The atmosphere was fun with arcade games. Food was great - especially the butternut squash pizza. Thank goodness we had a reservation. It was so busy after the St. Patrick's Day parade.
I have no idea how the food was, there was a major issue with the open table app saying that they had room for my reservation however when I arrived, the restaurant was unable to provide my table at the reserved time. Upon getting a table we were seated and forgotten, partly due to being slammed because it was a block away from a St Patty day parade. We waited what seemed like 10 minutes, no one approached us to even get drink orders, so we left. I had really wanted to try the food, I hope to get another chance and have better luck.
The tap takeover beer list on St Patty’s Day was excellent and the pizza, while greasy, tasted good. However, our group was disappointed in the service and the fact Rival House did not honor their KFAN initials game promotion which had been advertised on the radio the day before. Our server told us they “weren’t doing that for St Patty’s,” yet later in the day another customer tweeted that they received the deal. So, either something changed during the day or our server didn’t bother to ask the manager about it (like she said she would). Either way, it was disappointing. Add to it that our server rarely returned to check on our table and that we had to go to the bar to refill our drinks, and it made for a poor service experience. I’d still go back again for the beer and pizza, but hopefully the poor service was the exception and not the rule.
Excellent first experience. Friendly host. Tasty food. Good service.
Would not go back here. Was seated for at least 10 minutes before I waved someone over to order a couple drinks. Never gave us waters. Took 10+ minutes to get drinks (was just ordering beers, no complex cocktails or anything). Server forgot to enter one beer so it was another 10 minutes for my husband to get his beer, and it wasn’t busy at all! Not sure what was going on. I was really looking forward to the food bc I had read some good reviews- lackluster. My husband got extra of what he asked to have omitted from his pizza, my margarita pizza had ONE splotch of mozzarella on it. I cut it up into tiny pieces and tried to spread it out but I was just over it.
This was my 2nd time at this place, but my first for dinner and food. I selected it mainly because of the location, as my group was seeing a show near by. I made reservations well in advance on Opentable. I arrived 30 minutes before my reservation, and told the host I was there, but the rest of my party was not, and I had no expectation of being seated until my reservation time. I was told that an occupied table was reserved for my group, but that it would be ready soon.... When it was the time I made reservations for they had just cleaned off the table. I made reservations for 8 and the table only seated 6. At this time my whole party was there. A few ppl had to stand around until they moved us to a banquet room. At this time an alarm went off repeatedly over the loud speakers. The host that sat us said she would figure out what was going on and never returned. This went on for several minutes before it stopped. Our server did ok, but frequently forgot to bring drinks when we asked (she would return with 2 ppls beers but not everyone that wanted one). Over all the food was good and portion sizes were ok. THe place was really busy and they got in over their heads I think. Honestly the level of disorganization was not worth a return.
They were out of pizza ingredients but didn't let us know until our food was served. If you like bahn mi, do NOT order the bahn mi sandwich; it was just chicken with sweet thai chili sauce. The manger did comp our pizzas and the sandwich which was greatly appreciated, but the time between ordering, asking about the incorrect food items, speaking with the manger and finally getting our check was about 3x longer than it should've been. We will not be going back.
We had a reservation & arrived early but were told they didn’t have a table to seat us at for an hour! They did offer us s spot at the bar which we took then saw at least 3 other tables open within 15 mins! The bar staff was mediocre. The saving grace was that the food was good!
We loved the atmosphere and the food! Staff was friendly too.
Located in the Double tree hotel, Rival House surprised me as not being a typical hotel bar. Great happy hour and straight forward menu. Nice staff and healthy amount of people in the place. They have board games and a bar that overlooks the street. Good drink list. Food came quick, was flavorful, simple pub style eats, and price was fair. I live a few blocks away and will add this to our usual repeat spots to hit.
Didn’t even care that we had a reservation. So when I tried to tell them they acted like they could give a s%#$, So the special requests that I had made with my reservation went unnoticed or cared about!! Food was ok for the specialty’s they advertised I’ve had a better Artisen style frozen pizza. It was so loud I couldn’t even have a conversation or anything with my wife. Plus it took 35 min in between cocktails to a server.. I was not impressed, I’ll probably never go back..
Cozy spot for groups with a wide selection of food items. They also have activities and games to play while you wait for your food.
Great service and amazing food and love the beer ball
It was really really cold inside the restaurant - except for in the restrooms. We ate with our coats on. I know it was cold outside, but that temperature was unacceptable.
We had a reservation for a party of 10 on a Sat night, celebrating my husband's birthday. The restaurant was not full, many open tables and yet they were not ready for us. We had to wait for a hostess and then they were scrambling to put our table together. Our server was a bit strange and although she tried to hustle, she seemed overwhelmed that evening. She kept making excuses for everything which is very unprofessional. Our salads sat in the window for 15 minutes until I asked her to bring them- and then another staff helped her out. I had dined here one other time and thought the food was great and wanted to bring our friends here. For the most part we enjoyed the food but our server was a bit of a disaster. I was embarrassed and disappointed.
This restaurant was awful!! It took 15 minutes before the waitress came to greet us and take our drink order. It was another 15 minutes before our drinks arrived. The restaurant was only 1/3 full.
Half our party either did not receive the food that they ordered, or what did come had to be returned because it was so badly burned. They should have been embarrassed to but it down on the table. A rating on this place was a 3.7...no way! We will never go back again. If you want to enjoy your evening, choose someplace else.
Staff went above and beyond to make our adoption finalization day special for our family of 6! Balloons, special cookie dessert, friendly and accommodating. They even found a phone charger for us to use. Our 4 kids have already asked when we can go back!
Service was very slow and disorganized. Food was pretty good.
The pizzas are creative and delicious!
Overall it was an OK restaurant, I liked the food, service was not great though
I have been there before and both times the service was slower than average. The food was good (nothing special). It's unique because it has the games and has a diverse group being attached to the Doubletree Hotel
You can catch the free shuttle to the X and park right there. Prompt service. Solid beer options. Tasty pizza and upper end bar food. Looks like a great place for parties and celebrations, but the night we were there it was mostly concert people. Affordable and a nice vibe for the area.
Scott our server was exceptional!! He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant!
We booked this venue looking for some interactive activity for a work group that does not meet much in person. We were sorely disappointed that the ping pong table was not up, apparently there was a private party in that special room. Otherwise there were board games
This is a good sports bar in downtown in a hotel (forgot the name) I like their menu and has some very interesting items including pizza and burgers. The pizzas are wood-fired. Their happy hour is every day and a good deal. They have lots of games too! My one complaint is that the tv's are too small and in weird places. They have one ultra-large screen but it is not in good viewing angles to the seating. The service is good, staff & bartenders are great.
The staff was great! The drinks were poured properly (ie: strong). The cheese curds were delish. The main course took a long time and it wasn't busy so that was confusing. Both dishes ordered had pork components - a bit fatty for our taste. However, I will go back to try more items to give it another fair shot. Cool vibe inside.
The description neglected to mention it is in a hotel. It was cold inside and the server didn't bother to see if they could turn up the heat. Food was okay, but not great. Ambiance could have been cool, but it was a bit slow, so it didn't have much of a vibe. They have several games that are fun (skee ball, puck shuffleboard, ping pong, etc.), but some are coin-operated and they don't have a change machine....the bar didn't have many quarters...odd.
Fun activities to play, things like Skeeball and a ping pong table and shuffleboard, a basketball shooter game. There was also Battleship and Jenga and darts. It was a good time.
Went with coworkers and it was hard to hear everyone. Also it was cold near the windows.
Went here for a birthday dinner with friends and ended up staying awhile playing games. Our waiter kept our bar tab all night and was very attentive! I would go back!
The restaurant was so noisy that my 2 friends and I sitting in a booth couldn't hear each other sometimes. We had to practically yell to be heard. We had difficulty hearing the server also. So I could not recommend Rivalhouse as a restaurant because of the noise level,
The food was excellent! I will be back for the chop salad!
Great looking restaurant and I wanted to like it, but based on the poor service and bland food, I just cannot say that I will ever be back to Rival House. I can't tell you how many guests entered the establishment without being greeted or shown where to sit. The management spent more time talking to the check-in staff at the neighboring hotel than inside her restaurant. The place was pretty dead, but wait staff was still very slow.
The pizzas are very good. The atmosphere is fun and different. The service, however, needs to pick up speed. It takes far too long to get drinks delivered from the time they are ordered.
We waited for 30 minutes to get drinks. They never brought us water.
There was an apparent disagreement about who was causing the delay (bartender or waiter) -- as customers I don't care just fix it, but the manager came over and explained the disagreement to us.
I don't usually find hotel restaurants to be noteworthy, but Rivalhouse was really good. Great food, great service, good beer collection, and the pizza was fantastic. We had a part of seven and tried four or five different kinds of pizza. All were very good. I'd definitely go back and go out of my way for it.
We were looking for a kid-friendly spot before a concert at the Xcel and wanted to be slightly away from the crowd but close enough to walk to the venue. Rival House was perfect. Our food was good, service excellent, the beer list well-curated, and the games fun for both kids and adults. We will bring our family here again and are glad to have found this place.
It was pretty terrible. Service was awful, our server was more concerned with taking cigarette breaks than serving the table. The food that did arrive (ordered appetizers were not delivered) was abysmal (Mac & Cheese and a cheeseburger). We were all thirsty most of the night. Overall this is easily the worst place I've been in a long time... And I was at McDonald's last week
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but the service was incredibly slow. We didn't get seated for over a half hour after our reservation and once we were seated the server was slow and forgetful. Overall, the customer service was poor at the hostess stand, the bar and the table. I would recommend Rival House if you can take your time and only want one or two drinks. It's a cool place to change it up, especially for St. Paul. I really wish the service was better. Been there three times and had the same experience each time.
