River Ranch Lodge & Restaurant
Food is pretty good and sitting outside by the river is a highlight
Great spot for river view. Old school Tahoe. Location location location!!!
Food was good, not extraordinary, but good. Service—we ordered an appetizer and when the main course arrived the appetizer hadn’t come. We told them to forget it. Ordered a glass of wine and half way through the meal still no wine. Asked again and it finally came. It was not crowded, so I assume this is their standard service.
Beautiful view of the river and the restaurant is attractive with great outside seating. We sat inside and requested a river view table which we got. Also mentioned in the reservation was that it was my husbands 80th birthday. I thought they might put a candle in his dessert or comp the dessert but they didn’t do either. This restaurant needs more attention to detail.
Don’t waste your time or money. We were highly disappointed with this place. Wanted to sit outside as we had just arrived in the area for vacation, but were told by the ‘less than friendly’ hostess that the patio closed at 5:00 (we arrived at 6:30 for our reservation). Odd for a Sunday in the peak of summer. Disappointed but we decided to stay. About 5 minutes after ordering our dinner, 2 tables were seated outside. Really?! We asked our waiter how this was possible since it was closed - he went to ask, and came back to say that we had to ‘request’ outdoor seating when making our reservation. Not what the hostess told us, and no where on their website can I find this detail. Highly disappointed that the manager didn’t even stop by to apologize.
The food is average, at best and more expensive than it’s worth. The final straw for me was just before leaving, I stopped in the restroom which was dirty and out of toilet paper! Will NOT return.
The main courses we had were Rack of Elk and Halibut which were both very good. The cheesecake they gave us had been in the refrigerator for about a week and we sent it back. They also gave our reservation for a table on the river to someone else so we had to sit inside which spoiled the reason for going there on our anniversary, and they didn't seem all that concerned about it.
Our server was great though.
Had a very nice evening.
You definitely can't beat the view. Depending on when you come, hi energy local with great back patio (dogs welcome :) Very good food.
Great spot. Excellent food.
We were at the resturant to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of a family member. The resturant called three days prior to confirm the reservation and I stated that we were coming to celebrate an anniversary. When we arrived the hostess the acknowledged that we were there to celebrate the anniversary and would let our server know. It never happened. When I approached the hostess she stated that the servers don’t check open table Reservations, I found this was very inappropriate.
Why are open table reservation treated so different by this resturant. I am not happy how We were handled. No apologies were offer when we left.
My husband and I drove from Roseville for a “date night”. Ambiance of the river is breathtaking. The food was fabulous as was our waitress and servers. All had great personalities and we’re down to earth! We would definitely go back.
Jimmy our server was exceptional.
The food was excellent.
We enjoyed a table by the window allowing for a fantastic view of the river.
Very calming listening to the flow of the river.
Incredibly reasonably priced.
Food was very good
Waiter was not a personable person tried to rush us had to call him on it then he never came around
The rest of the experience was great
I already recommended it to all my family and friends. We sat outside by the River and it was an amazing night. Very romantic and that's what we were looking for! :)
Bartender was also GREAT, I had the Bison short ribs and they just fell off the bone...I can't wait to go back for a party!
The ambiance on the patio is to die for - beautiful river, mountains, fresh air! Food is so delicious, we loved it and returned the following evening for another meal - again such a tasty experience! Attentive service, everyone is friendly.
Excellent food, great service beautiful setting
Our table was on the river which is always beautiful! The food was excellent and plentiful. Our server was attentive without being a nuisance. The ONLY complaint was that it was a quiet night and the woman behind me was LOUD! River Ranch has become our anniversary tradition - celebrating 30 years!
The entrees that were available were very good. However they ran out of steak and flatbread which then meant a couple of other options were not available. They also had run out of propane so no outdoor space heaters. The location is lovely.
Beautiful patio overlooking the river. Great food and wine list. Service was amazing. We were staying at the River Ranch lodge and liked it so much we ate there two nights in a row.
Such a wonderful setting, beautiful weather and delicious food. We started with nachos and had dinner. Both the halibut and the Buffalo short ribs and they were both so fabulous. Hope to return to the area and this restaurant again!! STU was our waiter and he was the coolest!! (And an efficient waiter😊)
We requested a window table along the river and that is what we got. Upon arrival, we had to find a host/hostess to seat us as nobody was at the front desk. The bartender finally came overt and seated us.
We were provided menus and offered beverages fairly rapidly. The wait staff was very slow and we had to request bread for the table 3 times. Food portions were more than adequate and served hot and were very flavorful. Very nice wine list. Will go back as long as as I am looking for good food and ambiance and not in a hurry.
Restaurant is cozy with an excellent view of the river. Food was mediocre with nothing exciting on the menu. Service was terrible. Our server seemed irritated that we were there, was slow, did not check on us, and then dropped our check on our table before clearing our dinner dishes and did not offer desert, despite my letting the hostess know it was my husband's birthday. I would return for drinks, but definitely not for dinner, especially a celebration.
This was our first visit. We were in Tahoe for the Easter weekend and went for brunch. We found the food underwhelming. I ordered the sweet potato chorizo hash. The hash was great, but the eggs overdone. I ordered my eggs over medium and got over well with the yolks broken. My husband ordered eggs Benedict and asked for his eggs poached soft. His eggs were poached hard. The yolk was like that of a hard boiled egg. Our server was wonderful. She was very attentive and polite.
The ambiance is great as it sits right by the river which was running really fast. The only reason we would return would be for a drink on the patio.
We had an amazing meal with an amazing view!! We will definitely be back to enjoy this great restaurant.
Very atmospheric old-school large with heavy Timbers, rushing river right outside the door, great staff, ample portions, really well cooked.
Excellent food, wonderful rustic ambience an e with fireplace and river view. Layed back casual atmosphere
and staff but also attentive and accommodating. Best dinner in quite along time!
Great view and ambiance, service is great, food is ok. Nothing insane for the prices.
The Elk was AMAZING..... (next time I would probably sub the fingerling potatoes for mashed or more veggies) but the Elk itself was so flavorful, cooked perfectly pink in the middle with a nice char/glaze on outside)
We also had the mushroom stroganoff, which is by far the BEST stroganoff I have ever had. Second best pasta I’ve had in my life but hard to beat sitting in a small square in Belgium eating amazing food in the sunshine. So mushroom stroganoff at River Ranch will just have to settle for second best, which means crazy delicious and soul warming.
All in all we had a great meal and the portions were very very generous.
Great views, very good food and service. Main course plates are huge it worth sharing. Will definitely come again.
Dinner and wine were great, service was spot on. Dining room was cold, even at a table near the fireplace, not nice in the middle of winter. Also, Wednesday Night happy hour crowd announcer in the bar was terribly distracting and loud.
I absolutely love River Ranch and ALWAYS plan dinner here when I ski Squaw. The location is amazing, nestled up against the roaring river. The building is nostalgic and takes you back in time. Superb food and service which makes this experience one you do not want to miss.
The once excellent restaurant has gone down hill a LOT.
Great food with generous portions. Friendly service.
We were flooded out of our house in Alpine Meadows so stayed at River Ranch for the night. It’s our go to comfort place of many years and lived up to that name. The food was delicious-we had the risotto special and a soup. The soup was salty for me but my husband loved it. All around a fun experience!
We had the teriyaki steak app, which was amazing, cooked rare and hot and seasoned perfectly but the jasmine rice was crunchy but dry, so we didn't like that so much.
I had the short ribs for my entree which was awesome and perfectly cooked but my friend had the salmon entree. It was a generous helping and cooked perfectly but the quinoa salad that was under the salmon was not to his liking-weird flavor he says
The service was amazing - all the personnel at the River Ranch go above and beyond.
The food was excellent. My husband tried the Elk, and loved it. I tried the stroganoff and it tasted homemade. The views are amazing. We were snowed in for a couple of days. What a great place to be stuck!
Grateful it was open in the middle of a blizzard. Everything was delicious with the exception of the halibut fish tacos. They were over-cooked and not moist.
River Ranch holds a special place in our hearts!
Excellent service and timing. The chef's specials are always memorable.
