Ristorante Lo Stella Ratings and Reviews
Four friends met at Lo Stella for our annual dinner together. The intimate setting was perfect for getting reacquainted. We could actually hear each other talk. The menu is varied, the food was excellent, and the service was perfect. We may decide to hold our annual get-together here every year.
The house salad was large and reasonably priced but contained only lettuce and a couple tasteless tomatoes. Waiter did not give us any choice on the dressing. The dressing it came with seemed to be just oil. Fortunately there was balsamic vinegar on the table which I kept adding to give it flavor. I ordered the Veal Scallopini with Marsala sauce for I believe $26 - $28. The plate contained three reasonable size pieces of veal, a handful of lettuce with no dressing and my choice of side, sautéed mushrooms. The veal and mushrooms were somewhat tasty but it wasn't a very satisfying meal. The other side option was mashed potatoes. I wish the entree had also come with a vegetable and also that pasta had been a choice of sides. The waiter said pasta wasn't a choice as pasta is what the restaurant is known for and if I wanted pasta that's what I should order. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed so we rarely saw our waiter and had to flag him down to pay. The wines by the glass are limited but wines on the list are a good value. I doubt that I will go back but if I did I'd only go for the pasta however while I love pasta, all the pastas come with a red sauce and prefer other options.
We frequently dine at Lo Stella, and as always this visit did not disappoint.
It's has a nice, cozy atmosphere and is a great place to take friends. Location in the Golden Triangle and near the Denver Art Museum makes it convenient too. The service is wonderful, and staff knowledgeable and accommodating.
I love this place. My wife and I have been here three times in the past 12 months. We went this past weekend for her birthday with friends. A family business. We had Leo wait on us and one word - authentic. He recommends the best dishes and pairs with amazing wines. Their food is some of the best Italian in Denver. Can't recommend enough.
Family run (from Portofino, Italy).......outstanding service (especially the Daughter Virginia). She is not only a cutie pie.....but very sweet and takes the time to explain anything you want. Very attentive service. AND the food is amazing....especially anything with red sauce. Finally, the prices are VERY reasonable. Tremendous food and value!
This was the second time I've been to Lo Stella and the second time that they have been out of several of the items on the menu. I specifically went for the Pesto which I was informed they were out of. Ordered the walnut ravioli instead - very disappointing. My son and husband both had the Bolognese and were pleased with the dish.
I discovered lo Stella in the midst of a snow storm 3 years ago. It’s my favorite Italian and one of favorites overall in Denver. Great wine by the glass and good steaks and sides. Of course this owner comes from a family owned restaurant in portofono Italy that has over 150 years of history. Its location is convenient to downtown and has good street parking. Great for a special occasion or if u want to spoil yourself during a snow storm . 5 stars and kudos to the handsome owner and his staff.
Great food and good ambiance. My wife and I have eaten at Lo Stella 4 times and we have always been satisfied with the food and service. The waiter was very friendly and helpful in making suggestions from the menu. There is a nice selection of Italian wines on the menu. You can park on the street and the neighborhood is safe. We plan on returning again in the near future. If you go there, try the pesto or the bolognese. They are both great!
I always have a wonderful dining experience at LoStella. I love the food and the service is extraordinary. It retains the feel of a great neighborhood bistro, but is very convenient to the downtown and Golden Triangle area. It's my go-to place, espcially for out of town guests or a quiet dinner with a good friend.
I loved this restaurant! It was the first time we have been there and we plan to go back again! The only reason for the four stars is that I did not care for my meal (ravioli with a walnut sauce), but it was not because of the chefs...just not my cup of tea. I will try something different next time. However, my husband loved his Fruitti di Mare spaghetti.
We started with a Insalata caprese (Buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and basil). It was a bit disappointing. It is peak tomato season and it seemed the tomatoes were hot house sourced. Such a shame as they didn't add any flavor.
The rest of the dishes we had were lovely and I would get them again. The Tagliatelle della “Nonna Laura” (Homemade tagliatelle with my grandmother’s bolognese sauce) was perfect. I would go back and try other pasta dishes and pizza as well.
Impeccable service, first class treatment without the formal attire. Friendly and helpful. The tables are far enough apart that you don't feel like you are eating dinner with the people next to you. They went over & above to meet our food requests. This restaurant is our new best friend!
