River Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. The service was fantastic. The ambiance was great as well except the table full of 6-8 men that was in the center. They were the loudest group on our side of the room laughing and conversing loudly. Almost like they were the only ones in the room. Would’ve been better if the reastaurant had separated the dining room by couples and groups. Not sure if that’s possible though. Other than that we had a fantastic time w the food and service.
Delicious food in a beautiful setting. Eat here several times per year. Last time we were unhappy with the food and service but this time. the restaurant and staff redeemed themselves. The meal was flawless - both the quality of the food and the service. Had been feeling like the menu was getting boring and the restaurant old, but they have upped their game and changed items on the menu, as well as, it seemed, some fresh new and energetic staff. Totally pleasant experience.
The place is wonderful! Helena received my wife in a kind and always helpful manner! The food is delicious and presentation always beautiful! Finally, the enchanting place, with Manhattan in the background, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge framing the spectacle to the eyes!
The River Cafe is outstanding we visited on our last evening in New York before returning to England. What a superbly special evening, we had heard good things, but experiencing it first hand was truly amazing. We would like to say a very big thank you to all the wonderful staff, who all made the evening even more special. Love the River Cafe and we’ll be back as soon as we come back to NYC!!
Immer ein „Must“ für uns in New York!
River Cafe is the best meal and best dining experience we've ever had. I booked the table on New Years Day with the intention of proposing to my girlfriend, and I mentioned this when I emailed the restaurant to confirm the booking. On arrival, it was immediately clear that this restaurant is something special. The decoration, floral displays, welcoming staff taking our coats and guiding us through to the restaurant was all just perfect. The soft sounds of a pianist drifted through the restaurant, but never so loud that is was anything other than lovely background. The staff were amazingly attentive at every stage, but never so much that we felt that we weren't able to mind our own business and enjoy the experience and our meal.
When my girlfriend visited the restroom, our main server approached me, with a knowing smile, and had evidently been made aware of my intentions, and offered to take the engagement ring away and bring it out with desert, or anything else I wanted. I think she could tell that I was very nervous, and that helping me in this way would make me relax a lot more... it certainly did and my girlfriend and I proceeded to have an absolutely delicious 3 course meal. It is fine dining, but suffers from none of the pretentiousness that I've seen elsewhere... all three courses were absolutely delicious, and we were both certainly full by the end - the portion sizes are just right in my opinion. If you're ravenously hungry or have a very big appetite perhaps not, but then this is a dining experience, not a diner.
When our desert was ready, the server and her waiting staff all seemed aware of my plan, and caught my eye to make me aware when they were coming out... and it all went perfectly (and successfully!), at which point they all offered their congratulations and brought us complimentary pink champagne.
This place is perfect - pricey but absolutely worth it for a special occasion (for fixed menu & 1 bottle of wine I spent $400 for 2 of us).
I live in NYC and wanted to take my out-of-town parents here for their 50th wedding anniversary. I made the reservation about 3 months in advance and requested a table by the window, letting them know way ahead of time that it was for a 50th (I called and spoke to someone who said it shouldn't be a problem and I also left a note on the OpenTable reservation itself). When we got there, they seated us elsewhere even though we ate very early and there was a window table open throughout our entire meal. When I quietly went to ask the maître d about it, I was taken aback by how much of a jerk he was, telling me that they “needed to keep window tables open for regulars” and that we would have to “enjoy our meal wherever they put us.” The immediate sharp attitude was a shocking bummer. The food was average for how super expensive it is — average and uninspired — silly prices for average (over 700 for 4 people and w a wine pairing this would have been doubled) — a glass of just-okay wine was $22, dumb. There was a greasy, sad piece of pork belly that one of us had as an appetizer and two of us had the lobster which was rubbery and mediocre, the duck was a C at best — not one thing stood out as very good. One of the desserts was made up to look like the Brooklyn Bridge with waxy-tasting pieces of chocolate and random smears of sauce -- it was like food from a bad wedding caterer in 1988 -- embarrassing.
I chose this restaurant to celebrate a milestone for our family and sadly had much higher expectations than I should have. The view is nice (a view we ended up having to strain all of our necks to see), but in a city filled with incredible service and food, it’s very hard to understand how this place is even remotely worth it. My heartfelt advice to anyone facing the same situation -- walk along the promenade for the view and then go to a place (that actually cares) to have your supper.
We had a lovey time here on Boxing Day, food was great and the staff were very attentive. The only thing we were disappointed with was the fact we mentioned we would like a window seat if upon arriving, it was free, however from the 2 hours we were there, the very right hand table in the window of the restaurant was empty. We were just confused as to why it would be left empty that entire time, when it could of been enjoyed by someone else. We celebrated our engagement here, and although we didn't get the window, the staff brought out our dessert with a candle on each and a chocolate sign saying 'congratulations '. This was a nice gesture and we also have a memory to remember.
This didn't ruin our experience at all, but it would of been spectacular otherwise.
We missed the dinner reservation and made a reservation at 11 AM instead. Actually we thought it was lunch reservation, but it was different and they had only breakfast menu. It was not bad, however lower than we expected as we experienced a great dinner here last time.
Also, a staff rushed us to order even though there were some parties which came in after us, and it made us more disappointed. The atmosphere was not bad, but it’s different room from the dinner room, which is much greater. So, this time was not special and we should have been there for dinner if we want the special experience as well as last time.
Nel complesso esperienza sicuramente ottima , assolutamente da rifare!!
Cibo ottimo e personale estremamente cordiale e a disposizione!
