server came around. This left us with an expectation that there would at least be a free dessert at the end of the our meal. Otherwise, why mention it? The food was good and the staff accommodating. However, we have many choices where to celebrate Valentine's Day and our Anniversary. I am disappointed that there was not some sort of tangible recognition given to our 38th anniversary ... it just ended up being another evening eating out. I would recommend this as a good place for business dinners, but it was not special from a personal point of view.
Great! Would go back again. No wonder it has been on the Food Channel twice!
Good food but they are trying too hard, need a few mainstream items on the menu. If you’re a picky eater there is not much for you.
The prime rib was AMAZING! However, our server only seemed interested in the tables with bigger groups. She only checked on us one time the whole time we were there.
Outstanding food and atmosphere
Amazing! So much fun and service was incredible. Made our friends birthday so special.
Requested high top seating. Was seated at a regular table despite multiple high tops being open. Food on restaurant week menu was average-cinnamon roll tasted good but came out cold. Biscuit with pork sausage was unexpectedly most gravy. Was overcharged for one drink but server never came back after dropping off check to correct bill.
We love coming here usually but what’s happened? The prices seemed to have hiked out of proportion for what you get. We had chicken, roast potatoes and shared a dessert. My appetizer didn’t have much chicken. The rest of the food was nice as usual. Just concerned the cost is high. The place was half empty too. Don’t price yourself out the market. Best be full, reasonably priced and great atmosphere. Than expensive and half empty!!!
The food was great as usual! The presentation is on point and the food is to die for - best restaurant in Chicago!
If you like Cubano sandwiches, this is your place. They are incredible every time. The pot pies are also great comfort food, though if you go for lunch, it may make for a sleepy afternoon at work. Food and service is always great!
Fantastic! Food was delicious. Right on the lake, very cozy atmosphere. A little on the pricey side but we knew that going in and you get what you pay for. Will be going back when the weather is nice and we can sit outside.
This was our second visit to River Roast. Our first experience was a brunch during the summer, overlooking the Chicago River. The food was great and my husband said it was the best Bloody Mary he’d ever had. On the strength of that very positive experience, we returned for dinner. We both had the prix fixe. I had the pork shank and my husband had the short ribs - both were perfectly cooked!
We’ll be back again!
Great service from everyone, especially our server Witty and the manager. We came for the entertainment but now we have a great place to eat downtown. Thank you!
Went for s special bday, I spoke with a staff member and they said they did special bday services?? not sure what he meant. As when our night was rapping up I kept looking at them and NOTHING happened! Not sure why but a little cupcake , candle something was kind of expected but I left disappointed.
Food was great and service was on point.
Went there early on a Sunday and the table had a nice river view. Staff was friendly and extremely attentive. Food was delicious. Especially notable was the wide range of shareable desserts, all equally tempting! We got the cobbler and it was excellent. Love the concept of a large shared dessert, instead of splitting multiple small portions.
Awesome live band!
The roasted chicken was good, but the potatoes that came with it were dry and overly fried. The flavor of the chicken was really good, so it sort of made up for it. We also had the hash, which tasted more like a salsa. We were not pleased with that menu item, but really loved the live music and ambiance.
The restaurant week menu provided a wonderful tasting of what the restaurant offers. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Convenient, good food and service. Excellent place for business lunch
I booked a table for party of 13 and we had a birthday guy. They were gave him a shot and big slice of carrot cake that we all shared. This is our 4th time to come as big group without any minimum F&B which is great. Thank you.
Great spot for big groups! I had picky people with me and they enjoying the selection of meats and sides! I’m happy they were impressed!
Just engaged and would love to be married here!
We brunched here to celebrate a promotion and it was such a fun time. There was incredible live music. And the cocktails, charcuterie board and pork shank are some of the highlights of a fantastic meal. Will come again!
This was our first time at the restaurant. The server got our drinks (which keep in mind, not free refills for pop) and never offered a fresh glass or ice, just given the sprite/Diet Pepsi bottle. We were never told about the specials or menu until we asked but in my opinion the server should have picked up on our lack of knowledge about the place when there were four of us and ordered the meatballs, which we were notified there were two. We proceeded to order a second app, which worked out fine. When she can back to take our order we explained we were newbies and asked more about the menu, popular items, her favorite specials, etc. the first thing she told us was about something that wasn’t even on the menu. She tried to defend herself by saying she just got back from vacation, ok? Is that an excuse? She also told us the pot roast served 1-2... the four of us couldn’t even finish it! She tried to tell us about a couple other items on the menu but she couldn’t sell us in anything. Very subpar service when you spend $230 on dinner! Flavor was ok but certainly didn’t make up for the servers lack of knowledge. Also, didn’t help that we saw a rat scurry across their patio from our river view. Yikes!
This is our second visit to this restaurant. The food is outstanding, the price is fair and the restaurant setting is perfect. Love the views of the river. Highly recommend!
It was just a fun place with great food. The service was great too.
Had the chicken and waffles Still looking for the chicken. More breading than chicken. Very disappointed
It was just Okay
I absolutely loved eating here with my family. Great food and service.
Love this place. Possibly a place where my new finance and I get married so very invested in it!!
Our waitress Destiny made our night very pleasant and welcoming! Service was excellent and food as always. We enjoyed it every time.
Great food and easily split between guests. Our table of 4 split the chicken, pork shank and acorn squash with yummy carrots.
We were very much looking forward to this dinner, and arrived early to have an appetizer and drink at the bar. However, from the very start we were not made to feel welcome. Staff was cold, and eventually down right rude and condescending. We paid almost $100 for 4 cocktails and a mediocre appetizer, and ended up leaving before we ate. Our waitress decided were not going to get a second drink until our food came (we were not being loud or unruly, just jovial) but instead of politely telling us, she just ignored us. When we finally flagged her down she hissed that the more we waved the longer we would wait. We paid for what we’d eaten/drank and left. She sent the bartender after us, but after agreeing we were square he let us go.
I absolutely loved this restaurant. The family-style sharing of outstanding roasts is fun and delicious. The lamb shank literally fell off the bone, and the prime rib could have been cut with a butter knife. Good sides. Service was friendly, attentive, but never intrusive. Excellent about adjusting sides to meet gluten & dairy free dietary restrictions. River views great, even on a winter night. We'll be back!
