Tower of crab is out of this world. Chef has the best short rib in town along with the freshest seafood. We are there 2-3 times a week!
Delicious dinner! Beautiful outdoor dining!
Loved our night out.
10th wedding anniversary
Fun, busy, space. Food was outstanding. Highlight of the evening was the server, knew the menu inside and out.
River House was amazing. We did call to try to get reservations and they said they were booked for the evening. We decided to go ahead and drive over to look at the view and we were able to get seated right away on the outside patio!! EXCELLENT!!!
Great food and service while sitting outside by the Ohio River
The food was perfect. The atmosphere inviting and the staff was exemplary. My favorite appetizer is the phyllo-encrusted brie.
Great evening as always. Later dinner than initially planned so the server suggested adding some shrimp to the salad instead of just the salad! Had never been given that option before!!!! Just the right amount for later night meals!
We celebrated a friend’s 70th birthday!
Great food and berry mojito. We had the bacon wrapped tenderloin and it was delicious. Expensive but worth it and would go again .
Excellent meal. We ate on the patio overlooking the river. Beautiful!
The food we ordered was all tasty and the waiter was attentive but didn’t want to chat which was ideal for us. The seafood tower appetizer, or whatever they call it here, was overpriced and was a bit subpar in our opinion. Overall we had a good experience and may return for special occasions as it’s a bit pricey.
Excellent scenic location on the river. Food was very good.
Visited with a friend for Sunday recently and found the service to be attentive and helpful, but the food to be just so-so. The poached eggs on my hash arrived close to hard-boiled, and so were the eggs on my friend's salmon Benedict. Both both were still tasty. I hope to return to try seafood choices on the menu. Nice place, but parking can be confusing.
Went for brunch. The steak was over cooked and had little flavor. Switched it out for a different dish and the eggs were over cooked. The waitress was very nice and accommodating.
We were there for brunch, a third visit for this Sunday meal. We have the impression that they really don't like to serve brunch. Omelets were underwhelming and potatoes cold for the second time. Lunch and dinner were much better! Outdoor patio is lovely and our favorite aspect of this restaurant.
Everything we ordered was perfect and delish! Service from Tiffany was outstanding. The raw bar is great and the complementary corn bread with sorghum butter...to die for!
We had been to John Varanese's other restaurant, Varanese before, but had never tried River House. We took a chance to try River House for their Sunday morning brunch. Doors open right at 11:00. You can still choose from their lunch menu, as other patrons around us did - but we were interested in their short, but awesome brunch menu. I had the River House omelet (FABULOUS), and my husband had the banana/nut french toast (which he agreed was FABULOUS, too). We enjoyed a sparkling sangria (me) and a mimosa (husband), as well as fresh brewed coffee. The skillet cornbread, that comes out to the table, along with the molasses butter - was also amazing. Friendly, courteous staff, and a nice view late on a Sunday morning. Highly recommended.
Food was good. The problems were slow service and the fact that where we were seated outside we could hear both King Fish's live outdoor music and Levee's live indoor music. Made for a frustrating experience. It took 30 minutes to get a drink after being seated and a second drink ordered later in the meal never arrived.
Took my 90 year old mother in law, along with family. Had requested a water view table (DID NOT GET). Food was extremely heavy and most thought not appealing. No one was happy which surprised us since we heard good things about the place. Very disappointing and sure NOT TO GO THERE AGAIN!!!!
Beautiful location overlooking the Ohio River. Will definitely go back!
One and done/completely regretting our evening. My husband and I had dinner there on a beautiful, breezy summer night and sat outside yet the atmosphere and location could not make up for the poor quality of food. We ordered Brussels as recommended by the bartender and our waiter. It was terrible, drenched in sauce and under cooked. We were only able to eat a few between the two of us. My husband ordered the mussel app as his entree and he was unable to eat them. They were alarmingly huge and beyond awkward. The sauce was one fine but the bread was stale. I ordered the crab cakes and fried Mac and cheese and that was good, not great. However, I’m not sure how good it truly was or if it was just better than all the other gross food. Go for a drink, enjoy the river and don’t waste your money on food.
Great food; our experienced server was a pill (very negative and not attentive or helpful) but the learning server was very good. Awesome ambiance and overall a good experience.
Wonderful server! The food was good and the view was gorgeous.
It was an enjoyable date night and we would return. This is my second time dining here and I feel like you get great value for the price/portion size. My fiancé and I were able to make two meals out of our dinner.
The food, service, and ambiance was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys seafood.
The air conditioning appeared to not be working. The scallops were served with grits. I would have preferred some vegetables. I would not go back for the food. However, the setting is nice as you can walk around outside and down to the river.
Service seemed inattentive. Might have been understaffed a bit. Lots of running around. Overall it was okay but just lacking a little bit from previous visits.
It was our anniversary and it was a wonderful experience having dinner at The River House. The staff was exceptional and we even got to meet the manager and Chef John. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal. The food was amazing! A little pricey but considering the quality I am okay with the price. If you’re looking for a great place for dinner you should definitely give it a chance! Enjoy
It was are anniversary and table requested was not honored. There wasn’t any air conditioning and we weren’t told. Food was okay foods was not presented as described. Would not go back.
The staff is very nice and helpful. The restaurant is attractive and calming. I also love the food.
Excellent Sunday Brunch. I would attend frequently if I lived closer.
Great food!! Great service!! We were with our family and all 7 members were very pleased with their food!
Waitress was very impersonal. Her attitude was as if we were bothering her every time we needed something. The food was too pricey for what you get. My fries were extremely over cooked.
We have been fans of chef Varanese for years, but had not eaten at River House yet. We loved it. The hostess congratulated us on our anniversary, as did the waiter. I had blackened Hawaiian Ahi Tuna. My wife had seared Sea Scallops. Both were excellent. Service was prompt, professional and friendly.
Chef John Varenese came out to chat and wish us Happy Anniversary. Our wines were lovely as well. We were seated in a more secluded room with a nice view of the Ohio River. On a scale of 10, we have to say 10!
Excellent service and the food was delightful! They knew it was our 40th anniversary also, which was very sweet.
I was somewhat disappointed. We were seated so we could see the river however the temperature of the restaurant was very, very warm. Our server was attentive but was unable to obtain "bread" because it was still in the "oven." We all ordered something different. The fried green tomato salad was exceptional but was disappointed in the Seafood Platter. It was served Tempura style which I dislike. I had hoped for a very slight breading. The fingerling potatoes were hard. My daughter liked her filet migion and after tasting it, I agreed. My husband's pork tenderloin was good but not exceptional. To be honest it was so hot in the restaurant that we all couldn't wait to leave and it spoiled the experience. I would not return.
Great food and nice view of the river.
Always great food, drink and experience. One of the best values in dining anywhere around Louisville.
Will definitely be back!
