About Ristorante Rumari
Ristorante Rumari (Italian for "Restaurant of the Sea") is one of the most popular restaurants in Laguna Beach. It is popular for three primary reasons. First because of its fine Italian soul food. Second because of its location, away from the traffic and congestion of downtown Laguna. This makes it especially popular with the local residents of Laguna as well as those who have been referred by a friend, business associate or concierge at one of Laguna's many boutique hotels. There is abundant street parking as well as a small free lot behind the restaurant. (If you have ever tried to find a parking space in downtown Laguna you will appreciate Rumaris' location) The third reason this restaurant is so popular, and some say the most important reason is the Crivello Family, Vincenzo and Massimo and their mother Bina and father Antonio. Rumari is truly a "Family Affair" and has been for more than 24 years!

Ristorante Rumari Ratings and Reviews
You know, the food itself was not actually bad in taste or quality but it was nothing special. There was no care for detail or presentation in the dark restaurant and different plates. It was also really filling. However, the building is very charming and it seems like a classic little romantic restaurant. Slightly overpriced, though.
My wife and I had wanted to try this restaurant for some time based on the reviews. The dishes seemed a bit outdated. Nothing really new or inspiring. However what we ordered was very well prepared. I ordered filet mignon and aside from being the smallest piece of meat I'd ever seen on a restaurant dinner plate it was very tender and flavorful. When making our reservation on OpenTable we had selected Special Occasion since we were celebrating or anniversary and also wrote it in the notes field. My wife mentioned it to the hostess as well. No one from the restaurant ever acknowledged our anniversary during our visit. Not a bad restaurant, but with so many great options in Laguna Beach we will unlikely go back.
I had put in the Open Table comments that we would like patio seating as we were bringing our small dog. The hostess had read the note and had a very nice out of the way table waiting for us upon arrival. Good service, good food. Our server made a very good wine recommendation. We will go back!
Italian restaurant with fairly pricey menu but, unfortunately, little or no ambiance. Bland setting, without even a tiny vase with a single flower. The food is ordinary and certainly its quality does not justify its price. The lemon veal scaloppini was OK at best, nothing to write home about. Although they knew that this was a special occasion, they did not offer even a small 50 cent-cookie with a candle.
Conclusions: I guess it may be OK for the summer crowd of visitors, but not for "Fine Dining" by locals. Disappointing choice for us.
A tried and true Laguna Beach restaurant that has continued to get better. Recipes are original and authentic, flavors and quality are outstanding. There is a warm and welcoming element to the service, extremely attentive and consistent. The restaurant added A/C a number of years back so it is comfortable year round. Old world charm in the main dining room makes it a good environment to meet friends for dinner or celebrate a special occasion.
We have eaten here many times & always enjoyed it. That night the food was a little off. We ordered the same dish we aways do, POTATO GNOCCHI with sausage & they charged us $7 more than what we have paid in the past & what their website menu shows. Even after bringing it up, the manager wouldn't honor it. Our waiter & the rest of the staff were awesome. Our waiter recommended at dish, LINGUINE NERE DEL MARE AL CARTOCCIO that was very good. My husbands tortellini dish was not the best & the side of veal meatballs were dried out that night.
Sadly not so great anymore, slightly biased as great historic connection and we normally get amazing services as pseudo regulars but waking up and smelling the coffee while it's consistent which is very good overall not that great.
The atmosphere can be amazing or a disaster, trending to later as more family parties tend to go there and becomes very loud and no fun for a quiet date conversation. But maybe coming in after 8.30pm would be better however very mixed cleintele, and not so good.
Menu is excellent and kitchen is always incredibly flexible to mix and match and food is in general amazing but you have to be precise about what you want.
Giovanni was our man and sadly we found out he has left so without his personal attention the experience diminishes and with crazy expensive prices we don't see going back other than if we run out of more reasonably priced restaurants in the area that can deliver decent food and service (which we know are limited)
A great local Italian restaurant - not the best, but better than average. Parking can be an issue - street parking only. But, the meters are free after 7PM. The food is genuine Italian. I tried the Carbonara - not the best, but still very good.
I thought the waiter was not up to par. He recommended one glass of wine over the other - even though he had not tasted either one. When I told hime I didn't like the wine he recommended, he brought over a taste of the other wine. I told him that the 2nd glass was much better. His response, "oh okay, good to know" and walked away. Not the response I expected.
Oh, and you get the 'cheap, Walmart-style wine glasses' for wine by the glass. They bring out the better wine glasses - if you order a bottle.
Overall the food here was ok. The server was nice, but not very helpful.
When asked about the different type of after dinner drinks, he said he did not know anything about them. It only later occurred to him to have someone else come and help us who was much more helpful.
