It is the vision of award-winning chef and restaurateur John Varanese and seats 330 in its main dining room, raw bar, and patio. Guests experience a charming “home like” atmosphere as they enter the restaurant from the front porch garden area. Enter through a 20-foot tall by 40-foot wide water wall, and enjoy intimate decor, and a floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooking the back courtyard and river, River House is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. The menu features regional cuisine with a Southern flair and an emphasis on fresh seafood including Grilled Oysters on the Half Shell, BBQ Braised Beef Short Rib, and the Maker’s Mark Bourbon Barrel Smoked Salmon. First time there. The food was excellent. We chose to sit out in the heated porch area to see the river. It was nice and we saw a Bald Eagle. Next time we'll ask to sit near one of the fire pit since it was a little chilly.

I love the restaurant and we will return often. The only recommendation I would like to make is to fill a martini glass rather than leave it 1/3 short. Charge more than $8, of course, but don't make a patron have to order a second one.

Hands down the best meal we had while in Louisville. All six people in our party loved everything served. Our waitress was amazing, attentive, very knowledgeable, and quick. If you go make sure to try the red velvet cheesecake!

We were so disappointed by the food. We ordered oysters and peel n eat shrimp for appetizers, it was so bad that I cancelled my seafood entree. The shrimp were total rubber. The oysters slimy and tasteless. My husband still had his salmon, which was ok, vegetables were so over cooked they were unrecognizable. The corn bread was good. Our server was very friendly and efficient. I selected this place because I wanted a view of the water. Any glimpse of the water would have been fine. Our table was in the back of restaurant that has fake photos on the windows to black the view of the parking lot. A mall food court has more atmosphere. All I can say is don’t go, just don’t.

Had reservation for 6 to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday. Yes reservations states celebrating birthday. Fully expecting to sit in the actual restaurant. Instead we were seated on the enclosed patio. Outdoor temp 30°. Then to have teenagers keep opening the doors and letting cold air in, made the evening blah!!!! Food was excellent service was impeccable!!! But the lack of ambiance just made the dinner feel uneventful.

I took my daughter here for lunch. I ordered the salmon croquet sandwich. It really didn’t have much flavor. The sweet potato fries were not great either. They tasted like those frozen ones heated up. My daughter ordered the croquettes on risotto. She like here meal but also said it was a little bland. The service was good with a great atmosphere sitting on the porch with a bonfire.

Upon arrival the staff was very attentive and we were seated within minutes of arrival. Once seated the view of the river was great. It took at least 10 minutes for our waiter. But it was cool! He served water and then we waited again to order our drinks and appetizers. The smoky old fashion with Booker was phenomenal. Very very strong. As i was drinking my drink I found a piece of plastic wrap in my drink☺️. The waiter was very apologetic and offered me another and because it was close to the end of dinner I declined. I ordered NY strip steak cooked to my liking. Had great flavor, fried Mac and cheese(not cheesy) but okay and season veggies. Pretty good. My husband- beef short ribs (tender enough to cut with fork), mash potatoes and veggies. Overall is was a great might! To finish a banana pudding with whip cream for my birthday

River House doesn’t miss! All you can eat crab legs for a great price. From the kitchen to the table before you could finish pronouncing the B in crab. Our server was funny and very informational about the menu knowing the menu forward and back. I’ve made that 45 minute drive to river house and I’ll do it again!

Arrived early and sat for 40 minutes. Our reservation was at 6:30, but we heard people walking in with 7:00 reservations and were seated immediately. People without reservations came in and we’re told it would be a 20 min wait, which makes no sense since we had been their for 40 mins. We were there for a birthday celebration, but our person with the birthday decided she didn’t like how this was all playing out and asked for us to take her to another restaurant. We’ve had these reservations for a month and we’re very disappointed.

The service and atmosphere were fantastic! It was a bit noisy but it was a full house so that's to be expected. The only downside to our experience was how incredibly salty and burnt our steaks were. My father got the ribeye and his was much saltier than my New York strip, but my strip was over charred and the bacon on top was so burnt it was inedible. Everything else was great.
