Riva Grill Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been coming to the Riva Grill for many years. The food and atmosphere is always exceptional. I had the pork chop and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I had the best cocktail I’ve ever had. It was something like a Rum Runner with raspberries. Delicious!
Ken, our waiter, was friendly and efficient. He made us smile and feel welcome.
If you like dessert, you have to try the butterscotch creme brûlée. It was perfect!
I would want to rate this four star given the prices paid but just couldn't. Waiter was great but hostess didn't seem to understand that 6 people couldn't be seated at a table that seats four comfortably. Walked us upstairs then invited to me look for a table on the first floor. For what I paid for the steak, I would expect Prime grade. It was not. TV playing in main dining room hurts ambience. It was an auto auction. Drinks were very good. I would do drinks and appetizers on the patio on a warm day but doubt we would be back for dinner.
Being out-of-towner who appreciates good food and atmosphere Rivas came recommended by friend who hasn't led me wrong (so far) when visiting same towns. Thankful for the App we secured reservations and were seated upon arrival to the perfect place - in front of the fireplace with a lovely lakeside view. The service was timely and attentive enough; Found a nice wine from the more than adequate list. Had appetizer of the ribs (very tender, but a bit too saucy for my taste) although flavor was tasty. I had a cobb salad with a creamy balsamic vinergarett dressing and blackened chicken - Awesome! My daughter also had a salad with beef tenderloin (requested warmed) and she claimed it a 'winner'. Overall a beautiful experience here and will definitely plan to return.
Started with the clams appetizer which is so delicious, I could have had it for my main course! My entree was the scallops with crab risotto, it was rich and decadent just what you would expect from scallops and risotto. Our server was helpful with our drink orders, polite and attentive. Would definitely return!
I'm sure that all dining establishments are busy on New Year's Eve. However, we were also there for 2 of my friend's birthday, there were 6 of us. All the waiter did was gave my 2 friends a free dessert with no candle, we didn't even get to sing "Happy Birthday." There was another waiter just a table way who brought out a dessert with candle and sang Happy Birthday. All our waiter could do is keep telling us that the dessert was on him, which he did about 4 times. One person in our party had a horrible risotto. The rice was still hard. They did take it back but it took quite awhile to get someone's attention which was not the waiter. Not sure I would ever go here for any special occasion.
Our food server was lovely and made our New Year’s Eve experience awesome. Family of 3 - husband had filet, I had sea bass with orzo, daughter had sliders. The food was just OK. The sea bass was thick and not cooked all the way to my liking, orzo was “busy” - too much going on. But the experience was great and we were very happy with the service and the location of our table.
Not worth the $ and the service was pretty bad. This is the first review I am leaving on open table but felt like I had to. We had to ask he server several times to normal things making everything take much longer. The mains were very expensive for what you get in terms of quality. The Caesar salad was a very small dish for $13. I go to a lot of nice restaurants and this was just not worth it. Also I asked for the elevator for my mom and we had to walk through the service area and outside! They should have told me before I agreed to sitting upstairs. Never going back.
We were there for Christmas eve dinner, so it was very busy, that was not a problem we expected that. I ordered the dungeness crab risotto, the risotto was white an very gummy, 2 of my scallops were raw in the middle . For the price we paid it was very low quality food.
This is a special occasion meal! Our family wandered in with a recently made reservation and we were so happy that we did! Amazing service, Superb food, great options for fish, chicken and meat. Our server, Brian, was so friendly and helpful with tips for our stay. The view of Lake Tahoe is breathtaking. This place deserves a #1 rank in South Lake Tahoe!
Perfect location to enjoy tasty variety of fare. Food and drink are not inexpensive, but considering location and view, definitely worth the splurge. Have been several times and service unfortunately is not consistent, which is too bad.
Don't forget to take advantage of Wet Woody Wednesday!
Riva Grill is a beautiful space in a nice setting on the edge of Lake Tahoe. The menu has many interesting choices and the food and presentation is generally quite good. However, we went with a party of six on a holiday, and the place was clearly overbooked. The waits for everything were interminable. The restaurant is clearly incapable of handling a capacity crowd. Still, as we did not starve, and had a reservation, it was quite nice, and I will try it again at a quieter time. Riva makes no concessions to holiday fare, so those in the party hoping to get a slice of turkey were disappointed. Our waiter, though rarely seen, was also very friendly when he did show up.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner. The location is perfect, esp. the outdoor seating with a good view of Lake Tahoe. However, that is where the good thing about this place stops.
The reception person was rude. The food was mediocre. The Turkey was dry, whereas the ham had no honey glaze and the thickest slice was twice as thick as the thinnest one of the three pieces of the ham. The apple pie toppings were a mess, and the pumpkin pie had no pumpkin taste except sugar. Moreover, we waited about 30 min. after the appetizer finished before the entree was served.
We loved our dinner and our server was outstanding. I was a little disappointed in our table. We were seated upstairs along the railing of the stairs. We sat there last year and it’s a little busy. When they called to confirm our reservation I asked to be seated anywhere but there. Well, they sat us there anyway. We didn’t say anything, but our reservation was early and there were lots of other tables with a better view for both of us. Many of thise tables were still empty when we left. My suggestion is to make a few spots with a nice view available for parties of two. We will go back as the food was great. Just maybe not with the intention of both of us enjoying the view.
Service was good but even though I made reservations about 3 months in advance, they sat us at a table that had no view. We moved one table over that had the same amount of seats and got a view of the lake.
The occasion was Thanksgiving Dinner. The turkey was dry and they ran out of pineapple glaze for the ham even though our reservation was at 4:00. Otherwise, the food was good.
We came here for Thanksgiving so we did anticipate some noise and activity. However, even though we had a reservation, we were given the choice of sitting in the sports lounge or outside (very cold). We had to argue with the hostess to let us sit at one of the tables for 2 upstairs - which, by the way were all vacant. On the plus side, we had the salmon and it was absolutely delicious and our waiter was very good.
