This is a special occasion restaurant and it fully leaves up to that billing. First the setting is gorgeous - from the gardens outside to the East River views directly beyond the dining room. The service is impeccable... really good. The food outstanding. I really don't have a criticism of the place. More expensive then I would like - $337 for 2 without alcohol or wine, but to be expected. A special place
Usually a great experience. However, the fixed priced menu at $155 per person made the dinner overpriced. Service and atmosphere was wonderful.
This place exceeded my expectations. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff was phenomenal. The place is gorgeous and I felt like I was in a movie.
Food was amazing, as was the service. We plan on making this our special occasion restaurant for everything.
Ambiance is A1
Request outdoor if possible. Indoors there is live piano music. The prefixe menu is expensive but the experience and quality of the meal makes everything worth it.
The dining experience at The River Cafe was nothing short of exceptional. You understand by their customer service and delicious food why they earned their Michelin star.
5:30 reservation, third party seated and received a table with a view of the bartender vigorously shaking martinis. Zero view of the River at the River Cafe. Requested another table with a view was told my table did have a view. Huh?
We ending up on a broken down pier with a view of the banquet room and tourist helicopters passing overhead every 30 seconds. Food was average, but we came for the view and the chance to celebrate our son’s 18th birthday. The staff even managed to bring the dessert and candle while one of our party was away from the table. I addressed the lack of hospitality in an email to management but never received a reply. Sadly this ship has sailed.
Unpleasant snob waiters who made us feel UNCOMFORTABLE and unwanted and unwelcome! Staff was unhelpful ignorant. Bad quality price ratio, I won’t come back and don’t recommend to friends. Food was average although cheese platter was remarkable!
My husband and I had a lovely dinner celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary at the River Cafe. Everything we ate was cooked to perfection, full of flavor and beautifully presented. The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful and the views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn bridge were breathtaking.
Due to covid we were given a time frame of an hour and 45 minutes to complete our meal which made the experience feel a bit rushed, given the price tag. My only other gripe was the noise level of the restaurant, which was quite loud. Given the intimate size of space, I guess it should be expected.
Overall we had a great experience and look forward to coming back in the near future.
It’s been a while since our last visit. This last visit was our favorite. The food was perfect, the service was so attentive that when a table by the windows (direct east river view) was available, the staff offered us to relocate to it. Can’t wait to revisit again. Perfect on every level.
So glad that River Cafe is back in business. Things were bustling on the night we dined there. We had to wait about 5 minutes at the hostess podium while she ran around, which felt a bit long. Once we were seated, it was another 5-8 minutes before we got menus or water. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, as they just reopened StPatricks Day. I hope that the service will tighten up, since $155 per person implies a luxe experience from food, ambiance to attentive hosts, waiters, etc.
Good food & service, but a pro tip...don’t shift your reservation by 15 minutes or they will give you the table with no view. We spent the meal staring at a crane, when the view is one of the big draws of the restaurant. We still had a nice evening out, but it had little to do with the ambiance, and more from each other’s company.
The food was out of this world. And the little details such as a stool to put your mask and phone on was appreciated as well.
Only two critiques: no hand wipes provided at the table; you had to get up and walk all the way back to the entrance for hand sanitizer. Secondly, it was a bit noisier than even some cheaper restaurants. I wasn’t expecting that.
Other than that, it was a perfect experience. It’s worth coming back just to taste how amazing the food was.
Remarkable! I loved it! I can’t stress it enough!
We went to celebrate our anniversary and the hostess refused to let us sit by the window because we aren’t “regular customers”. As someone who has dined all over the world at places better than this, all I can say is that kind of message will never get you more regulars. Also, our waiter came by just twice the entire evening—to take our order and then give us the check (not even to pick it up—and forget about refilling our sparkling water or asking if our food was ok). Thankfully the other staff running around to bus tables were really caring polite and all-around amazing and wore many hats. I’d still go elsewhere if you care about your special occasion.
Good date night spot!
Amazing experience. Food and drinks were delicious. Ambiance was great.
Food was outstanding as always glad to be back after such a long time due to pandemic. Romantic as always and great service and food
Absolutely perfect evening. We were treated with respect and care. Beautiful views and food was incredible.
The river cafe is a fantastic restaurant. Great appetizer and main course. The dessert was less special by comparison. Overall the price point seemed high for the quality. However it is a beautiful restaurant and perfect for a special occasion.
Such an incredible experience! The food, staff, and atmosphere were all exceptional!
Stunning. As always.
Beautiful views, ambience, service with creative and excellent food to match. The oysters in hollandaise sauce with sautéed shallots bacon and caviar were truly amazing.
Service and ambiance outstanding. Was expecting a higher quality of food.
Recent dining experience for a friend's birthday was underwhelming. Our reservation was for 8:30 and we were seated at our table at 9:10. No apologies, no offer to drink/water. I perfectly understand the new capacity regulations but while waiting at the terrace with other 15 or so guests for more than 30 minutes would be nice to be offered some wine/cocktail or at least a glass of water. I do not have to ask for this at Michelin star restaurant.
To be honest, we didn’t love it. My husband and I celebrated my birthday at the restaurant, it came highly recommended, but after the experience my husband felt completely ripped off and for me the experience fell kind of flat. The food was good, but for the price we felt like it was nothing special and we definitely overpaid. They’re strict about and have very specific rules that marred the experience a bit for us or didn’t let us enjoy it as much as we would’ve liked. For example my husband had to wear a suit jacket during the entire dinner (he was uncomfortable eating with it on but was not permitted to take it off). Portions were a bit on the small side, although I will say all the waiters were extremely nice and quick to resolve anything we asked for or even didn’t ask for; great service. The view of the city is truly spectacular, but for the price we paid for dinner and what we got in return we wouldn’t go back. The cost of dinner itself was not the issue, for us we could’ve eaten better food for that price at literally any restaurant we wanted, paid less, and then gone to the Brooklyn Bridge to view the city from the docks. So to sum up we wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, other people seemed to be enjoying it, I guess in the end it wasn’t really our style.
Food was very very delicious. Scenery out of this world. We were extremely fortunate to get a table right next to the window on the river.
Service very attentive - maybe just too attentive. There wasn't much room to breath there were so many people tending to our table.
The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that the desserts were awful. My strawberry soufflé was raw in the middle and tasted like eggs, and the peppercorn ice cream was a no. I don’t want to bite into a peppercorn flavored crumble. Also the chocolate cake had way too strong of a chocolate flavor and brought nothing special. With that said, my octopus was one of the best I’ve ever had and the rest of the meal was outstanding. Too bad the dessert was last.
The service was superb. Our waiters looked out for all our needs and made sure we were comfortable.
The ambiance is perfect. We had a good view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline.
Food is as expected with Michelin star stamped .
Will look forward coming back again to celebrate more occasions.
An enchanting experience! The quality and creativity of food, thoughtfulness and attentiveness of service, and beautiful views and ambiance made it a night to remember
We’ve always wanted to try The River Cafe for fine dining. We finally went for our 28th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. River Cafe is fine dining at its best! Everything from the service, to the food, to the ambiance and views was exquisite! We loved it!!
The grounds were so beautiful. Something you would not expect in the city. Amazing view. Great steak tartare. Sea bass - fantastic. Overall great experience!
I love this place! Been a frequent patron since 2006. Excellent fresh caviar and amazing dishes overall.
I’m very happy to support this establishment.
Great restaurant. A bit on the pricey side but great experience.
As usual, it was raining, but as usual, an outstanding experience, as it has been over the past 40 years. I was delighted to enjoy dinner with a friend, both of us venturing out after vaccinations. We both marveled, as an immigrant, and an innocent girl from Seattle, at our good fortune to be able to sit in such a lovely atmosphere to enjoy the views of lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty. The food and service never fail, and the presentations always make me smile. Special.
Went with my husband for our second wedding anniversary and everything was beautiful, the attentions were perfect, food was amazing too and the view the Best!
I went there to celebrate my 24 year anniversary. The ambiance was romantic. I am gluten free and they made great accommodations to provide me options. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Second time being here and was not disappointed l. Food and service is always great.
Simply AMAZING!!! Gorgeous garden breathtaking views and outstanding food and service
Very beautiful restaurant no doubt about it the view is amazing only downside but not a big deal it the set price to dine $150 per person which they will be more flex I guess you pay for the view and 5 ⭐ service. Food was amazing also no doubt about it. Really had a good time with my wife.
