My wife and I have dined in many fine restaurants in New York City. We decided to go back and visit her home in Brooklyn for our 36th anniversary. We had dinner at the river café. From the moment we arrived until we left it was a very special place with special people a special view and an outstanding menu. The River Café certainly deserves it’s star.
Birthday dinner for our son was unforgettable!
Absolutely the crown jewel of any trip to NYC! The food and service is absolutely unsurpassed.
Absolutely incredible. Of course, it is very pricy, but definitely worth it for the high quality food, service and ambience. Highly recommend, especially if you are going for a special occassion.
This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. It was the last day me and my girlfriend had before a long trip she is taking and it could not have been more perfect. I worked in the industry and I can say that what this place is doing is incredible. The service was (literally) world class- incredibly attentive without being intrusive. We never had to wait for a repour, the food came at a perfect rhythm, we received thoughtful suggestions, our plates were cleared promptly and more. It allowed us to have a truly incredible experience- conversation between me and my girlfriend flowed perfectly because we didn’t have to give any thought to the service. Everything was just perfect.
The quality of the food was amazing. Every bite was amazing and the presentation immaculate. You could tell the amount of thought that was put into every dish. My girlfriend and I were even joking that we were getting exhausted just by how good the food tasted.
The ambience is just incredible. The view of Manhattan light up at night over the east river is just stunning. The place is perfectly lit- not too bright, not too dark- the live music setting an awesome, sultry tone.
This is a place that you’ll remember- it’s by no means cheap but you are getting EXACTLY what you paid for. This is our new special place.
The iconic River Cafe in Brooklyn has been on my radar/list for decades, so my expectations were set quite high, yet somehow the staff managed to exceed them.
First, the atmosphere of the courtyard really sets the tone. It’s quaint and breathtaking at the same time. Then you enter into a nautical oasis where you’re Greater’s by friendly hosts that (unlike others) politely and respectfully ask for proof of vaccination. Then upon being seated, they warm and friendly staff attend to your every need.
The food, well it’s exceptional as one would expect. The portions are also generous, which one might not expect. My wife had the lamb, while I had the steak. Both of us enjoyed our meals and left very satisfied.
Having dined at nearly all the iconic restaurants in NYC, several of which share Michelin stars, I would put The River Cafe near the top. Why? First, atmosphere which is #1. Second, the warmth and friendliness of the staff, also #1. Finally the dishes are equally as impressive as others that change more, with larger portions.
Definitely recommend and will definitely return again!
The service was excellent, food delicious and ambiance. The restaurant with lovely decoration and the view awesome. Expensive but worth it’s value.
Wonderful experience, from start to finish
We had a wonderful evening at the River Cafe. Parking is hugely helpful, and as we told them we had an anniversary, they gave us a window table. The service was very nice and attentive, but not stuffy and everyone congratulated us on our anniversary. The food was excellent overall, but the foie gras was just out of this world. I will not forget this appetizer for years to come! It is clearly a special occasion or business account place, but as such a great place, even after all those years.
Hugely Overpriced for the quality of food. Location was awesome. Food was average.
We loved everything over there .. thanks to all staff
It was our 5th anniversary and The River Cafe made our experience exquisite. We loved the food, the service, and the ambience! Even when it was raining heavily, we could still enjoy the view as one whole side of the restaurant was made up of windows. When the rain cleared up though, that's when the famous view of The River Cafe could be enjoyed. The food was also amazing--even the complimentary butter was aromatic. As for the appetizers, we had the scallop ceviche and the wagyu tartare; for the main course, we had steak and lobster. The scallop ceviche was so fresh and flavorful as was the lobster! Wagyu tartare and steak were rich with umami. We couldn't choose a favorite of the evening because they were all perfect. We can't wait to go back!!!
We celebrated my parents' 35th anniversary at the River Cafe and had a wonderful time! I told the staff in advance that it was a special occasion and we were given an amazing window table with the most incredible view. The food was delicious, the staff was very helpful and the dessert even had a little Happy Anniversary message. My parents were so appreciative and remarked that they would never forget this meal.
We rely on the River Café to deliver a superb combination of ambiance, service, cuisine, and delightful memories. We hope to return again soon.
Went here for our anniversary and I could not have picked a better spot to celebrate. The staff was great, food amazing and well worth every dollar!
If you are looking for a spot that has excellent service and DELICIOUS food then look no further. You will not be disappointed.
We’ve always enjoy the River Cafe when we go. The atmosphere, ambiance, the lighting, the professional staff you can’t put a price tag on. The food is amazing, from your appetizer, to your main course if you haven’t experienced it yet, treat yourself. You won’t regret it!!
The experience was spectacular! The view of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge, the food, the service and the atmosphere were all incredible. It was also a bonus that we were asked to provide vaccination proof. It gave an additional sense of relief so that we could enjoy the tasty food that was presented in such a creative and lovely manner. The staff were prompt and helpful without being overbearing. It was truly an exceptional experience in every aspect. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable evening!
outstanding service, food and ambience!
Everything was perfect! Every table has a beautiful view. The staff is outstanding and truly makes every guest feel special. The food choices are plentiful and creative and delicious. A NYC gem.
River Cafe located at the base of Brooklyn Bridge, offers excellent food and wine selection with a superb ambience. A truly great place for celebratory dinners.
An incredible experience with an unforgettable view and menu. I took my parents there for their birthdays and they were blown away. The service is also impeccable. Definitely a great choice for a special occasion and / or with out of town guests.
Great experience. Waiters were very attentive throughout the evening.
The service, atmosphere, and food was a 10/10. We ate tortellini, lobster, beef, and had an amazing bottle of red. It is pricey but definitely worth every penny!
wonderfull place and diner perfect to celebraremos our 20 anniversary of marciales. highly recommended
The food's visual presentation was fine, but the savory delitcatness did not rise to the level of price value. This was our third visit and the least in quality.
this is a wonderful restaurant on all levels except the cost - once in a decade for most of us
We had such a lovely dinner at The River Cafe. The food is incredible. The people who work there are lovely, and the cocktails were fantastic. I will say, I wish there was an option to add another course, as the three courses weren't enough deliciousness for us!
One of the most special places I've eaten in NYC. The view of lower Manhattan, being on the water with the ferries running in and out, and the overall decor/ambiance were so special. It's quite expensive, and when we ate there, there was only a pre-fixe option so you're locked in on price. So worth it, though! Would definitely recommend.
Over the top ambience. Fresh large bouquets on tables
Marvelous personal staff.
You are floating on the East River!!
We will enjoy coming back
Went here for a date. The valet outside were ready to receive us with umbrellas & walked us to the front. Everyone was incredibly nice & there was no wait to sit. One of the diners has a food allergy, this was confirmed several times prior to coming (making & confirming reservation) however when we sat, no one had any idea about the food allergies that was confirmed upon entry. I had asked for gluten free options to be made available however I had to ask for gluten free bread to be brought out prior to service, the wait was VERY long along with the wait to place our food order. We eventually had to call the wait staff over to order our meals. The food was great. Dessert took a while to come. Other than the long waits for service & having to repeatedly ask for food accommodations, it was nice
We came to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary and it was such a lovely experience!!! Service was excellent. Everyone was so attentive. Food was delicious!! The sommelier assisted with excellent wine choices for each course. And the view of the Brooklyn bridge….stunning! Would definitely come back again and again!!
Perfect; pricey and exactly what a NY special occasion fantasy night out should be
The food was exquisite as was the service. The view is everything people say it is. I only have good things to say about what’s in control of the restaurant.
The food was amazing However we felt very rushed. We were served our main course within about 30 mins of sitting down and done with meal in about an hour. Also dessert came out about 2 mins after our main course. Not offered (not sure if they even have) coffee or an after dinner drink. That all being said the food was Perry incredible.
Truly fabulous. Food! Service! Ambiance! Love to dine here on my birthday !!!
An amazing dining experience all around!! Fabulous food, views, service and ambience. Restaurant staff are all A+ and make you feel welcome and pampered. Every course of the meal was spectacular with food prepared perfectly. The scallops are the best we've ever had. Leaving the restaurant at night with the garden all lit up is an amazing way to end the evening. If you are going to splurge on a NYC restaurant experience, The River Cafe is the way to go. Only drawback is the local traffic to get there.
Classic place for a special occasion!
The food was amazing! Our wait staff was incredible, the woman in charge of bread should be given a raise, the live piano player was a great addition, just the perfect amount of background noise. When we arrived there were about seven empty tables and they sat us next to the hostess stand. I should've asked to be moved immediately but didn't. I have incredible hearing, the amount of "gossip" that the three hostesses and a waiter, not ours, spoke of was just rude. I believe an "owner" or someone who frequents the restaurant sat behind us, when he left rude comments were made by a host. There would be no way for them to know I have incredible hearing, but when there are many empty tables, don't sit people next to the hostess stand.
