Riva Grill Ratings and Reviews
Great restaurant and ambiance, located right next to the lake and marina. Service was amazing as was the food. We started with Crab Stuffed Chili Relleno and for dinner, I had the Prime Rib with Mashed Potatoes and my wife had Filet Mignon with Shrimp and Mashed Potatoes. Flavors were amazing and the food was prepared perfect. For dessert the Mocha Crunch Ice Cream Cake will handle any sweet tooth! They also have outdoor seating and a nice bar and lounge area with live music in the evenings. Give this restaurant a go if you’re ever in the area. Oh, and don’t forget to try a Wet Woody! It’s a frozen cocktail that the area is known for.
We have eaten here 2 or 3 times over the last couple years, usually for special occasions. Previously we have been pleased with the service, quality of food, and ambiance, even though it is a bit pricey. This time, while the service was still above par, we found the restaurant to be quite noisy (they had installed several TVs). We ordered the prime rib, and it came too well done. Certainly not what we had come to expect from this restaurant. We may give it one more try, and if that is a repeat, will write this restaurant off our list.
Have been to this restaurant several times and on those visits we have been more that satisfied. This visit did not have the same result, this was mostly do to the waitress. She was standoffish and her demeanor cool. She only seemed interested in taking our order and then was no where to be seen. She never saw to making sure our meal was acceptable or that our water glasses were refilled. Were we to return and we were assigned to her station we would request to be reseated at an other station. The staff is an important part of any restaurant and this waitress did not represent Riva Grill at it's best.
Although I’ve been here in the past and loved it I’m sorry to say the quality has really gone down . Food especially was way off the mark had to send back the ribeye due to dirt taste in sauce . Kids Mac n cheese was not good either kids wouldn’t eat it. Also thought for a nice restaurant it was extreme tacky to have g-string underwear in the case at the front desk and as you walk in
We had a reservation for 6 and they showed us to a table for eight. They took away the two extra place settings while we stood there, but not the chairs. This is suppose to be a high end restaurant. Not what you would expect. We moved the chairs ourselves and rearranged the table to be comfortable for six people. We orders three of the night's special - Prime Rib, one had a pork chop and two of us split the Ahi Tuna. The tuna arrived perfectly . The other 4 meals were COLD, not warm, COLD. We sent them back. The Pork chop and two prime rib meals returned to the table. One of the Prime ribs was still COLD. We asked it to be returned again. The final prime rib meal and the one returned for the second time finally were returned to the table - hot this time, by the manager, who said NOTHING - no apology - no recognition this was unacceptable. The waiter offered to comp a couple desserts. The waiter did his best, he was great, but the attitude of the manager was really unacceptable. This meal was about $100 per person with wine, for 6 people - I would not expect the meal experience to be like this. I would not return because if I am going to spend that much for a meal I want to know it will be a good meal!
The server was very nice, but it was obvious that she was struggling to service 3 tables. Took 3 tries to deliver a seltzer water...the $40 ahi dish was less then good, side of mashed potatoes came out cold and on a 4 inch plate, looked very sloppy for the cost of the meal.
An "its it" ice cream sandwich that costs $1 at Raleys ended up on there dessert menu for $10 with the addition of hot fudge and whipped cream...
Restaurant is owned by a company with 4 restaurants around the Lake, USE YOUR IMAGINATION! that dessert was a joke!
Very nice lake Tahoe views from most tables and outside porch. Perfect subsets.
Not too noisy. Good background music.
Very good food.
Tens to be on the expensive side, but still affordable.
The only downside was that we reserved a table with a view, and the waitress tried to stick us with a very partial view one, but after we insisted, we got a very good table, and everything else was really great.
My boyfriend and I came for his birthday dinner. When I made my reservation I had asked for a window table if possible. Our reservation was at 5:30 and when we arrived we were rushed to a table immediately but not given a window seat although there was one open.
The food was good. They give you basic crunchy, thin, breadsticks but they come with a delicious hummus. I ordered the scallops over crab risotto which was delicious. My boyfriend ordered th seafood pasta which he thought was delicious as well. No complaints about the food. Our server was very nice and prompt, however I had put in the reservation we were celebrating a birthday and no birthday gesture was made at all. Not even a simple acknowledgment or wish of “happy Birthday”. I had wanted to make this dinner special but instead felt rushed and unappreciated. There was nothing genuine about the experience.
One of our favorite restaurants for any occasion in South shore. The atmosphere is unmatched with an outdoor, exceptional menu, and specialty rum drinks. Their dinner menu has a wide variety of options for many tastes. The service is above par and every effort is made for your dinning pleasure. Enjoy!
We were in Tahoe for our Anniversary and heard Rivas was a good place to eat. I will say overall had a nice dinner a little noisy. The only few complaints are, we were seated downstairs by the door leading to the outside area we were told by the hostess that no one would be going in and out due to being a very chilly night. There were several staff members going in and out for about the first 15 minutes we were seated as well as a few customers opening the door to look at and standing with the door open, at one point my husband asked that they close the door. The other complaint is it took 45 minutes after our appetizer to get our dinner. I would like to try lunch next time we are in Tahoe.
My husband and I chose Riva Grill for our dinner spot the last night of vacation in South Lake Tahoe. We had an inside table that overlooked the Lake and we enjoyed the sunset as we had our soup (Shrimp & Lobster Bisque - Delicious!) Our server was attentive, professional, and courteous. I had Scallops which were perfectly prepared and my husband had the Prime Rib special, which was equally delicious. Unfortunately we had no room to sample dessert. I read previous reviews and some were not very good...I was skeptical but wanted a waterfront location. The view and the food did not disappoint! I would highly recommend Riva Grill! Just know that their are TV's in the bar AS WELL AS the main dining areas!
Happening bar scene. Wait staff was on the ball. Drink menu is creative and cocktails were good. Prime rib dinner special was pricey and good, not great. Wife had Caesar with salmon added and it was okay. The dining room was so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think so I think we’ll skip dinner next time or just hang out and eat in the bar area.
We had a party of 10. Nice ambiance, and food was good. Waiter paid more attention to a smaller table next to us, and after waiting an hour for our food, it arrived luke warm. Manager offered only a 10% discount on our bill which was disappointing. 2nd time we've had a poor experience with the service here.
It was my friend's 50th birthday and we'd made a reservation that morning for 7:00pm, requesting a view table. We arrived on time and were seated promptly, but were lead to a table right next to the kitchen and as far from the view as one could get. We asked to be reloated, but were told it was the last table available in the restaurant other than the bar.
We agreed to move to the bar to a smallish table which at least had a view of the lake.
Our service person, Rebcca, was very attentive and fun.
The appetizers we ordered - ribs, poke stack and steamed clams - were mediocre at best, particularly considerig the price. The Ribeye steak, however, was generously portioned, cooked to the right temperature and quite good. The wines by the glass were also generously portioned.
The best part of the night was the acoustic musician and singer, Mic Smith, who played at the bar. He's super talented, plays lots of different music and has a sense of humor.
My daughter and I were looking for a nice dinner before heading back to Sacramento. We found Riva Grill through Open Table and booked a reservation. The food was great, the service was great and the view at sunset was fabulous. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice meal in Tahoe.
Our server Lindsey and the manager (Scott maybe?) were amazing. Food and drink took a long time, howerer we were in a very good mood so we didn't find the wait (45 minutes?). The pasta dish we had ordered was cold unfortunately, which was comp'd. Also, my brother had ordered an old fashioned and it was quite pitiful. It was comp'd as well. The bussers and wait staff were AMAZING. Refilling water, bussing tables, and replacing silverware were the highlights of their service which was complimented with a joyful, friendly, and welcoming attitude.
Biggest issue of the evening was the hostess. She was not welcoming at all even after we told her that we were there for my brother's bachelor party. I had received a phone call, voicemail, and confirmation regarding our reservation, and she could not find it. A gentlemen was training as a host, and it was his first day so we hold no animosity towards him; however, if he is being trained by this hostess, it should raise some concerns.
She was rude, non hospitable, no smile, and all around established a horrible first impression of this restaurant which was thankfully restored by our server Lindsey, Scott, and the rest of the team.
I would love to come back with another group of friends; but we would not want to see this hostess provide her "attempt" at service.
Appetizers were great but entrees were just okay.
We had the Beer Battered Coconut Prawns and the Dungeness Crab Cakes to start. Both were delicious and I would recommend them. I had the Seared Diver Scallops which comes with dungeness crab risotto. The risotto with this dish was more creamy/watery than perhaps it should have been but the scallops were good.
We were seated inside as the weather was bad but I imagine sitting on the patio on a nice day would be amazing. The restaurant appears to try to be upscale including the laughable mandatory valet parking but I think it's really a patio bar at its core. The mandatory valet parking made me laugh as there weren't many cars in the parking lot. It would have been quicker for me to walk 20 feet and get into my car rather than wait for one person to run back and forth.
Overall the food was okay but I wouldn't visit again unless it was to sit on the patio for a drink on a nice day.
Unfortunately, my friend and I had a terrible experience. I booked a reservation and we got seated right away. That was about the only thing that went well. It was clearly very busy but we made a reservation so I thought everything would be great. We order our food, a little pricey but still willing to give this place a chance. About 30 min go by without any food or our waitress letting us know that something is going on. At this point we are getting restless. I also notice that the couple seated right outside who were seated about 15 min later than us have gotten their bottle of wine and their meals. My friend and I looked at each other and decide we are just going to go ahead and leave. We shouldn't have had to wait an hour for anything at a restaurant, especially one that seemed to be so nice and fancy. We get a hold of our waitress and let her know we are leaving. She apologizes and says there are 2 different kitchens, which to me sounded like an excuse for forgetting our order. And if that were the case we should have been priority since we made a reservation. Sorry Riva Grill, you definitely were a big disappointment but at least we got a beautiful view of the water.
