We had a beautiful table by the window. Watching the Truckee River run by. It was so awesome. Our server was very attentive, happy, friendly. Really enjoyed our dinner
Dining in the bar is one of my favorite places in the area. I’m a sucker for ambiance and this has it.
We had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner with our his there.
Best table Oscar by the window. That way you can see the Truckee River. They have lights pointing at the river at night so you can see it when it gets dark.
Meals were expensive for what you got...but delicious. Plan on spending at least 250 for 4 people and that’s without drinks or dessert. Would we go back? Probably but went bc we hadn’t been before.
Thank you for your review! We look forward to seeing you again soon! Let us know when you'll be back and we will make sure to make your visit extra special!
Unfortunately for us, we arrived for dinner as a large golfing party was enjoying their end of day event out on the patio so the service in the dining room was very, very slow. There seemed to be only one waitress for all the patrons inside which made for such slow service that became annoying. A table of gentlemen behind us that had multiple bottles of wine on their table seemed to be garnering most of the waitress' attention, as they insisted she try their wine, which was also annoying. My guest ordered the burger ... asked for it to be medium well ... received it so well done it was difficult to chew. The lettuce on the burger was burnt (I suspect from sitting too long under the warming lights), which made for a very unappetizing dish. You'd think the waitress or someone in the kitchen would have noticed that and corrected it. By the time we could get the waitress' attention to point this out, my friend had to eat what she could. To her credit, the waitress removed the charge for the burger from the bill, but stated she wished we had told her sooner. Well ... we would have if she had come by our table to ask how our dinner was! Anyway, really disappointed on our annual trip to the River Ranch and sorry to say that we're not sure we will venture there again.
Hi Julz, thank you for voicing your concerns and feedback. We sincerely apologize that you felt mistreated, this is not reflective of a normal dinner experience for our guests at the River Ranch. We would truly love to make it up to you! Please let us know if you are coming in again and we will make sure your experience is extra special. We look forward to you giving us another try and we promise the experience will be much better.
We have enjoyed the River Ranch before during our annual stays at Tahoe. Everything was great including our table overlooking the Truckee River. Highly recommend.
Food was very good and the service was very good also
Outstanding experience in all respects. Lovely setting overlooking the river, and everything we ordered was prepared to perfection. Our server was attentive and very courteous.
We were seated on the patio near the water -- a very beautiful setting as the sun went down. The staff was very nice, attentive and all smiles. Everyone looked like they enjoyed their jobs! I would have rated the restaurant higher, but the food was a bit mediocre and somewhat over-priced. I had the Ranch Gourmet Stroganoff with tenderloin. The overall flavor was good, but the beef was rubbery and a bit gamy tasting, the noodles were too al dente, and there were hardly any mushrooms (disappointing, because I love mushrooms). My husband had the Elk, which he thought was fairly good and presented well. Even so, I think he was expecting more from a $40 meal. The desserts were absolutely wonderful and beautifully presented! The Nutella cake was the best!
Food is pretty good and sitting outside by the river is a highlight
Go for the ambiance and view out the window of the river. Order a cocktail or a glass of wine and enjoy a burger! This is a place that doesn't quite get the higher end food compilations and a little pricy for what you get. It's worth the trip for sure but keep the menu options simple.
Thank you for voicing your concerns and feedback. We have a number of quality entrees on our dinner menu. We use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, and many of our chops and seafood options are organic, free range, and hormone free. Please let us know if you are coming in again and we will make sure your experience is extra special.
This place is worn out and dreary. Cancelled dinner table when we got there and just ha nachos at the bar. They were awful. Bartender was rude. Very disappointing experience
Great spot for river view. Old school Tahoe. Location location location!!!
Food was good, not extraordinary, but good. Service—we ordered an appetizer and when the main course arrived the appetizer hadn’t come. We told them to forget it. Ordered a glass of wine and half way through the meal still no wine. Asked again and it finally came. It was not crowded, so I assume this is their standard service.
Beautiful view of the river and the restaurant is attractive with great outside seating. We sat inside and requested a river view table which we got. Also mentioned in the reservation was that it was my husbands 80th birthday. I thought they might put a candle in his dessert or comp the dessert but they didn’t do either. This restaurant needs more attention to detail.
Don’t waste your time or money. We were highly disappointed with this place. Wanted to sit outside as we had just arrived in the area for vacation, but were told by the ‘less than friendly’ hostess that the patio closed at 5:00 (we arrived at 6:30 for our reservation). Odd for a Sunday in the peak of summer. Disappointed but we decided to stay. About 5 minutes after ordering our dinner, 2 tables were seated outside. Really?! We asked our waiter how this was possible since it was closed - he went to ask, and came back to say that we had to ‘request’ outdoor seating when making our reservation. Not what the hostess told us, and no where on their website can I find this detail. Highly disappointed that the manager didn’t even stop by to apologize.
The food is average, at best and more expensive than it’s worth. The final straw for me was just before leaving, I stopped in the restroom which was dirty and out of toilet paper! Will NOT return.
The main courses we had were Rack of Elk and Halibut which were both very good. The cheesecake they gave us had been in the refrigerator for about a week and we sent it back. They also gave our reservation for a table on the river to someone else so we had to sit inside which spoiled the reason for going there on our anniversary, and they didn't seem all that concerned about it.
Our server was great though.
Had a very nice evening.
You definitely can't beat the view. Depending on when you come, hi energy local with great back patio (dogs welcome :) Very good food.
Great spot. Excellent food.
The only place we go when up at the lake. The service and food are wonderful. Definite must place to go.
We were at the resturant to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of a family member. The resturant called three days prior to confirm the reservation and I stated that we were coming to celebrate an anniversary. When we arrived the hostess the acknowledged that we were there to celebrate the anniversary and would let our server know. It never happened. When I approached the hostess she stated that the servers don’t check open table Reservations, I found this was very inappropriate.
Why are open table reservation treated so different by this resturant. I am not happy how We were handled. No apologies were offer when we left.
My husband and I drove from Roseville for a “date night”. Ambiance of the river is breathtaking. The food was fabulous as was our waitress and servers. All had great personalities and we’re down to earth! We would definitely go back.
Jimmy our server was exceptional.
The food was excellent.
We enjoyed a table by the window allowing for a fantastic view of the river.
Very calming listening to the flow of the river.
Incredibly reasonably priced.
Food was very good
Waiter was not a personable person tried to rush us had to call him on it then he never came around
The rest of the experience was great
I already recommended it to all my family and friends. We sat outside by the River and it was an amazing night. Very romantic and that's what we were looking for! :)
Bartender was also GREAT, I had the Bison short ribs and they just fell off the bone...I can't wait to go back for a party!
The ambiance on the patio is to die for - beautiful river, mountains, fresh air! Food is so delicious, we loved it and returned the following evening for another meal - again such a tasty experience! Attentive service, everyone is friendly.
Excellent food, great service beautiful setting
Our table was on the river which is always beautiful! The food was excellent and plentiful. Our server was attentive without being a nuisance. The ONLY complaint was that it was a quiet night and the woman behind me was LOUD! River Ranch has become our anniversary tradition - celebrating 30 years!
The entrees that were available were very good. However they ran out of steak and flatbread which then meant a couple of other options were not available. They also had run out of propane so no outdoor space heaters. The location is lovely.
Beautiful patio overlooking the river. Great food and wine list. Service was amazing. We were staying at the River Ranch lodge and liked it so much we ate there two nights in a row.
Such a wonderful setting, beautiful weather and delicious food. We started with nachos and had dinner. Both the halibut and the Buffalo short ribs and they were both so fabulous. Hope to return to the area and this restaurant again!! STU was our waiter and he was the coolest!! (And an efficient waiter😊)
We requested a window table along the river and that is what we got. Upon arrival, we had to find a host/hostess to seat us as nobody was at the front desk. The bartender finally came overt and seated us.
We were provided menus and offered beverages fairly rapidly. The wait staff was very slow and we had to request bread for the table 3 times. Food portions were more than adequate and served hot and were very flavorful. Very nice wine list. Will go back as long as as I am looking for good food and ambiance and not in a hurry.
Restaurant is cozy with an excellent view of the river. Food was mediocre with nothing exciting on the menu. Service was terrible. Our server seemed irritated that we were there, was slow, did not check on us, and then dropped our check on our table before clearing our dinner dishes and did not offer desert, despite my letting the hostess know it was my husband's birthday. I would return for drinks, but definitely not for dinner, especially a celebration.
This was our first visit. We were in Tahoe for the Easter weekend and went for brunch. We found the food underwhelming. I ordered the sweet potato chorizo hash. The hash was great, but the eggs overdone. I ordered my eggs over medium and got over well with the yolks broken. My husband ordered eggs Benedict and asked for his eggs poached soft. His eggs were poached hard. The yolk was like that of a hard boiled egg. Our server was wonderful. She was very attentive and polite.
The ambiance is great as it sits right by the river which was running really fast. The only reason we would return would be for a drink on the patio.
We had an amazing meal with an amazing view!! We will definitely be back to enjoy this great restaurant.
Very atmospheric old-school large with heavy Timbers, rushing river right outside the door, great staff, ample portions, really well cooked.
Excellent food, wonderful rustic ambience an e with fireplace and river view. Layed back casual atmosphere
and staff but also attentive and accommodating. Best dinner in quite along time!
Great view and ambiance, service is great, food is ok. Nothing insane for the prices.
