Rivalhouse Ratings and Reviews
Didn’t even care that we had a reservation. So when I tried to tell them they acted like they could give a s%#$, So the special requests that I had made with my reservation went unnoticed or cared about!! Food was ok for the specialty’s they advertised I’ve had a better Artisen style frozen pizza. It was so loud I couldn’t even have a conversation or anything with my wife. Plus it took 35 min in between cocktails to a server.. I was not impressed, I’ll probably never go back..
We had a reservation for a party of 10 on a Sat night, celebrating my husband's birthday. The restaurant was not full, many open tables and yet they were not ready for us. We had to wait for a hostess and then they were scrambling to put our table together. Our server was a bit strange and although she tried to hustle, she seemed overwhelmed that evening. She kept making excuses for everything which is very unprofessional. Our salads sat in the window for 15 minutes until I asked her to bring them- and then another staff helped her out. I had dined here one other time and thought the food was great and wanted to bring our friends here. For the most part we enjoyed the food but our server was a bit of a disaster. I was embarrassed and disappointed.
This restaurant was awful!! It took 15 minutes before the waitress came to greet us and take our drink order. It was another 15 minutes before our drinks arrived. The restaurant was only 1/3 full.
Half our party either did not receive the food that they ordered, or what did come had to be returned because it was so badly burned. They should have been embarrassed to but it down on the table. A rating on this place was a 3.7...no way! We will never go back again. If you want to enjoy your evening, choose someplace else.
You can catch the free shuttle to the X and park right there. Prompt service. Solid beer options. Tasty pizza and upper end bar food. Looks like a great place for parties and celebrations, but the night we were there it was mostly concert people. Affordable and a nice vibe for the area.
We booked this venue looking for some interactive activity for a work group that does not meet much in person. We were sorely disappointed that the ping pong table was not up, apparently there was a private party in that special room. Otherwise there were board games
This is a good sports bar in downtown in a hotel (forgot the name) I like their menu and has some very interesting items including pizza and burgers. The pizzas are wood-fired. Their happy hour is every day and a good deal. They have lots of games too! My one complaint is that the tv's are too small and in weird places. They have one ultra-large screen but it is not in good viewing angles to the seating. The service is good, staff & bartenders are great.
The staff was great! The drinks were poured properly (ie: strong). The cheese curds were delish. The main course took a long time and it wasn't busy so that was confusing. Both dishes ordered had pork components - a bit fatty for our taste. However, I will go back to try more items to give it another fair shot. Cool vibe inside.
The description neglected to mention it is in a hotel. It was cold inside and the server didn't bother to see if they could turn up the heat. Food was okay, but not great. Ambiance could have been cool, but it was a bit slow, so it didn't have much of a vibe. They have several games that are fun (skee ball, puck shuffleboard, ping pong, etc.), but some are coin-operated and they don't have a change machine....the bar didn't have many quarters...odd.
The restaurant was so noisy that my 2 friends and I sitting in a booth couldn't hear each other sometimes. We had to practically yell to be heard. We had difficulty hearing the server also. So I could not recommend Rivalhouse as a restaurant because of the noise level,
Great looking restaurant and I wanted to like it, but based on the poor service and bland food, I just cannot say that I will ever be back to Rival House. I can't tell you how many guests entered the establishment without being greeted or shown where to sit. The management spent more time talking to the check-in staff at the neighboring hotel than inside her restaurant. The place was pretty dead, but wait staff was still very slow.
We waited for 30 minutes to get drinks. They never brought us water.
There was an apparent disagreement about who was causing the delay (bartender or waiter) -- as customers I don't care just fix it, but the manager came over and explained the disagreement to us.
I don't usually find hotel restaurants to be noteworthy, but Rivalhouse was really good. Great food, great service, good beer collection, and the pizza was fantastic. We had a part of seven and tried four or five different kinds of pizza. All were very good. I'd definitely go back and go out of my way for it.
We were looking for a kid-friendly spot before a concert at the Xcel and wanted to be slightly away from the crowd but close enough to walk to the venue. Rival House was perfect. Our food was good, service excellent, the beer list well-curated, and the games fun for both kids and adults. We will bring our family here again and are glad to have found this place.
It was pretty terrible. Service was awful, our server was more concerned with taking cigarette breaks than serving the table. The food that did arrive (ordered appetizers were not delivered) was abysmal (Mac & Cheese and a cheeseburger). We were all thirsty most of the night. Overall this is easily the worst place I've been in a long time... And I was at McDonald's last week
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but the service was incredibly slow. We didn't get seated for over a half hour after our reservation and once we were seated the server was slow and forgetful. Overall, the customer service was poor at the hostess stand, the bar and the table. I would recommend Rival House if you can take your time and only want one or two drinks. It's a cool place to change it up, especially for St. Paul. I really wish the service was better. Been there three times and had the same experience each time.
I didn't know what to expect, but my wife and I went out on an impromptu date night and we wanted something not of the norm. We both like games so this place seems like a good fit and it was. We both ordered pizza, one G/F cheese and one Pesto Chicken. The G/F crust was ok but the rest of the flavors were good and my Pesto Chicken pizza was really good. It is no Lola or pig at my pizza, but it was still really good. I would say top 5 for wood stove pizza.
Just because its next to a hotel doesn't make Rivalhouse a hotel restaurant. This place rocks with great food, ice cold beer (great selection) and wonderful service.
Its a lively atmosphere, making it fun to bring friends or even family for good food and a great time. Conversation is a bit difficult as the noise level is up there, but no unpleasantly so.
I had a Cuban Reuban and a local Summit brew, which were exactly what I needed after my race earlier in the day. The flavor, temp and freshness of the sandwich was perfect and the house made chips were pretty good--not fat soaked or over salted like many places that make their own.
The waitress originally brought fries with my order but I had requested chips--she cant be faulted because I think it is hard for the staff to hear at times. She brought the chips as requested, but I didnt eat any fries (dont care much for them, hence the chips).
Manager checked in a few times to make sure all was perfect with my meal. Attention to detail was obvious as he checked outgoing plates and checking with all the diners. Good to see proactive management to ensure guests are properly cared for.
I would go again, without a doubt, if/when I return to St Paul.
What a fun place. This is NOT your typical hotel eating/drinking establishment. It's a mixture of local people and traveling people. The mangagement and staff do their best to incorporate interactions amongst their patrons by having board games, karaoke and jenga.
The staff is very friendly, welcoming and make sure they know your name.
Kudos to the Rivalhouse for being welcoming!
My boyfriend, sister and myself took my mom there for Mother's Day brunch. The food was very good, especially the pizza! It was a little cold, but I've come to expect that at a brunch. They had the perfect amount of food so you can try everything without being completely stuffed. A man came up to us right away, the owner I'm assuming, and wished everyone a happy Mother's Day. He was very attentive and nice throughout the whole visit. Service was also very quick, my water cup was refilled four times I think and I never had to wait more than a minute from when it emptied. There are also SO many different games to play! They have old fashioned board games, a ping pong table and so many arcade games. It was a very cool place, I would definitely go there again with my friends.
We celebrated Mother's Day by having brunch at Rival House. There are a couple of food items in the buffet that were delicious unfortunately most of the food was cold and old. The server never gave us any refills. The $30 cost per person is simply not worth the hassle.
