Rita's Kitchen at Camelback Inn, A J.W. Marriott Resort Ratings and Reviews
We had some service issues at our Saturday morning brunch both in getting seated (possibly our fault -- they got notice from Open Table that we had an earlier time than I thought we had booked) and with getting initial service -- we were accidentally (?) overlooked after waiting 30 minutes for the table, but the setting is beautiful and it is a lovely place to spend a nice weather day in Arizona. The menu is fine; the prices are high ($12 for mimosas $18 for average breakfast -- you are paying for the scenery and ambiance). If the prices don't bother you, it is a lovely and quiet spot for a morning with friends.
I love Rita’s when the weather is nice and you can eat outside. My only issue is with the noise level due to the outside music. For some reason the bass tones are always cranked up and people have to raise their voices to talk. Ask for a table far from the music and you should be fine.
It is a treat for a local to live large for a long lunch at Rita's Kitchen with superb dishes and friendly service by a staff that has remained constant. The Inn is graced in a lovely patina of comfortable wear, user friendly armosphere, and casual fun. Paradise Valley Council has sadly approved some out of place Mid Century Modern developments in the town. Rising out of this unique Camelback Inn setting is a rather talk square, modern ballroom, conference area which looks strangely out of place. It would be sad to see this destination resort for locals as well as all over the world visitors morph into some vastly different architecture and ruin the gem they have polished all these years. Our server Gigi knew just how we wanted to catch up at our lunch, invest in a glass of wine, and enjoy the avocado heaped with crab salad and a yummy side salad. Thee is always attention to the menu, the visitors and to your whole experience.
It was our 1st time at Rita's Kitchen and we were very pleased. The Chicken Enchilada Rojas $20 was not soggy or floating in cream/sauce coverup and filled with tender chicken. The slaw was delicious too. I had the Broiled Flank Steak $25 with farro, kale, mushrooms, crispy onions,
jalapeno chimichurri. It was so good I didn't save any to take home. The Flank was cooked just the way I asked and laid on the bed of farro which has a nutty taste. Matching that with the crispy onion straws, tender kale and some kind of Enoki white long stem Mushrooms added sweet, tangy and crunchy to the dish. Very nice...we will be back. TIP get there before 6 and order 1/2 price drinks (a $7 savings at least) and the guacamole during happy hour before sitting down to dinner.
We love coming here and usually have an amazing time. However, the service this time was terrible. We had to ask several times to just get lemons and straws for our waters. My husbands steak came over cooked, and although the manager came over and fixed it and brought out a new one everything went down hill from there. The service was slow, it took forever to refill water and when they brought dessert they brought not plates or fresh silverware- we were in a group and not going to eat with our hands. Overall, this just wasn’t the best experience I know Ritas is capable of.
Rita's Kitchen is a casual restaurant with a Southwest flavor. There are some common Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes along with steaks and seafood options. The tableside guacamole is excellent. Try to reserve a table on the patio where there's live music every evening. there's also an outdoor section for the bar with firepits during happy hour. Prices are moderate and the views at this historic resort are outstanding and picturesque.
Zero consideration for being vegetarian. I was told it would take 15 min to make vegetarian beans. Yeah. Hilarious and awful all at the same time-clueless. Clearly. For being AZ I ate huevos rancheros as well for breakfast-epic fail-tasted like marinara on eggs and overloaded with fake cheese.
Stopped in for brunch -on brunch menu was eggs Benedict but they were not out. Had to ask for them but they were happy to accommodate us and made them. Fruit was exceptional and prime rib was very good. Mimosas never ceased to flow and dessert selection was very good. We were there for a special occasion and they did a great job of bringing out a special dessert plate for the occasion. Overall, a very positive experience and good value for brunch.
I have eaten at Rita's Kitchen for the past 4 years. The service has always been good. The ambience is as good as it gets. Occasionally, un attentative parents will allow their chldren to ruin your date night but overall a good choice for special occasions. This trip however had a noticable difference. The fajitas were bad. Almost to the point of having a sour taste. We had taken friends that we hadn't seen in 40 years and it was embarrassing. Food has definitely gone downhill at dinner. Sunday brunch is still good.
Well, we tried one of our favorite stand bys this evening, but alas, we may not be returning.
Things have changed at Rita's, and not for the better. To begin with, there is no management per se, at least no-one who looked as if they could take care of a situation. Sorry, just some immature girl at the front check in restaurant desk.
We requested a certain table on OT, and sure enough, that table was occupied. And they were NOT that busy at all. There was also another couple at the check in stand and they were trying their best to set up a Father's Day gathering at a special table. The 'girl' stated that she would try, but she just could not promise anything.
Okay then, just take the reservations and remove the special requests section from the Open Table form. That way EVERYONE will be the same............Isn't that what everyone wants now?
We are so disappointed.
