What Insiders Are Saying
A special-occasion restaurant on the Brooklyn waterfront.
Great food and great service! Even better view
The place is stunning, the view amazing. We enjoyed the food and wine!
I have dined at the River Cafe several times over the past few years. In fact, it was one of our favorite restaurants. My wife and I have always enjoyed dining there in the past, and usually looked forward to visiting the restaurant whenever we were in town. But on this occasion, it was obvious that things have changed. The service was good but the food was average at best. If I had to make one statement that would encapsulate how I would rate The River Cafe, I would say that it is overrated and very much overpriced. For two, three course dinners that consisted of one chicken entree, one 4oz. lobster entree, two glasses of inexpensive wine and one cup of coffee my bill was over $445.00. Needless to say, I have no plans to return in the future, nor will I be recommending that family or friends who either live in or visit the New York City area in the future, dine there.
Tremendous. Very special place with top tier food and service.
Acceptable food, nice service and ambience, excellent night view of Manhattan and Brooklyn bridge.
Worth to try it once.
The experience was excellent. We went for my wife’s birthday and everything was just perfect. The views are stunning excellent and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this special place to go to for special occasions.
The service and food was outstanding and all of the servers were incredibly attentive without making us feel rushed. I would like to single out Josh Brown maitre d' hotel who seated us right next to the window for an optimal view. A truly memorable experience!
The restaurant requires formal attire, but it didn’t seem to be warranted. The menu was good, but expensive. It’s obvious that the view is the restaurant’s primary draw. Service was good and attentive. The food was good. There is better value in New York if looking for a prefixed menu like this one.
Great as usual. Thanks.
First class service and food. Very expensive but worth it.
As I am Japanese, I did not speak English well. I did not understand well about the tip. But the waiter was very kind. He explained me politely. The food was also worth more than the price. It was raining but the scenery was still great. It was a good memory with my wife.
Beautiful location/view, great ambience and excellent service. Pricey. Had the $175 tasting menu. Fois gras, shrimp, tuna were excellent. Halibut, steak and dessert was so-so. Parking on site. Overall nice experience
Top notch restaurant. Cozy and romantic restaurant. Incredible view of the city. Friendly staff and Excellent food. Great place to celebrate special occasions... Superb!
The food ambiance and service were wonderful -- it is expensive though.
This is a great place to go for a special occasion
Beautifull restaurant, the staff is very kind, mostly the supervisor Camilla, she is very professional and kind. Greatings from Italy.
Loved the views, the food and the excellent service. Recommended!
EXCEPTIONAL! A great experience. We always enjoy our time there.
We had breakfast here and it was one of the highlights of our 5 day stay in NYC. We travelled from Liverpool in England to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary. It is in a fabulous location at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge with jaw dropping views. The breakfasts we had were delicious and the staff were so attentive, welcoming and professional. They went put of their way to make your experience extra special, offering to take photos of diners too. We can't wait to revisit!
A wonderful special occasion dinning experience. Every one was so friendly and helpful. My husband is disabled. All the staff were so attentive to him and his needs. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
Another wonderful time was enjoyed by everyone! I always do special celebrations here! The service, food, views are all the best!!!
My boyfriend and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary and requested a window seat a week prior to the reservation, we were told that they serve seating upon entry. When we got there, multiple window seats were available by the window and when asked to be seated there, the guy showing us to our table told us that only regular customers can sit there which was very disappointing being that it was our first time there and we were celebrating an occasion. Regulars or not, this restaurant should treat everyone the same being that we are all paying the same amount of money. Fair treatment should be given to regulars and customers like me who are coming for my first time ever and would’ve liked a better experience.
A lovely brunch. We enjoyed every aspect of the River Café. The friendly and attentive staff as well as the wonderful food and drinks selection. A very special place!
Great place. A bit expensive. But a great overall experience for fine dining
We were there to share in one of our party of four BIRTHDAY. She was beside herself when we all walked in and were seated. My wife and I had eat at The River Cafe before but they had not.
The atmosphere, the wine , the food and especially the impeccable service were all super fantastic.
We will be back again.
Wonderful! I am so pleased that my request for a view was honored! The food was delicious and great detail in presentation was noted. We had a 3 course fixed price meal and although River Cafe is expensive, I was pleased with the experience and would return again! Service was outstanding!
We have been clients for many years. Everything was good, but not exceptional. The appetizers were much better than the main courses. The service was good. The only special person was the sommelier. The Maitre was not very helpful
Exquisite food, amazing venue and overall Perfect.
Gorgeous view too.
The restaurant serves cafeteria-like food. For example, they serve mock (reconstituted) chicken shaped as a log, and salads are pre-made. Wine list is ok and priced a bit expensive but still reasonable. Service was ok, but nothing great. Not even sure there was a sommelier. View is amazing. Dress code is strict for the men but ladies can wear running shoes, go figure. We ate in a small restaurant in Brooklyn Heights that blew away The River Cafe for quality and originality.
This is an expensive tourist trap or for people that have no clues what good food is. Take a past.
Bit pricey, but well worth it. We had breakfast outside and enjoyed the best service we’ve ever had, great views, and excellent food. A must in NYC, but be prepared for a large bill! But you only live once, right?
The River Cafe is not just fine dining, it’s an experience. I came here for a self date for my birthday. Sat inside on a very chic decorated table enjoying the surrounding views of the NYC skyline. The greeter gave me a warm welcome and made sure I was comfortable. The servers were very attentive, refilling my coffee cup when ever it reached half way. I came for breakfast and had the savory Salmon Eggs Benedict and a side of mixed greens salad, which was surprisingly very filling. For dessert, I enjoyed their Must-Have Brooklyn Bridge cakes paired with Coconut Sorbet. The beauty of this dessert alone is breathtaking, and of course it was delicious. I was able to sit alone, enjoy my coffee, glass of champagne without feeling rushed and enjoying the views. Oh and the garden is beautiful, full of greenery and amazing for pictures. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions, and event private events.
We went to RC for our first anniversary. Long time New Yorkers and since he proposed under the BK bridge it seemed the appropriate and classic choice. Menu was okay - not a lot of vegetable options so the meal felt overly rich. Ravioli was drowning in butter with large sweating strips of parm sticking to each piece. Lobster was covered in a butter chardonnay sauce. The asparagus tarlet was a green mousse block sitting on a cracker. Felt very 2002. Our waiter knew nothing of the wines by the glass and insisted it's a personal preference when I asked for a pairing recommendation. He brought me the same wine to taste twice. They took forever between the 2 courses and even served more bread because we had been waiting so long. Dessert was mediocre at best. I literally don't remember what it was. Now for the kicker. It was chilly and my husband gave me his jacket (like any gentleman would). When he goes to the mens room and he is aggressively pulled aside and reprimanded for not having is jacket on. When he gets back to the table he's a bit shaken and immediately our waiter comes over and tells me I need to give my husband back his jacket and offers me a scarf to wear. Instead of apologizing regarding how they could have approached it better he simple said that's their policy. This is the same waiter we've had all night who saw my husband give me the jacket in the first place. Seriously? They also knew it was our anniversary and I understand they probably get a lot of special occasion diners but perhaps they could have tried a little harder to remedy the situation. Not even a comped drink. Our bill was around $500 for 2. Restaurants of that price range shouldn't be able to get away with sub par service. We will not be going back to RiverCafe. The bartenders however were doing a great job - lively and knowledgable. Perhaps the rest of the staff could take a few pointers.
It was perfect. We will have a reservation within a few days. We look forward to having a great experience again.
Always one of the finest dining experiences in New York.
Beautiful location, wonderful ambiance, fabulous food
We had a marvelous dining experience in a beautiful setting. We have been there before and will go again.
Everything was wonderful, the service, the food and ambiance. Really lovely place.
Great food, great service, great ambiance. Was an outstanding experience for our group as most had not been to New York before nor been to a Michelin Star restaurant before. The view overlooking the city skyline is tough to beat - food matched the impressiveness too.
we experienced a wonderful time at the River Café. Staff was simply perfect and made an excellent experience even better. Thanks a lot!
It’s Amazing expérience.
the view is sumptuous. The setting is beautiful. Friendly staff. To recommend.
The food is very very good.
We had an incredible dinner at River Cafe!
